Anyone remember RAW Magazine? That's where Maus came from, but there was a lot of other fun stuff in there.

I guess I always feel like the sort of comics I'm into are not the ones that anyone would think about, or even care to read since they're not "edgy" enough. These were simple stories that could be enjoyed by anyone and they sold nearly in the millions.

As this website says, comics sold more when they were more stupid...

I have several issues of Weirdo, R. Crumb's magazine. There's some interesting stuff by Crumb in there (such as his take on the Grimms' "Mother Hulda") and some other cartoonists that I've forgotten... Bob Armstrong, definitely, and maybe Kim Deitch or even Spiegelman.

I see Dave Merrill has touched you as well! I've known him since the end of the 90's (through anime). Everything he post there is the truth! Nobody is doing to do another "Legion of Dogs" comic as silly as that.

I've been reading Stupid Comics for years. I hold it as a point of pride that I own a copy of the issue of Archie where he goes back to the Gay Nineties and learns how much better it was. As well as something where Jimmy Olsen becomes a hippie that that site hasn't touched and really oughta. I still haven't found a copy of Morning Glory the Sex-Powered Faerie, though.

I love the little frowny faces on the bread when the ugly sister refuses to help them.

EDIT: I used to read the Grimm Fairy Tales comics from Zenescope. Despite the overly cheesecake overs, it had a neat concept of an immortal woman with a magical storybook that would have people "live though" old fairy tales with odd twists related to their situations. Some people would listen while others didn't and they all lived with the consequences.

Since I was behind on the comic, it eventually moved in a new direction, doing away with the magical stories and lessons in favor of the main character eventually teaching teens with mystical heritage to harness their powers (which aren't story book related) at an estate. I understood that they couldn't stay with the storyteller aspect, but sometimes going too far in a different direction can kill interest. Especially when the new turn isn't that original.

After reading those links, I'd like a collected edition of it, too.

You'll have to go out and find copies of the comics themselves... that's about as good as it'll get for the moment. I have 3 out of the 4 issues released.

Here's some more scans and info about the comics.

(I know the guy who drew and wrote these, but I've never bothered him about getting this stuff rereleased. All in due time, I suppose.)

I love that site and how it takes a look into the weirder side of comics. Especially those from the 80s/90s.
The period when drug stores were just starting to fade way into the abyss from big box mammoths and the indie scene was in full force thanks to some turtles (and anime).

Also love his "Found Sound" page too, not sure if he's been updating it lately, but i was quite a great collection of ripped vinyl and other things he found along the way.

I still miss the era of stupid kiddie records like this!

Peter Pan Records always had the best (especially when George Peed got to do the cover art).

There's a whole wide world of culture out there nobody knows about, but thankfully, on the Internet you can find info on just about anything.

Less effort for me sperging about the garage sales, record shows, flea markets and thrift shops I've been through for the past quarter century. You now see what I'm talking about!

P.S. Now I wonder if Bob had any Rusty Warren LP's in his stash?

Who's Bob?

I've done enough of that to know that in the end, it's worthwhile. I actually refuse to use eBay to find stuff I want because searching in the wild is much more fun, and you never know what you'll find.

Hope you were joking here. Of course I meant Chris' dad and his record collection.

True, for me eBay is a last resort.

There are way too many Bobs in the world. If there were any Rusty Warren or even Ruth Wallis LPs in his collection I'd be surprised. (Then again, who doesn't enjoy "He's Got the Cutest Little Dinghy in the Navy"?)

I guess I like to hear Chris say "knockers" to describe his moobs!

After its hiatus, Starve is finally back it's just as good as ever. Being a fan of cooking competition shows, this dark future story has an appeal to me. Also the art and monochromatic coloring style has a very unique look.
