On a similar note, there are several content creators that also roast the Critical Drinker and reach 6 figure views on YT for their troubles. Zack barely makes 1k on good days, ergo, even at this chosen niche topic he sucks.

Going on on a tangent for lawfags here but I remember that when Meyer first launched the Expendables go to Hell campaign, he claimed that the opportunity arose right after he and Chuck Dixon failed to secure the license rights to do a John Carter of Mars comic book. Considering that Rice Burroughs' first John Carter tale came out in 1911 wouldn't that make the character public domain by 2018 (i.e. right before the Expendables campaign)?

The edgar rice burroughs estate is rather notoriously litigious. Just because something is in the public domain doesn't mean the entity behind it isn't going to leave you alone if you publish something that they think belongs to them. They are also often willing to bring frivolous legal actions one after the other against people to make publishing their stuff without permission prohibitively expensive. There is also often a trademark minefield set up around these properties.

Older, kind of worn out looking but still whoring herself on the sidelines of Comicsgate. She still has guys like Jon Malin and Shane Davis thirsty for her. She did a livestream with a bunch of her CG simps about a week ago.


She semi-regularly makes her simp comic product for her simps.

She should have been driven off and forgotten a long time ago. But the ratty old men in CG need her because she is all they have. Even if her shelf-life is well past expired.

She hooked Dale pretty hard. That seems to be her only accomplishment out of this. Looks like the middle aged frump stage has arrived too, so I wouldn't think she has more than a year before she's gonna need to stage another Keown intervention on stream.

Also, and I could be wrong about this, but wouldn't only the stuff from the first book be public domain?

For example, Steamboat Willie is now Public Domain, but Mickey Mouse isn't. I think Batman will go into Public Domain before Gotham City will. Its possible that whatever plot Zaq had in mind for John Carter would have run afoul of the copyright for the later installments of the series.

The first 13 novels are now in the public domain. Everything prior to 1930.

The first seven John Carter novels are in the public domain. But the tricky thing about novels being in the public domain is that sometimes the usual visual representation of the characters is not. You are correct about different elements of Batman coming into the public domain at different times. And you could only use the appearance of the character as it was in the stories that are currently in the public domain. So you can use the look of batman in his first appearance and nothing else.

And the name "batman" is protected by trademarks. So are sometimes aspects of the costume a superhero might wear.

But I still think Richard's problem with doing John Carter was that a lawsuit from the author's estate was 100% certain.
