In a surprising move, Valve’s latest CS2 update now allows stickers to be placed almost anywhere on weapons, and in any rotation. This has instantly led to some creative crafts, as well as some downright offensive ones.

Ever since stickers were added to CS:GO, they have been limited to four pre-set spots on weapons. This meant that while players could personalize their skins, they didn’t have total freedom.

On February 6, the first major content update for CS2 went live, and threw a spanner in the works with the ability to place stickers anywhere on weapons, as well as all weapons now supporting five stickers.

Of course, the inevitable happened, as players quickly found ways to make bizarre, funny, or simply offensive words or drawings with the sticker placement.
Although it was already possible to spell out three or four-letter words with some sticker combinations, this new update has made it far easier.
Because some stickers include lettering, such as ‘GG’ (good game), these stickers in particular have shot up in price on the Steam market.

The obvious reason for this rise is players using the sticker to spell out words – in some cases, very offensive words.

Others are using the new tools to make predictably juvenile shapes.

This would have been a predictable outcome too, considering the same has been done in other games like Call of Duty, whenever this level of customization is permitted.

Whether or not creating offensive sticker crafts would ever be a bannable action though, is unknown. In Call of Duty for example, players reported for creating offensive emblems would often lose the ability to make emblems.

The sticker update generally in CS2 has caused confusion, as the skin market tries to react. Some of the most expensive stickers in the game are worth tens of thousands of dollars, and this update could either make them even pricier or crash the market entirely.

If they remove or even remotely harshly punish people that do this they're shooting themselves in the foot massively with how badly they fucked up with CS2 already.

Haven't played in years but if valve doesn't suck the frankentroon cock on this issue then I might pick it back up again. Providing they fix the netcode first.

If Valve doesn't have a problem with people using name tags in TF2 to similar effect I can't see them taking issue with this. The niggerfaggot population in TF2 is also infinitely higher than CS'.
It's not even just nametags. TF2 has an item called the Conscientious Objector since 2011. It's a wooden sign allows for custom decals, and the consensus of what's the most common decal?image.png
Second place of most common probably goes to anime or porn (or both).

Some faggots were trying to start a shitshow over this around 2021-2023 on Twitter/Youtube/Reddit (yes, 10+ years after the item was added, and while the game has bigger issues like bots) asking for it to be removed or moderated with the argument of "THINK OF DA CHILDREN!!!".

They seem to miss the point that TF2's age rating in most countries is pretty high:
  • Australia:MA15+ (2008)
  • Brazil:18
  • France:16
  • Germany:18
  • New Zealand:R16
  • United Kingdom:15 (BBFC)
  • United Kingdom:16 (PEGI)
  • United States:M
  • United States:TV-MA (LV, Not suitable for young children)
  • United States:TV-14 (LV, with warning)
  • United States:T (edited)
Therefore, Valve has no obligation to censor any of this, they aren't your babysitter. If your kid sees degenerate shit on TF2, that's on you for allowing them to play.

But yeah, if you want a precedent, this item was around when Valve still cared about TF2 and nothing was done (good). Different times though, I could totally see them finding a (lazy) way to bend over for troons and fags nowadays.

I hope Valve stays as hands-off and neutral as they have been and doesn't nerf this. Don't be niggerfaggots about the nigger and faggot stickers, Valve.
I hope as a compromise they just finally allow players to disable skins and all that gaudy shit.

Counter-Strike captured the hearts of generations because because it was gritty, steeped in “realism”, and despite its repetition no two rounds ever felt the same. I want the terrorists to look like terrorists and the CTs to be dressed like SWAT. Not so much the weapons that I’m bothers by but some of the player skins look like they belong in GI Joe.

Credit where credit is due they didn’t suck out the soul entirely, modern Call of Duty has models that don’t belong whatsoever and make Fortnite look tasteful by contrast. But Valve makes billions I should hold the right to avoid Barbie dress up.

Are they surprised this happened?

That's the problem with modern gaming.

30 years ago, the programmers were smart enough to know what would happen if you made this feature.

They still are.

But, the ones demanding the feature are C-suite executives, who DON'T know what they're getting into until it's too late.

I hope they keep it. I remember playing tf2 with my friends and we would put down sprays with Hitler or the nazi flag on the walls where we would valiantly defend the "nazi outpost" as we called it. Shit was kino.

Another favorite was porn, there was always at least one guy on the opposition who would stop to gawk at it and you could dome him for a free gun.

Yeah remember falling for this trick once, seeing the spray in the wall only to get backstabbed by a spy lol. Sometimes the sprays would be genuinely useful reminding the team of important things and to be cooperative (like letting heavies use the teleporter first and whatnot). Nowadays that's considered a far right chud mechanic because God forbid players have fun outside the control of the developers.

If you were lucky, the other guys on his team would be so pissed off for him falling for it that they might TK him the next round in the hopes he'd just leave.

Delete the offending items outright? That's hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars down the drain, that'll scare away the player from investing his money into the game and will cause fear and uncertainty in the playerbase that'll also lead to less people spending their money on cases and skins.

Remove the new sticker placement feature? People love that shit because they finally got something awesome from CS2 that CS:GO never offered, so that'll piss away all the goodwill gained with this update.
Get woke go broke.

You just made me remember that CS especially with voice chat now being commonplace is pretty much the last bastion of old fashioned unironically "toxic" player communication.

And with that said there's two things that killed my enjoyment of Valve multiplayer games. That I feel akin to Chris Chan playing Pokemon TCG with children if I hear kids on the other end. But most of all the fucking whiners who have to criticize everything I do because I'm not and never was any good in these damn games.

And fun fact I did play Rainbow Six Siege for a few weeks and had fun, then one match I got critiqued by a 12 year old for fucking up an easy kill and it made me consider selling my PC and never touching a video game. I would rather be called "NIGGERFAGGOTKIKE" in every single game over having someone tell me I suck because I shouldn't have wasted my money in the wrong round.

As much as I wish Valve stays away, they might cave in because muh esports (and the can of worms that has). The least they'll do is add an option to hide stickers or something similar.
