Video Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2013

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

I think this is the first chris-related thing that I can find absolutely no humor in. This is a legitimately distressing revelation.

I actually understand him not doing anything - i dont approve of it, but I understand it. He's kind of terrified of barb, she's always been this huge, domineering force in his life and it makes sense that a weak-willed coward like him might not be able to find the balls to stand up against her.

I really hope he's posting this so that people with the power to actually get something done do it. I wouldn't normally advocate people taking care of all of his problems, but this is way too far.

Barb and Chris are living in the "family room" now, because Barb's room got blocked.

The family room used to be Bob's pseudo-bedroom. There's something disturbing about that, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Because Barb seems to have chosen to plop her holey buttocks in a recliner in the same room where her husband spent his final months dying, even as she herself grows increasingly housebound, bug-eaten, and immobile, which gives all of this the tragic air of a slow-motion suicide attempt?

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

This is like a Category 2 hoarder house. Category 1, the worst, is where there are no pathways through the rubbish. Having said that, given how much worse it's got in the past year, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets to Category 1 within another year.

And as for the County, they've made it clear that they won't step in unless the conditions start posing a risk to the general public, which is unlikely simply because the house isn't very close to its neighbours.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

I feel like this is Chris somehow asking for help. I felt from watching this that he is clearly unhappy with the state of the house and upset that it's pouring into his room. Chris' room has always been a mess, but he at least had some sort of "order" to it. All the stuff that he had in there where shelved and on tables for display. He just didn't have enough room for it all which made it extremely cluttered. The rest of the house just looks like a tornado hit it. I feel Barb is the real problem here. I have a feeling Chris wants it cleaned up but isn't willing as its a HUGE job (and he's lazy but at this point its to much for 1 person) I feel like he also couldn't even if he truly wanted to because Barb would probably snap at him. Hoarders always get pissed when you touch their crap. I have a feeling Barb may have possibly not been home when he recorded this. He probably would have gotten in trouble if she caught him.

This is how I interpret the video.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Honestly, the interior of the house strikes me as looking both better and worse than I had thought. I don't see water damage, cracked walls or anything that suggests the house is damaged...yet. A very good thing, as this means that everything that's happened can be fixed. I also don't see the worst things that get thrown around as present--feces, rotting food or other means of quickly causing health issues.

On the other hand, that's perhaps 100 cubic meters of Hoard! A whole floor of the house is buried in stuff, and its clearly obvious Barb has gone completely off the deep end.

I have to wonder, though, what Chris could actually do about this:
-He can't get Greene County Involved; that's the failure with the first tour.
-Barb won't agree with getting rid of it.
-He probably lacks the stamina to do this quickly; heck, the sheer load of stuff this involves would probably take a team of laborers a whole day to do it. The sort of thing that you go to Home Depot and find laborers for--but Chris won't do that.
-Chris thinks lifting 11 pounds of Soda is tough.

Chris vs. Hoard would be a major challenge for Chris, the sort of major challenge that shouldn't be one for the average person and stands a good chance of beating him. If Barb either gave up on the Hoard or Chris gave up on being Barb's servant that challenge could play out. Since getting crushed in a pile of flammable garbage isn't fun, I'd like to see Chris win this one. It might even be one of his great life victories.

Chris already knows its a problem and knows how to work on it, now he seems willing to push the limits Borb established. Game on!

No surprise that the state of the house is worse now than it was when Bob was alive. Maybe he tried to impose some "law and order" around the house, but as others have said, the hoard was just too much for an old man.

I thought maybe Chris was trying to say that Bob got the builders to put in narrow hallways.

I figured maybe he was quoting a common complaint of Barb's ("Mr. C wanted narrow passageways") and throwing in his own retort ("buy he never wanted them this narrow!"). But who knows what he means I guess.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

what are the chances he didn't speak while in the living room because barb was in there asleep?

more depressing than disturbing. barb (who may have emotional issues of her own) is probably still mourning bob and never properly dealt with her grief leading her to live where he lived. this may also explain chris's recent pining for his father. we know he likes to parrot things his mother says and does and maybe she has been droning about the loss of bob leading chris to believe this is how he should act out and feel as well.

