Color wouldn't help it. It would make it worse. Manga looks great compared to this. Real mangaka are insanely talented and professional, even amateur mangaka have a better sense of black & white than this guy. Walking dead art was just simple, good enough nothing to complain about nothing astounding. I used to read the same artist's X-Files comics and it was the same deal. Just consistent art.

Beyond that I know the best drawn manga make the production of B&W a strength not a limitation. Berserk has some of the more insanely impressive illustrations made for commercial media. To color the baroque backgrounds and body horror without creator's (RIP) consent is vandalism. With that said I do think the fan colorized versions of Jojo do work in its favor especially after Araki turned it into a metrosexual fashion show.

Same thing i'm thinking. It's a cop out. The only resemblance to real manga is that it is in b&w, and american b&w comics aren't even this bad. By amateurs I mean just whatever retards are posting their comics for free on webtoon with no views. Those people have a better idea of what manga is. Often in the original jap magazines there are a few color pages mixed in that aren't reproduced that way in the collected version. You can see those thankfully on the pirate scan websites with fan translations doing current manga.

I believe all the comics projects the artist has worked on before where colored (I showed some examples in this post), so I assume the original plan was to have this colored as well. I don't know why they gave up on this, but I think Vito posted some test pages in color? The shading seems like a desperate attempt to make it work in black and white after the fact.

1. Vito went overbudget and had to cut costs (hiring a colorist) which yeah I can't fault him for pretty much doing any work beyond a 1-man project requires careful budgeting and even then shit can go sideways.

I went over this months back when the Superkiller script leaked, look at a pro comic book writer's script and you can easily visualize how each panel will look. You go back to Vito's script and it's all just a fucking mess, he put so little thought into what he was writing. Vito gave this guy a half assed script to draw and the artist returned with a half assed comic. Garbage in, garbage out.

ahh you're bringing me back, I'm the one who posted the script here but vito leaked it YEARS ago. 2022. I don't think I archived this here before and it deserves to be. This was a writer panel where he wasn't even the only suspected pedo. There is a whole LOLSUIT THREAD about these guys Preston Poulter and John Lamont. I recommend reading the OP. It involves cuck and pegging porn, loli art, comicsgate, defamation etc. Vito appeared AFTER this was all known. The script leaked from the visible google docs url on this show and some read it at that time and said it was shit. It wasn't til later I mentioned having it in a post that I was asked to re-post it here. If I knew it would become a big thing I would have documented this better then. I DO blame the artist for working with this guy and knowing who he associates with and his reputation. Obviously the creators are to blame for anything so far. It's not like the printer screwed up the art or something because this shit is never getting printed until decades go by and paper is scarce like the movie waterworld and we are hopefully not all drinking our own pee also like waterworld but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Eric July has a pseudo crowdfunding campaign but it's on his own website so he controls what you see. It's because these youtubers all do crowdfunding and it's what the audience knows I guess. Eric July does pre-orders, and there is a material difference, imo. Starting with ISOM 11, they had most of the work completely done before they took in a penny from customers. It wasn't "give us money and we'll promise to use that money to create something." The turnaround from opening first sales to first customers having their comic in hand was barely under a month. Maybe I'm being pedantic in this differentiation, but I respect that route far more instead.

I'm not a weeb, I'm just aware of the big iconic mangas that have been going on for decades. But I can look at a page from a new issue of One Piece and see that there's so much going on in each page. It's black and white (and admittedly I don't think I'd read One Piece) but I can see why it has a huge following.

I'm sure there's outliers to this in the Manga but from my experience Manga is really fast to read. Like I once read a whole Jojo's Bizarre Adventure arc in a weekend. Real fans of Berserk will read the entire series. With western comics you generally tend to read them slower and in exchange it should more detailed.

In my humble, semi-educated opinion if you're going to try and emulate manga then you have two options: you either go for quantity over quality in the style of serialised manga like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach etc where you physically can't make every page detailed because you need to produce 20 pages a week (even with assistants this is an insane ask) or you hire a literal autistic person capable of creating the kind of pages guys like Junji Ito and Kentaro Miura are famous for.

Despite having $100k and no actual deadline, Vedo and his band of incompetent retards attempted to split the baby and have produced something that is both aggressively generic to look at and intolerably boring to read. A baffling failure on all fronts.
