Christopher Avellone v. Karissa Barrows, Kelly Bristol, Does 1-100. (2021) - Fallout, Star Wars and Dying Light 2 writer grows a spine

If you want to know why he settled, look no further than the $133,340 in attorney's fees Karissa was awarded when she prevailed in the California anti-slapp appeal. Dropping the Illinois lawsuit against her was a bargaining chip he had to reduce or eliminate those costs.
That might have been a factor, but not a sole determining one, otherwise he would have done so soon after refiling the lawsuit, not now. I think Karissa knows she's against the wall, Avellone knows he has some issues seeing this through, and they all decided to get what they want

What a plot twist, and I still remember writing my first thoughts on the matter when Avellone was giving off the vibe that he was in the wrong:
I fully agree, the thing is Avellone isn't fighting it whatsoever. Even worse he explicitly wrote on Twitter that he should be cancelled.

Everyone knows how damaging this allegation is, and without any form of defense he is allowing his legacy to forever be tainted as a date rapist. But if Chris isn't going to fight this then neither should us forum posters. It's just a waste of time then and Avellone will just have to deal with this stain that ended the career of one of the most influential writers in the medium of games.
I hope the guy is able to get back to writing games because his work speaks for itself, he has been one of the best writers in the industry.

Damn, 7 figures and retraction? Why bother settling, how much worse would a judgement have been?
There's no money. Defendants had pro bono attorneys and cried poor. The statement he got from them is not good either. It's something, but I thought he had a bad case to begin with, and it got even worse after he lost the anti-slapp, owed them $133,340 in attorney's fees, and then refiled outside the statute of limitations.

The statement that directly says that everything defamatory we wrote about them wasn't true is a pretty good statement.

As for the money, she has a job, right? He won't get that money today, but she'll be paying him off for a whiiiiile. This is a w for Chris, lets take it.

"We are passionate about the safety, security and agency of women, minorities, LGBTQIA+ persons, and every other community that has seen persecution in the video game industry. We believe Mr. Avellone shares a desire to protect and uplift those communities. We believe that he deserves a full return to the industry and support him in those endeavors.”
- Karissa Barrows, Kelly Rae Bristol

In order words: "I never thought faggots would rape MY face," sobs man who voted for Faggots Raping Faces and Children Party.

Great news to wake up to on a Saturday. This reminds me of quote from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas about how hippie culture ended, how you could see the high water mark of the wave where it finally broke and rolled back. I see that happening to cancel culture right now and it's a good feeling.

The author of this story has managed to get the statement with actual signatures:

If you're not going to trial, anything less than an on-camera retraction is a failure. Give the people something they can see and share. That's the only way this works. What he got was a bunch of bullshit written by a lawyer that they didn't even read.

The 7-figure settlement is a fantasy. These people are poor. They have no capacity to pay him and they won't have to because it isn't real. The lawyer who put that part in did a terrible job because it's not believable and worst of all, it's worded so poorly people are asking him to clarify if he paid them. Oops.

The parties resolved the matter and claims were dismissed with prejudice pursuant to a confidential settlement that provides for a seven-figure payment that includes the return of the attorney fee award entered against Mr. Avellone in California.

He won that case, tho....that's why Barrows appealed. And the appeal never found the district action to be frivolous either, merely suffering from jurisdictional issues.
Wait, so Barrows "return[ed] of the attorney fee award entered against Mr. Avellone in California" and retracted her statements, because...she won? That's a very weird victory.
Person who knows nothing about the settlement, or what Avellone allowed his lawyer to say, states for a fact that his lawyer is unethical. That is why people thing you are a retard, Kathryn, because of shit like this.

Because sharing that Forbes story, or the original source, is extremely hard...wait, no, that's actually easier.

I genuinly despise people like you. Any victory is a mistake to you. If God himself came down to earth to give you a handjob, and he bent the fucking reality to make it the best damn handjob you ever got, you'd still find something to complain about.

Barrows will be paying him for the rest of her life, and if he needs the cash now, he can sell that debt to someone else for slightly less in cash. The dude won, but you are more determined to see him lose than his enemies.