Are they not connected, like one big room?

Marvin's said that Barb doesn't get out much. Can he (or anyone in the know) confirm if Barb has now become like a crippled old lady that basically relies on Chris to do everything for her? Which leads to my next question.

We all know that Chris wants a woman to take him in and save him from his shitty living condition, but does he expect his sweetheat to be to also take in his mother and look after both of them, or does Chris plan to just leave Barb in that house, unable to go anywhere? I can't imagine that Barb would last long in a house that Chris has trouble navigating.

In another thread I think it was determined that the last time Barb probably left the house was for the court hearing thing back in July to tie up the ends of that whole mess and before that she had probably last left the house in 2012. Barb probably isn't crippled physically but mentally on the other hand she has some extreme issues, most likely paranoia and a really bad case of anxiety.

What about electrical bills? Some of the blocked rooms had lights on...

Compared to everything else this is a really minor note, but the picture quality for this video is far better anything we've ever seen. This tells me it's probably taken with one of his new iPhones instead of something like the PSEye or whatever he used the first house tour. We have a thread somewhere about color correcting his videos, but this one is distinctly lacking the piss-stain hue.
I've seen a few smartphone videos, and the quality is better than what was in this video. It looks more like he took this one with his 3DS (the quality matches up pretty well), unless he still has a working camera or two laying around.

Its undoubtedly a 3DS, it uses avi format for it's videos. Was this video edited or modified in way, I see H.264 (Perian).

To see the state of the Chandler household today. Bob would not be pleased with how the house is what with the yard and all. How much has changed since he put up that house tour video?

Perhaps the light switches in some of blocked rooms are located close to their doors, making it possible to turn it on and of without entering the room. But why turn it on in the first place? I'm wondering if the resident evil fridge is plugged in. Having it still running could be "justified" on account of not wanting whatever food products are in there to reach an even worse state of decay, thus further exacerbating the house's hygiene problem.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

Chris could likely start throwing stuff out quietly, slowly chipping at the hoard but he's too lazy to do that. If he is the one who shops then he's the one bringing more shit home for the hoard. I don't see how he can do any laundry so I'm guessing when clothes are too disgusting or too damaged to wear anymore, he just goes and buys more from the Goodwill and tosses aside the clothes he can't wear anymore.

He can do something about it and doesn't. This is Chris expecting someone else to save his ass. He could fill a trash bag a day of smaller stuff if he put effort into it, and professionals could come in to deal with the bigger things.

This video is just sad.

To add to that, Barb and Chris also spoon in there. An adult autistic child spooning with his manipulative, controlling mother in the same room her husband used to sleep in. I think that's what's really disturbing about it.

No, he really fucking can't this time. I keep seeing people saying, "Chris can do something about the mess!", but he can't. This is really one of the first times he's legitimately helpless about a situation. His mom is a psychopath and has threatened to kick him out of the house if he goes out without her permission or touches her stuff. Chris can't live on his own, he definitely can't live on the streets. He cannot start throwing junk out.

What's he going to do? Drive some of it to a city dump? Do you think he even knows that those exist? I had no idea until I helped my grandfather work on houses like 3 years ago. If he just throws it into a trash bin his mother would probably go looking through it before trash day and get pissed at him. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's happened before.

If he met a sweetheart before Barb died, I think it's very likely he would expect her to take care of his shitty selfish mother.

Wouldn't be the first time. He used to leave his PS3 on all day long too.

Well, beyond that, it's wrong to throw other people's belongings away without telling them. A person doesnt automatically forefit their rights because they engage in practices or habits that most people find distasteful.

Re: Chris is not too proud of the state of the house 12/11/2

It seems like most of their hoard isn't garbage or anything else perishable, or with the potential to become disgusting, right? It looks like clothes, books, other assorted things like that?
