Been mulling over his "pedo jokes" defense; the fundamental problem with the "it's just jokes" schtick is that he's trying to legitimize arguments about normalizing sympathy for pedophiles in the same breath. He's connecting the two (the jokes and his serious views) by using the jokes in reaction to people calling out his genuine stances, and by using criticism of his jokes as an opportunity to espouse his beliefs.
