Code Vein

Aw crap. I just got their on my playthrough. Though I’m feeling overleveled (lv. 39) so hopefully it’ll go well

It doesn't help that the layout of the stage itself is a puzzle box without any visual cues to tell you where to go. Going the obvious route will just take you in circles. The trick is to always check the edges of round towers for ledges to drop onto.

If you are helping people out on multiplayer, this is like the top, uh... two or three locations out of all to be summoned in. I've helped out so many times, I can remember the map like the back of my hand. As for number one, you'll know it when you get there.

On a different topic, I was playing around with my Bayonet build because I hadn't actually seen for myself what the recent patch did for the gun-specific skill, Fusillade Rondo. It cost 7 ichor to produce mediocre results before the change, so I was very pleased to see that a single cast can now easily clear 14k damage on the practice dummy - casting all the relevant temporary buffs got it to reach nearly 30k.

I would take it to the field, but I don't trust summoners enough to let go of my Deliverance character just yet.

Just how bad was the nerf to barrage spells?
According to number crunchers on Reddit, it was a 40% reduction to damage. A very hefty nerf, indeed.

Speaking of which, one of the posters had uploaded concept art for the game about a month ago. The latter link in particular contains pictures taken from what I assume was an expo.

even in concept art, the Invading Executioner was always intended to be moist...

Nice pics, kinda curious how you can take good screenshots like this while playing the game, souls-likes require stupid amounts of concentration. Anyway, I think I'm about to finish off a sidequest, I completed yet another level of the depths and I beat the Ashen Cavern, the City of Falling Flame is next. There's just something about this game, you know? It's not the best souls game out there, but it has a heart, like it was designed by people who care about what they're doing.

Oddly enough, I didn’t have that much of a problem with The Cathedral. Though if I didn’t know to look down all the time it’d probably have taken a lot longer

A lot of people didn't, which is why you would hear horror stories about how players (me included) have spent literal hours trying to escape.

My screenshots aren't too difficult to pull off if you have the patience. For one, Photo Mode allows you to bind it to one of your keys for quick access (mine was the left button on the PS4 D-pad), and it's responsive enough that you can spam/exit it in the middle of an animation until you get the best frame possible. And because it pauses all action until you exit, you have basically given yourself a makeshift pause button. For a souls-like game. You can't exactly dodge-cancel out of your moves except during the Halberd's weapon skill anyway, so it's surprisingly easy to shift gears and get yourself back in action by the time the animation ends.

Another thing to note is that unlike Dark Soul's deliberately awkward swing animations (to highlight how you're just a schlub up against monsters and literal gods), Code Vein spends a lot of time and effort towards making your character all flash and all style, just like your typical battle anime trash. The combat skills are obvious choices for when you want a cool shot, but common actions have quite a bit of flair on their own. For example, doing a backstep with Quick Mobility will already have you looking like this:

Even basic attack animations can look photogenic with the exaggerated movements and poses:

Incidentally, a stylish game like Bloodborne could also benefit greatly from a Photo Mode to capture its beautiful movesets.

Capturing battle scenes require constant repetition and dicking around though. Most of the times I just repeat a single action on an enemy while mashing the key for Photo Mode until I'm satisfied with the end results. Otherwise, they are happy accidents like this one I took at the spur of the moment:

I can respect a team where staff members clearly had one hand preoccupied while working.

I finally picked the game up, enjoying it but I’m still really early on. Any tips for the moth boss?

also, there is a “strike” attack where the snake head part will face you and rush you doing a lot of damage: dodge toward the boss here. If you dodge back it’ll still hit you, same with side dishes as the hit box is huge.
Bring things to cure poison and add poison resistance (as someone else said they gifts or items bought from coco)
The slut hates fire, so any spell/buff whatever that has fire is good
A character that can keep their distance has a better chance
She can be stunned fairly easily with a big 2 handed sword hit

good luck!

I beat her a while ago, but thanks.

DLC is meant to be coming 'early' this year, hoping we hear something soon, whats everybody hoping/excited for?

More gestures, more hairstyles. Too much support for ponytails, need more love for bangs and voluminous hair.

As for the actual game content, I know we will be getting new bosses that are basically flagship God Eater Aragami, though players of that series say the boss icons for them is different from the expected designs. Maybe their appearances will be adjusted to mesh with the setting. Dataminers have already found some code strings that aren't expressed in the game proper, though it's not certain which will end up being part of the DLC.

I also hear rumblings of PVP support. Now that will be a hot mess if it actually comes to fruition.

I'll have to finish my first playthrough before I can effectively answer this question, but Pinot Pierrot's post seems interesting to me. I hope if they implement PVP content they don't make it so you can invade and fuck with other people's games. That honestly doesn't feel like it would fit in with this game's content or overall theme.

Currently working my way through the Burning City area, the place is frustrating as fuck, I think I may have found this game's equivalent of Blighttown.
The map is dense but small, so you won’t have to deal with it for long if you know where to go.

The trip is a lot easier if you’ve acquired the Survivor Blood Code from the previous level; it contains a passive gift that allows you to gain a pinch of HP for every enemy you kill. Very handy for recovering all that tick damage, to the point where I suspect the devs put it there on purpose.

I guess it's because I don't watch any fantasy/vampire anime, but past the character models I never got the feeling of "OMG IT'S LITERALLY ANIME THE GAME".

Took me way too long to get the timings and stamina management down (only From games I've played were Armored Core and Sekiro, and apparently timing a deflect just gets you killed). Playing a Zweihander/Atlus build and it's very forgiving on blocking. Just got past Cathedral and I'm thinking the developers didn't think people would take that long to beat it, because now I feel completely overlevelled (55) just from repeatedly going through sections because I was lost the whole time.

I'm just excited I got something to work perfectly on Linux.

Just got done with the City of Falling Flame and the plot bombardment continues unabated. This is a pretty fun game, although I'm going to have to take a break from progressing forward in order to grind up some of my bloodcodes and the associated gifts.
