Chris turns 40

Chris has been many things over the years, but one thing he hasn't been is "better". Unhappy Birthday, weirdo.
 
I think Chris might finally be grasping how much time he's been in jail.

He must know it's his birthday. Judging from his letters he keeps track of the date. He might have forgotten his arrest date and seen another August slip by thinking nothing of it, but he has to notice he's having a second birthday behind bars, and even he knows a whole year passes between birthdays

That's just how jail works in the US. Unless you get bailed out, you're held until trial, and his trial date keeps getting moved back because his lawyer keeps filing for continuances. It's not particularly unusual for people to be in jail for years awaiting trial.

That and Chris likely isn't aware of the whole 'speedy trial' thing if he really wanted to push for it, despite such letters as the one he sent to Spamton about the 'chant' about getting Chris 'home' ASAP.
 
Wasn't the charge said to come with only a years worth of jail time though? What's the point of keeping him locked up then, unless it's been upgraded or is worse than we thought...

That seems like the kind of thing they would have taught him at the hospital (for those who aren’t aware, a knowledgeable Kiwi said places like that sometimes prep inmates for assisting in their defense). Or something his lawyer would be obliged to tell him, adding, “Now, Ms. Chandler, I strongly advise you not to ask for a speedy trial. The chances of you going to prison are much higher if you do. Ms. Chandler? Get your finger out of your nose and pay attention. Do you understand?”

If I understand the law Kiwis correctly, his case was moved out of family court, so the one year is gone.

If I understand the law Kiwis correctly, his case was moved out of family court, so the one year is gone.

By "gone" do you mean that his potential sentence is higher or that his time in jail no longer counts as time served?
 
I think the fact that his birthday comes after Ash Wednedsay, one of the most religious days of the month of February, must have a special meaning. If anything, I think his family, or what is left of it during this time must be really religious to figure out what Chris’s fate will be like in the next few years.

Frankly, they only care so far as to if they'll have to worry about him being left to his own devices and not under supervised care. What family was willing to deal with him cut off all contact the moment they learned what he did with Barb and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if he was effectively persona non grata in full at this point.
