The way I remember it. I heard stories of them:

1. Person goes to some girl in a poor country.
2. Promise to fly them out and get them work.
3. Pay them back by doing sex work once they go.

So, yeah. Luring. Or worse, sometimes the parents sell them.

I stopped reading any true crime stories about female victims as well. Kidnapped, raped, murdered, the end. None of them are really "unresolved mysteries", come on. We all know what happens to missing girls. The ones about adult men disappearing are much more interesting and tend not to involve voyeurism of a real person's horrific rape/dismemberment. They usually wind up being actual crime stories with twists and turns and mob bosses and such.

Bro, the most annoyingly weird shit is when they'll be like: "Happy Birthday to this beautiful little girl. She would've been 37 today!" or whatever the hell. They'll post regular pictures of JBR and shit. Her case is super interesting in how puzzling it is, obviously. And it's definitely a horrific tragedy with a real victim we should remember. But these folks form weird parasocial relationships with dead children they've never met who died 30 years ago and shit. One weirdo recently went to the house and snapped pics, wtf. The case that interests me a lot is about the judge who went missing, VCR was recording the super bowl and he'd made sandwiches and then was just...gone. He was found as a hit and run victim I think in a totally different state, had bought plane tickets, and was found wearing military clothes that his wife said he didn't even own. The whole thing is really weird. I can't remember his name off the top of my head but I'm sure some of you know who I'm talking about. it's a case that gets brought up pretty often in unsolved mystery compilations.
