A lot of good theories floated out there, and the same thing happened near the end of the Len Shaner threadlock, people angrily wanting to know WHY he hadn't been thrown in jail yet.
When it was pointed out to them that he's still in the process of maybe going to jail, (we'd only reached his preliminary hearing) and it's not a sure thing he will go to jail, they STILL were angry, that he was somehow escaping justice because it wasn't happening to him quicker than it should under the legal system that everyone plays by... that's why it's called a SYSTEM.
I recall no fewer than three times that I answered a "Why hasn't his bail been revoked?!" poster by asking exactly WHAT he did that would legally justify it? They could never answer that. They seemed to think being an idiot meant you weren't entitled to societal protections.
There's a small but very vocal contingent who want cows to not just do amusing things and not just rage impotently, but get PUNISHED in ways far exceeding what's called for by an rational observer.
And that's probably why, they're too close to see that these aren't characters in a tv show, or a webcomic, these are real people, the police can't just beat them up... for the same reason they can't summarily beat YOU up. They can't throw you in jail for being annoying... they can't throw Chris in jail for being annoying... and those quick to say "But he's endangering life and limb" are, again, too close to the show to see how petty the "crimes" of both are.
I do think it's some shade of wanting someone inferior to them punished so they can feel better, same reason why people obsessively watch tv shows like Jerry Springer and Judge Judy, to bitter, unhappy people, watching others they feel superior to suffer misfortune is the only thing that brings them happiness..... I've known quite a few folks, some in my immediate family, that are that way, it's sad when you forget that this is a person, and there's a real difference between laughing at them for their fuckups, and hoping they KEEP fucking up for either continued amusement or, because you've built your worldview on this person always being below you, the fear that any move up the ladder is one putting them closer to YOU.
