I loved the start of new Xen. It felt a little too contrived on the linear puzzling, having to activate all those leaves, but it worked. When it started getting a little weird was when I got to Interloper. The alien factory looks 10,000% better than it did in the original, but the whole... alien-ness of the place was lost. It just started looking like average sci-fi gobbledygook.

Still, that's a nitpick in comparison with having to play the OG Xen. The devs were working with total shit as their source material and they managed to carve out much better levels out of it. If only the difficulty gap between Normal and Hard (even pre-Xen) wasn't so ridiculous.

That’s probably down to keep it a bit consistent with Half-Life 2, which makes sense considering how the Nilanth(if that’s the name of the boss) wanted to protect his world from the Combine and was keen to make it low-key as possible
 
Civ? He's my current favorite gaming talking head. Similar experiences back in the day. Relatable on a level that only Spoony did back before he became...whatever the fuck he is now.

Thanks to him, I got into Dusk and Nightmare Reaper, both did not disappoint.

Honestly, he has that really sharp sense of wit that not many other e-celeb has, with the probable exception of Jolly Wangcore, who's in a similar niche except for shitty Source-derived mods and maps.

Really, these two are the only one I actually watch for the personality, not for the game.

Wolf3D isn't that bad compared to the SoD "Lost episodes" (made by a third party)
Its two expansion packs that are some of the most repetitive and bullshitted filled things I have seen. The bosses across the two are the fucking same, and IIRC there is at at minimum 1 map (If not more) where its just wall humping because its just all secret walls.

I didn’t care much for the Wolf3d episode. When you’ve covered RotT, and all of the other contemporaries, what else is there to say? Glad he actually talked about the Aardwolf bit though, think he made a callback to it in the RotT episode. I think his best episodes are when he’s shitting on jank developed in shitty countries.

That being said, I vividly recall walking into the local CompUSA and seeing a huge standee advertising a game called Mortyr. I had my mom buy it for me, naturally, since only good releases got standees, right? I’d love to see him put the title through its paces. It’s one of the most boring, broken, and contrived pieces of shit I’ve ever played.

The Wolf3D episode felt more like a formality, to be honest. It's like he did it just to shut everybody up who's been calling for it, knowing full well the game is far too simple and repetitive to do a "pro-whatever" video on it. So now whenever people screech at him for Wolf3D, he can just point at that video.

I wonder if he'll get far enough along to do Return to Castle Wolfenstein, though. That game got really janky near the end, but I remember it being entertaining back in the day. Enemy Territory was also far more fun than it had any right to be.

I did like how Civvie being asked to play TNT becomes a pseudo running joke.

Honestly I want him to cover some of the more (in)famous Doom wads as well. Watching him suffer in Plutonia 2 or Hell Revealed 2 would be amazing.

Funny thing it's sequel, Mortyr 2 doesn't have much incommen with the 1st game. Sure it's graphics an AI is better and it has Nazi Wunderwaffles, but I don't think the plot was even remotely the same as the 1st game.
