That has now been done to death, unfortunately.

Team Fortress 2 has simplistic, functional designs and has been alive and active for over 17 years now and last time I checked, the 24-hour peak was around 60,000 players. And I’m pretty sure at the time, it didn’t cost even close to $40 million (and that’s being generous), let alone $200 million.

How’s Foamstars doing? It lost 94% of its playerbase within its first two months, then went free-to-play.

It was only released on the PS4 and PS5, so I can’t find any metrics on it.
I could be wrong but I seem to recall TF2 was cobbled together over a weekend by Valve devs on a lark, using mostly existing assets. Like Portal it was a game made from leftovers and cost little more than the weekly salaries of people they were gonna be paying anyway.

Overwatch was similar. Blizzard had been developing a sci/fi superhero MmO as a follow up to WoW. But it just wasn't working out so they cancelled it. Overwatch was 90% the leftover designs and systems from that. The parts they could get working.

Sony spent at some estimates $200 million and took 8 years to make a game that their competitors threw together over a weekend, while drunk, and just using cast asside leftovers.

That doesn't feel like it if you look at all the development that has been documented about it and footage/screenshots. The very first trailer is very different from how things turned out on release. They leaned deeper into the cartoonish aspect of it, coloring as an identifier was refined, and classes gained character.

They basically just reworked a Quake mod of the same name. Even the maps most often in rotation are based on old 1996 maps like 2fort4. I spent many a stoned hour in the '90s eating pizza with friends and playing this shit either at a LAN party or on the Internet with four of us as the team. Teamchat was a lot easier when people actually had to get together to share an Internet connection and it consisted of yelling "Hey Steve do whatever."

They're straight up yanking games out of your console in an effort to memory hole them. I really, REALLY don't like the precedent this sets
Okay, but they already did this with PT years ago. That's why to this day you can buy ps4's with PT installed at a premium.
I don't like it either, but this isn't a precedent, this is continuance.

Edited: This is incorrect. I have mistaken this for another instance in which a game was remotely deleted from a console. I don't remember which one it is though.

PS 5 pro Price hike doesn't have anything to do with Concord and other major Sony disasters. That fucking console is another disaster in itself, Sony is bleeding and I'm out of Tampax.

Looks like I'm sitting with PC crowd before nuclear apocalypse starts.

The PS5 Pro price itself isn’t even the dumbest thing about it (imo): it’s the fact they think the upgrades are commensurate with the pricepoint.

“Look! You can see slightly more pores on Ellie’s face in The Last Of Us! And there’s a few more blades of grass in the Ratchet and Clank remaster!”…So? Only the most anal autists will notice or even care about the differences, I’d honestly be happy if big companies like Rockstar reverted back to PS2-era graphics if it meant more fleshed-out games with more interactivity!

Sony uses cheap competent on PS5 pro and sells it for 800 € in EU. Price for low end gaming PC or laptop that has more processing power.

Another symptom of Sony is lack of good game instead of Ubisoft slop (Ubisoft stock is around 15 dollars and Middle of hostile takeover), shit like Concord and more. One game doesn't save a company.

Maybe I remember wrong but I think they never removed PT like they did with concord. It was just delisted. People who have on their console, can still play it. Its also a single player game and people remade them for pc.

So Sony is just outright yeeting the game off people's consoles.

Not really a surprise considering it's a live service game with no servers and therefore just bloatware on your console.

I find it fucking funny though. They are just erasing that shit from existence almost.
Just want to make it known that Life of Black Tiger is still up for sale on PSN.
A game that barely functions, that was shit on from the whole internet. Is still up.

Imagine how fucking gay and lame they would make it though. Tony would get killed in the opening cutscene and some diverse nigger person of gender would be the playable character for the rest.
Now, absolutely, but if they'd jumped on it right after Anthem flopped there's a chance it could have been not entirely pozzed. Worst case scenario you'd have DLC to play as Pepper Potts that no one would buy.
They removed it harder than they removed PT.
This begs the question of who is dumber: Sony for funding then immediately pulling a $100-million game, or Konami for delisting PT instead of slapping a $5 price tag on it and making money for nothing.

imo the dumbest thing is even dumber than that: it's the fact that Sony Sisters actually believe any game is going to be running at the specs provided in the showcase. Even Sony were smart enough to cover their ass with an asterisk on every Pro feature saying it would only be available for participating titles, which is only going to be Sony exclusives, of which there are hardly any, and which you'll still have to choose between running at (AI upscaled) 8k OR 120fps (unlocked).

I don't know about the rest of you, but I cannot wait for the Digital Foundry videos when the Pro launches.

Question, can't it be the case like WB doing a 50M$ Batgirl film and then shelving it for a tax break?

The whole development process behind the game sounds like the usual dead end corporate task that's been shelved and unshelved for several years, accumulating a ton of costs in the process. It's not like Red Dead Redemption 2 that had a ton of work done on it to justify the insane development time.

You are correct. I have edited the original post.
There is another instance of this happening but I don't remember exactly what it was. It might have been some emulator on xbox one but I am very sure this has happened before. If I come across what it was I will update.

Thats been my opinion for a while now. The biggest issue the game industry has is its become so expensive to make them because the money is being pumped into the parts that matter less than THE FUCKING GAMEPLAY. We don't need graphical fidelity to the point you can see ever pore on a zombies ass crack, we don't need gigantic orchestral scores that cost several million to produce, we don't need or want microtransactions and bullshit DLC. Scale back the the scope and focus on refining and perfecting what actually matters, the goddamn gameplay. If you're not wasting all that time and money making sure I can see every micro-chip in a suit of armor and instead making more shit I actually want to interact with, I'd be a hell of a lot less miserly about my purchases than I've become.

I can't remember the exact explanation, but a YouTuber I enjoy, Luke Stephens, did a video about Concord recently and said this is unlikely because Sony didn't fund Concord from the start, so it's not technically theirs to write off. I can't find the exact video but it's somewhere on his livestream channel I think.

Maybe if they closed Firewalk they could write the entire studio off for a tax break?

It sounds similar to how Nexon wrote off LawBreakers as a total loss, and that game got released too. The difference (I think), was that CliffyB and Nexon were hoping that the game would succeed, where as Sony already knew that Concord was going to be a dud, from the reaction to the reveal trailer.

i have no idea how a lawsuit hasn't already happened. unlike most class actions, they might be able to get a relevant amount of money since everyone was already refunded the purchase price.
