What if Chris wanted to be your online friend? Like... sure, maybe it would be a somewhat of a one-sided friendship, but would you consider it? Alternatively, if he also came to you for help, would you help him?
yeah, I'd go for it, although it's pretty far fetched :b

It's supposed to be the last Calvin and Hobbes but it's a photoshop. One of my classmates posted it on my class's bulletin board back when I was in college and it was sitting there depressing the hell out of everyone for weeks afterwards.

It does it's job well.

Indeed, I'm listening to depressing emo music and wearing black clothes right now, all because of that comic.

What I find to be the most hilarious thing about that picture is how those poor girls couldn't even imagine how people will discuss it to great detail, to them it was just a snapshot of a pretty bad day in their lives, but to the rest of the world, its Christory.

in that picture and i bet during the entire ordeal they avoided looking at him directly

It must've been very awkward for them, having such a childish party with someone who is supposed to be their age.
I bet Barb did all the talking while Chris just sat there smiling and nodding, saying some random access humour every once in a while.

They must have felt a hell of a lot of pity for him.

Let's be honest, they were probably the only people he invited and they came out of a sense of pseudo-friendship and obligation. After all, Chris was their lunch buddy, right? Look at how they're sitting. All bunched up for protection. No room for Chris. They most likely were not surprised by the childish birthday party.

Basically Chris in a nutshell: he's surrounded by his toys and Pokeman while any females are circling the wagons for protection while playing nice. He was still the quirky autistic who played kiddie games and sat at lunch, not the creepy tomgirl he is today.

He wouldn't want to be my friend. He'd likely consider me a Window to Hell and even be grossed out even shaking my hand.

Good analysis, and it points out the cause of Chris's downfall. Back then he was satisfied in his conviction that he could get something if he wanted it. Then reality stepped in and showed him the flaws in his thinking, causing him to withdraw more and more.

he probably thought that after they had their fill of pizza and soda and red skelton all the while watching chris get showered with children's gifts they'd head back to his room for: [cwc]CWCRockin4Way.jpg[/cwc]

This was back in the day when sex wasn't something Chris cared too much about. Lucky them, or they'd have been harassed constantly.

I wouldn't be his friend.

And help for what? If it was to get revenge against Snyder, no. If it was to call 911 because he was having a heart attack? Yes.

Okay...yeah cause I thought I remembered the final C&H being where Calvin tells Hobbes, "Let's go exploring!" and they go off into the woods.

 Why?

I don't think he could stand to be my friend. I can't pretend to be interested in Skylanders and Sonic for long periods of time. I couldn't blindly say "Uh huh. Yup" as he complained about everyone else being at fault for some of his problems. Sooner or later I'd suggest he stop using social and dating sites entirely and just concentrate on finding new local places to hangout at that involve one of his interests. He'd probably say he'd think about it then go right back to the rant without skipping a beat.

Also I get the feeling that if Chris made a real friend Barb would quickly notice he was out more and tighten her grip on him.

Sure, I'd try to be his friend, but I doubt it would end well. Also, I'm in Ohio and he's in Virginia, so we couldn't hang out in real life.

I guess I could play him in vidya or Pokemon and let him beat me (I don't really like vidya and I've never played Pokemon). He'd like that for awhile. However, if we played long enough, I'd start to get better and would start beating him, which would sour our friendship.

I don't like anything he likes, and he's not interested in stuff I'm interested in, we don't have much in common, so we wouldn't have much to talk about. We wouldn't bond emotionally or intellectually, and it would be like having a friendship with a spoiled 8-year-old. I'm pretty patient and can get along with most people, but I know it just wouldn't work out.

I dunno. Bob seemed to feed the mythology that Chris was some sort of gaming prodigy.

Old people who didn't grow up with video games think anyone who can understand those new fangled electronic gaming contraptions must be some expert at them.

Same with old people who don't get the internet, or cell phones, or whatever. They have a tendency to assume anything they don't understand must be simple and easy to do.
