I read about this earlier today. What she did is unforgivable and stupid, but I can't help but feel some pity for her. Like people have already said, this whole event could have been avoided if her parents had sought professional help. It's the combination of shitty parenting and letting a 14 year old autist have a tumblr account: a website where being mentally ill is idealized and trendy. I've never fully agreed with supervising a teenager's internet activity ALL the time, but if your kid has autism for fuck's sake, at least have an idea of what they're posting online.

For some reason, I don't think she has Autism, or at least, autism without a mix of something else. I'm thinking she has a conduct disorder or something. I don't think autism alone can produce this

I read about this earlier today. What she did is unforgivable and stupid, but I can't help but feel some pity for her. She's been online since at least the age of 10, posting about wanting to stab people or kill them to make them listen to her. And if her writing is to be believed, she was under the care of a mental health team and even briefly institutionalized. It seems like her mom, at least, was trying to help her.

Parents of mentally ill children who are violent typically find it difficult to access the resources they need. This girl was constantly talking about stabbing people. If her mom had perceived this particular incident to be a sufficiently credible threat and called the cops on her, there are a very limited number of facilities prepared to handle violent kids at short notice. There's a good chance the girl would've ended up in a locked adult ward, at high risk of being victimized herself. It's a horrible choice for a parent to make.

I do wonder why her mom didn't take the internet away. If guardians aren't on the same page about this stuff, enforcing rules becomes a nightmare. It's not clear where her dad fits into the picture, if at all.

A lot of older people have no idea about the Internet and to be honest if I didn't know she had tried to kill people it'd be easy to see her as another edgy teen going through a phase.

I had no idea. That they can medicate someone to sanity long enough to execute them is horrific.

It's not a trial otherwise. I think they should have a glimpse of sanity before their death. Maybe just then they might have human emotions to the point of feeling regret. They deserve nothing less because trying a crazy person without medicating them isn't exactly due process.

Killing a mentally ill person for acting crazy and violent in a country where we have removed the resources needed to protect normal people from crazy and violent people, and to try and treat them so they're not crazy and violent, isn't right. If you have to kill someone to get treatment so you can be sane enough to be killed by the state just shows how fucked the system is.

I'm not sure just how in control of herself she was. Her 2Edgy posts may have been an attempt to attract the attention of someone who would stop her before she snapped. We don't know what illnesses she ACTUALLY has besides self DXed 'Tism. If she was fully in her right mind, then yeah, she's pretty evil, even if she's 14. But maybe she was too young to overcome the control of some serious illness.
Also, I may have missed this, but do we know if her motivation was anything beyond being grimdark? I think there has to be something else, because if that was all that was on her mind, even she would know sweet Tumblr popularity points aren't worth prison.

There obviously has to be something more than "2edgy4u" that made her go on a stabbing spree in the middle of her damn school. Remember the Slenderman stabbing? There was a whole lot more than creepypasta-based autism at work there.

I know it seems weird that I would find being edgy a possible motive, but if there's one thing I've learned in life, some people have no limits in their thought process. That's of course extremely unlikely and I don't actually believe it in this case, but I think that it's possible for it to happen.
