Possibly, I admit I don't know very much about that, so feel free to disregard. Even if true, I don't think it undermines my point very much, maybe I just overstated that the system would survive for "very long" or that it is to be disputed what "long" means in terms of countries and peoples. 20 years is about one generation of people after all.
I think that Robert Barnes is spot on when he said that these kind of regimes (Latin America socialist/communist/authoritarian) start falling apart whenever the strongman departs from power. Venezuelans started stirring shit up only after Chavez died, Cubans after Castros were no longer in power.
