Over the past two years or so, I've been slowly but surely getting back into comics. There was a time when I used to read everything but I kinda stopped in 2011 or so. I haven't read any superhero stuff since then and I'm not really looking to start, but out of all the ongoing comics at the moment, my favorites are: Southern Bastards, The Goddamned, Injection, Trees, Nailbiter, Manifest Destiny, Darth Vader, Spread, and...that's about it. If you're looking for any good non-superhero books and haven't heard of any of these, they're all a strong recommend from me.

I'm also 4 years behind on IDW Transformers, though I do intend to get caught up. Eventually.

I recently got the complete hardcover collection of Evan Dorkin's The Eltingville Club, read it all, and was pretty satisfied.
It has a treasure trove of pop culture references, great art and humor, and the main characters are practically lolcows themselves.

I also have been following Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon for the past five years. Can't recommend that one enough to fans of super heroes.

Elingtonville was damn funny. And they became even bigger lolcows when they got older.

Oh I need to get this! Read them in "Dork" years back!

I've been reading a lot of silver age stuff recently. Mostly stuff like Thor and Batman.

I'd like to present to you DC Comics grim and gritty reboot of Wacky Races (Wacky Race Land). Here's the synopsis...

"A time of hope and innocence with Utopia at the finish line has given way to planetary Armageddon and a desert wasteland full of radioactive lakes, nanotech dust storms, and cannibalistic mutants. Against this backdrop, the Wacky Racers and their sentient vehicles continue their contest, but now the competition is for survival, and there can only be one winner when the checkered flag falls."

The one hope is that they play it like a parody of grim and gritty reboots, but I'm feeling cynical.

Muttley seems to have changed...

I'd love to see a post-apocalyptic take on Wacky Races that keeps the show's original, jokey tone, thus making it even funnier.

Ow the edge.

Good to see DC is trying to to be "Gritty" and "Mature".

On the plus side they have a crossover book with the HB characters which genreally seems to keep the tone of the old series.

Also the Flintstones book looks kind of cool.

I'd heard it has Jonny Quest meeting up with Space Ghost, the Herculoids, Birdman, all the old H-B action heroes.

Now, the question is, if they use Brak in this series will he be the competent Brak of the original show or the moronic Brak we all know and love?

Or at least make a good Deviantart project.

I'm not a Johnny Quest fan, but the series having all these crossovers sounds great. And I have hope for The Flintstones one. The Scooby-Doo one is kind of a mixed bag for me. Mystery Inc and Zombie Island proved you could make more complex and slightly darker stories with the characters. If it keeps to the kookey spirit of the show, it could be pretty good.

I wouldn't be surprise if Dastardly either maims or rapes someone.DC has to do something "Edgy" with the characters.
If they can rape and then murder Sue Dibney while she was pregnant and use Lian Harper (a little girl) as a shock death just so her dad (Arsenal) can become a junkie again, I wouldn't put it above them to have Dick brutally murder someone.

I have a place in my heart for the simple charm of Wacky Races so this made me groan although I had some fun trying to guess which character is which.

From upper left to right: Red Max, that's either Lazy Luke or Rufus Roughcut (he does look too young to be the former), Pat Pending (who looks the closest to spirit of the original show), the Gruesome Twosome, either the woman is Sgt. Blast or the old man bellow her is, Slag Brothers, Penelope Pitstop (why does she look like a latex fetish model), Dick Dastardly and Muttley, Anthill Mob (they better still be little people) and Peter Perfect (could they have at least put him in his original colors).

There's also supposed to be a Jetsons one, but there's no details on that. Granted, there were two episodes of the show that struck a bit of a sour note with me.

I wouldn't put it paste them either.I'm sure that they would do something like that to make them seem "Mature".And i think if their is a Jetson one then Rosie will decapitate George Jetson and have Jane watch her kill her whole family.

If they had made it like Wacky Races meets Death Race 2000 I'd be happy.

They'd better include the Hooded Claw, though. And maybe Klunk and Zilly.

Usually I rarely read comic strips, but I've just discovered Viz comics, and it's really up my alley. Reminds me a lot of the work of MAD magazine veterans like Sergio Aragones, Don Martin, Tom Bunk or Al Jaffee.
