This is the most pertinent question imho. If he really believes all this merge shit and doesn't abandon it all as make-believe as soon as he realizes that the jail arc is deadly serious and for real, he may possibly be ruled incompetent to stand trial. If they can't drug him back into reality in 90 days or less so he can stand trial, he could spend an indefinite amount of time in the nut hatch without benefit of trial---potentially more than the 10 - 12 years maximum sentence he's facing.
Idk if you guys are following the Lori Vallow Daybell case or not, but there are some interesting similarities (the most major difference being that she's up for the murder of her own two children). Lori Vallow Daybell got hooked up with a weird Mormon-aligned doomsday cult. She believed that people were being possessed or body-snatched or something and replaced with evil beings; the cult called them "zombies". Somewhere along the way she came to believe that her two children were "zombies", and allegedly, her brother and her new husband/cult leader murdered the children and disposed of them on the husband/cult leaders land, where their remains were found. Lori Vallow Daybell was found incompetent to stand trial and is now in the nut hatch for the next 90 days, and it's probable that her stay will be extended indefinitely at her next hearing. If Chris genuinely believes in this merge shit, that may happen to him.
