God, I want this to be the catalyst for another video game industry crash so fucking badly.
I know it never will and its laughable to even consider but let me dream goddamnit.
 
I've worked in video games and I know some people who worked on this project from before it was sold to Sony. Stuff like the article and the atmosphere at the studio were the usual Grummz level overexaggerated chicanery. But it's definitely has a base to work off.

The studio is in a coastal city area so it obviously leans the way you'd think. What's a shame with this one is that from a technical standpoint this is/was a well done release actually. No major bugs, issues along the lines of a CP77. All of this games failures can be 100% without question be pinned to Design and Production. This is so big a failure that its effects in the industry, though they won't be felt for a while are going to be chilling. I can't say that it's not deserved though.

Ahh, so you're someone savvy to the fact that ESG has been on the way out since late 2022 in actual business circles, and DEI's been getting slid out since mid-late 2023 once it became apparent that the rates were going to stay high, eh? Yeah, it's hard to afford luxury bullshit when you don't have infinite, free debt anymore.

But that's just not right. Stop getting news about business from insiders and analysts - start getting it from fat guys who get mad on the internet to make a living.
And remember: the more divorces they have under their belt, the better. If it turns out they get busted for coke and child abuse, you know their insight was razor-sharp.

Granted, we'll still see projects that were greenlit back in those glory days of near-zero interest (in 2016, it was starting to trend up, but still <1%) just barely squeaking past the finish-line, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see some more cancellations to come. What's really remarkable about Concord is just how huge of a loss it's turned out to be - and I was already shocked that Sega came to the (prescient) decision to shutter something they'd already dumped, iirc, ~100M into.

It's not even about tits or ass. Just think about the design itself. I knowa bit about design, so I'll elaborate below.

1 - They chose the blandest pallette color for the character.
2 - There's nothing interesting about it. It can be sumed up as "spacer with rocket launcher".
3 - It has nothing designating their class, other than the weapon. TF2 figured this out decades ago. The explosive guy has explosives on his belt, plus injuries from the natural colateral damage from explosives with the eyepatch. The devil is always on the details.
4 - Samus's space suit is iconic due to it's color pallette, design, gadgets and abilities. This one has nothing, you can't even point out where there's a life support system or the place to store more rockets.
5 - Tits or ass don't really matter. Sure, you can have it. But you shouldn't rely on it as a crutch for character appeal or desgin. I have seen people thirst for old hags in suits because they have appealing designs.
Most of the other characters have the same primary problem. They rely far too much on their weapons. If you photoshopped the weapons from them you wouldn't be able to tell what they are supposed to be. You do that with TF2 characters and you can still guess their roles correctly.

Eight years of development, adoption of industry standard tooling and a (relatively) limited scope. Oh yes, it's still possible to deliver complete garbage on a technical level, but under those conditions they had everything going for them. So congrats for holding to a vision and really using that time for polish. Sorry the product was a complete turd.

They think that they already have the “gamer” demographic cornered. They think it gives them selling power. You like games, sony makes games, so you’ll buy their garbage regardless of what it is. They want to “increase the size of the pie” by bringing in new demographics who don’t play games. They believe they can achieve this by reading twitter and thinking that’s what the larger population enjoy.
As for govt money, free money is free money. The govt doing this is for more or less the same reason. They want a bigger tax base to leech off. Importing 3rd world is faster than human birth, and also they think it guarantees them indentured votes. They need the larger population to think weird ugly cretins are normal so they are unfazed when seeing them all around them.

Exactly. Think about a "very special episode" or how sequels to hit movies is when thed poz stuff up.

Think about how many people use Battlestar galactica as an example of a "tough female lead done right" or DS9 as a "black character done right" as if those shoes wouldn't be hits even if it was a shitty character.

OTOH, there were always failures. The first attempt at a primetime TV show with an open gay character happened in the 80s, it flopped. Same thing with that TV show about a woman president.

But overall people rarely jump into propaganda, but if it is included in something they enjoy they don't care.

This won't happen just because of how many older games that people will continue to buy to prop up the market. Blizzard still makes over a billion from wow accounts.

But the console market is probably dead at this point. PC gaming has been mostly indie trash or older games for awhile. Steamcharts have proven people are playing games over a decade old way more often than they're playing games related in the last 10 months.

I think gaming will just turn into a niche thing. Kids might get a switch but would need to buy a PC to experience real games so they just won't. The market will shrink in response, all games will be made by less than a dozen dudes just like in the 90s.

Mobile games have apparently been a bigger market than other games for years now.

There probably is a woke player base, but they aren't going to be jumping into an FPS game and there certainly aren't 10 million of the fuckers.

Disco Elysium was not only hyped by breadtube but used a fuck load of open socialists in the smaller voice roles. I know a bizarre amount of people for whom that's the **only** video game they've ever played or the first one they've played since they were kids.

But it's also just a VN with unique presentation and cRPGs are a bit more unique as a genre because it's fanbase is older and more willing to experience new ideas.

Hero shooters in general are a hard sell, there's a reason pre-OW, the only one people could name was TF2 and it was known for their spergy fanbase.

The market could barely sustain one game in that genre and it got like 10.

Dustbirn also just is too "video gamey" for the woke and not good enough for gamers.

It beats every other game console in history for most units sold in its 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th year too.

Nintendo abandoning the WiiU and DS and going all in on the switch was a genius move.

They were the kings of the handheld and realized mobile and themselves were cannibalizing the market so they just turned the DS and Wii into one product.

Every kids first "game console" was a Nintendo handheld so why not just make the handheld into a console as well.

Them realizing it was the console rather than the games themselves driving people away was amazing in hindsight too, no way in hell Sony or Microsoft would blame themselves rather than the games.
 
What else is there even to say, thank you Concord for the 2 weeks of entertainment already provided, and unknown weeks of fun to come in your compete and utter failure of an existence and all for the lovely price of 0$.

I'll just leave this completely unrelated picture of someone cosplaying as a functioning aquarium here well Sony & game "journalists" try and figure out how this game could have ever failed.

IIRC Hyenas had a similar amount sunk into it before Sega canned the project. Was a shock at the time, but I think Concord's dumpster fire just vindicated the suits over there.

And I think Hyenas had a lot more going for it too, even if it got panned for nostalgia banking.
 
I remember that the Federal government actually uses taxpayer money to peddle/sustain woke bullshit in the movie/gaming/media industries among other means of propaganda, I highly suspect the suits figured the projection of trickle sales would still be a massive loss so theres probably some loophole involving the government where they get a massive write off and barely feel any blow since they're essentially subsidized to pump out this slop without feeling any real pushback from consumer markets. In summary, I highly doubt this will bring any real changes since it's all a rigged system.

Might have been mentioned already but I saw some videos (don't have them now, unfortunately) of this fucking faggot going to stores and asking them to show him physical copies of the game and going:
"I'm in this game, this game is me! I'm playing this character"
To which people would reply "oh, uh, really?"
And he'd go "do you want me to autograph it?"

Ape escape 4 kept getting hinted at without announcement for years and they even had a designated social media they made that was hyping up/hinting at the new game only for it to mysteriously close with some cryptic message about "not meeting goals this year" and then news came out later that it was cause sony shut down their japanese division and studio like a few months later.
Sony has just become another tendril of california's media oligarchy and it REALLY fucking shows. Most people still just use ps3 and ps4 which speaks fucking volumes of the current sony situation.
