After re-watching his videos on Shadow Warrior, I decided to give it myself a try and I think I managed to outclass the guy since I somehow beat two shadow ninjas with just a pair of SMG's and the riot shotgun.

Civvie is actually not as mediocre a player as he sometimes deprecates himself as being, but it also isn't TOO hard to outclass him. Though TBH the riot shotgun will fucking stack bodies like crazy in altfire. Very solid shotgun.

He seems to be relatively open about his quick saves/loads as well, F5 and F8 were cornerstones of boomer shooters. In Doom it was possible to quick save while dying so it sucked pressing the wrong key.

Yeah I wouldn't fault anyone for utilizing QS/QL, esp. in Doom II/Plutonia/etc., Romero threw some really heinous shit into II and Plutonia/TNT were downright brutal in spots with hitscanner traps, and Civvie doesn't fuck around - he'll play on manly difficulties like UV.

I would like to see him play Project IGI, that game was really good and also the worst, no save games so only level restarts with hit scan enemies that actually tracked the player through walls. Good game aside from that. Fuck Project IGI.

Don't forget MtPain27 who pistol starts shit like Ancient Aliens, Going Down, Scythe, and Alien Vendetta on Ultra-Violence. Granted he's probably not as good as either of those two since he still uses saves, but it's interesting how insanely skilled Doom YouTubers can get.

I just discovered him the other day and have been binge watching him. He has a good combo of actually being good at the games, gets the terminology right, the context of when the game was released, etc, and it's all wrapped up in well polished videos.

I've come across plenty of people over the years who think they can do what he does but it's never quite been right. People like TotalBiscuit talking authoritatively about stuff but making endless mistakes because they weren't involved in the modding/multiplayer scene. Or guys in the modding scene who think they can make blog posts and videos about the history of the game but are so boring.

Watching him Rambo through Thief with the blackjack makes me think I was much worse at that game then I thought.

Seems to be most shooters these days, stuff like Anthem and Destiny just look like epilepsy simulators. Might be just me but I've never been a fan of procedurally generated content, it just seems like a way to get out of having to design and balance your game.
