How is he in touch? Does he like being petted?
They are pretty fragile (especially their tails), so petting them isn't the greatest idea. I mostly just let him crawl on me or occasionally he'll take a snooze on me since they love heat lol.

Ah yes, im very content Indeed.
Omg I love rats too! I used to keep them in elementary school. They’re so much easier and smarter than cavies, hamsters, gerbils, or mice. They’re nice and chill, they take handling easily, they weigh like 400g which makes them pretty sturdy, and they’re very curious and intelligent. I would make mazes and cardboard castles for mine and never really understood why people would shriek if I offered to let them hold a rat. They’d all say “ew those naked worm tails” and I’m thinking “yeah but you think squirrels are cute, and they suck.”

I did however figure out how to troll my babysitters by placing a rat beanie baby under the bed so it looked as if there was a rat running loose in the my room though :)

The only regrat is the life span. These poor things promptly shuffle off their mortal coil at 3 years of age under ideal care, and usually litter mates die within a month of one another. :( I guess when God made rats he decided it was better for them to live fast than live long.

I fucking love cats. Cats are just little fluffy anti-stress devices. The purring helps me relax, especially when they lay on you in bed. One of mine would sleep on my feet like a pair of slippers while I was WFH on the computer. I've had so many different pets over the years but cats tend to be ones I find myself the biggest fan of.

I used to be obsessed with the idea of getting a chinchilla when I was a little kid. I bought books about caring for them and read up so much but never did get one. Has anyone had one, what can you vouch about them?

Also ^ Rats are adorable and I love them. I've never had one but had to babysit a friend's ones a few times when she was away from town and they were always so playful and loved being handled.

Update on Sasha the sassy cat: She's a bitey diva that swipes at anyone who pets her for more than a nanosecond. 10/10

I have selectively deaf cats and I assume most cats choose when to hear what we have to say. All of my oriental shorthair boys lose/lost hearing outside.

I don't know how old Sasha is. Is she a tortie? Mine grew out of it at 16 so there's hope.
s there a good test to tell if your car is deaf, or if they're just faking?
Sneak up behind and clap as loud as possible. It sounds cruel but you'll know. Do it say if you're obth on the sofa and the cat is facing away from you.

I feel super guilty. We are going away for 3 weeks, trip of a lifetime type thing built around attending a wedding a long way away. I'm at my parents overnight and brought my cats over today. The older one is chill as fuck. The younger one is losing his shit a bit. They both lived here 3 months while we were waiting for our house purchase to go through. I brought the blanket he always sleeps on and thought me being here a night before I leave would help him settle.

Poor little guy is running around squeaking like mad and looking for any exit. I feel so guilty. I know its better than a cattery or a pet sitter. I should have bought him some Zylkene. I'll be lucky to get any sleep tonight, great when you have a looooooooonnnnggggggg journey ahead.

Also if I never log in again after tomorrow and a plane went down going into or out of Doha our connection, assume I was on it and I'm dead.Flight anxiety sucks.

First of all, all your animals are absolutely the cutest, I'm very envious of you, please give them a cuddle from me ❤️

Secondly, I'm thinking of getting a gecko as a pet. Context: I've owned cats, dogs and hamsters, unfortunately while I'd love to adopt a cat/dog/rat/hamster/bunny/budgie etc., I cannot do so at this moment. I work from home too little and I cannot bear the thought of leaving my pet by itself all day long, but I also really miss having a little creature with whom to share my house with.

After a little bit of research it seems that reptiles would be a good solution for me, in particular I read that geckos are pretty chill, do not require too much interaction with humans, are pretty easy to keep and as a bonus are gorgeous as hell. However, I've never had any reptiles so, TL,DR: does anyone here have any experience with them? Would you recommend geckos for a first-time reptile owner? What's the commitment/costs like?

I'd recommend a snake of some sort. Nothing big, just a king snake, corn snake, or milk snake. Those snakes are known for being chill.

My husband's sure that his grandma cat is just faking it, but I'm not so sure.
My Siamese boi went from being scared of the vacuum cleaner to being so unbothered that I have to shoo him out of the path of me vacuuming.
He was also the type that always comes when you call his name and he doesn't do that anymore, you won't even see his ears twitch.
Our other hint was that he quadrupled in volume and strategically meows at places that echo, which is really fun at 2am.

He will, however, perk up when he hears his sister's meow which is very high.

I want to get a hamster and I was wondering what you guy's experience with them were like. Do they need a lot of socialization? I have a day job so I don't want it to be lonely. Are hamsters nocturnal? I heard they're mainly active in the evening but wild hamsters are active during the day too.

Hamsters are the autistic loners of the rodent world. They barely want their humans to interact with them. Make sure the hamster has a good enclosure with lots of room to explore and plenty of enrichment. Do not get the classic set up. That shit is not good for hamsters.

I've never had a hamster, so that's the best I can do for you right now. I recommend going to hamster forums and the hamster subreddit. I know Reddit is cringe, but it's great for finding animal care resources.

Just noticed Sasha likes taking the Hellhound's food. She had a stash on her cat tower. The dog just lets her steal some pieces out of her puzzle bowls. Speaking of which, the Hellhound's 2nd birthday is coming up. Anyone know any good challenging puzzle toys that are doable for a mastiff?

Her wide snout makes a lot of the more advanced puzzles harder for her to do. Also planning to get her a new pretty collar. Maybe a longer version of that red Kong stick. She loves playing a hybrid of fetch and tug with the standard sized one, which is kinda dangerous now due to the stick being only half as long as her snout is wide.

Yeah, this dog is spoiled. Any animal that ends up in my care gets pampered as much as I possibly can afford. If I had pet tardigrades, I'd be trying to make little water parks for them.

I'm so proud of my boy. He used to be really gregarious, then I don't know what happened but he became afraid of everyone apart from my partner and I, even people he's known since he was a kitten.

Anyway, yesterday I saw three little girls trying to coax him to them on the drive. I went out and gave them treats to lure him and he ate them from their hands. He wouldn't let them stroke him til I picked him up then he let them all give him chin scritches

I have literally "snuck up" on my grandma cat while vacuuming. I rounded a corner with it, and she met me head-on, but she wasn't scared of it? She did that awkward little hop cats do, like the: "oh I'm sorry, I'll leave" move.

We also started doing TNR with the strays in the area, and I'm very happy with how it's going! However, we had one mommy cat who was separated from her kitties today (they're going to be adopted out!), and she was returned to us to just... Let her be a stray again, after spaying. And while it's certainly better than euthanizing her, I still feel bad.

My husband keeps saying she's a psycho, and that's very funny to me.

Poor Pooka paw, tiny upholstered bun feetie is now catcher's mitt after he caught a bee with it this morning.

Small void has turned into large fat void (don't worry i'm monitoring her food intake) and has decided that the top of the PC vent is the best place to sleep. Also she's adopted both my partner and i as her favourite humans. Which has been nice and tough since our old girl was put to sleep.
