Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

There are plenty of combat mods to make the Witcher more brutal and visceral if that's your thing

Honestly, I think the issue is less with brutality and visceral stuff and more that it felt like very symplistic stuff, you couldnt train in new fighting moves or styles and there wasnt something in say combos. Which honestly would have been cool if you were allowed to train in different school styles with each of em having their benefits and flaws.

The only RPGs I can think of with enjoyable non-turn-based combat have been DS and Nier: Automata; I'm probably pretty limited since I don't mess with shooters or anything in that perspective too much. Didn't like Mass Effect much either.

Witcher 3 with something like a Return of the King hack and slash combo system would've been my game of the decade, tbh. I'd say an open world would leech the appeal of those mechanics, but the game isn't shy about throwing nekkers at you ad infinitum so combos would've been a great addition. Whirl/Rend comes close but that's mostly a "push button for things to die" mechanic instead of combos.

They'll have an easier time with a shooter rpg, at least I'd like to think. Complex Sword play is much harder to do well than aiming and shooting.

Well, depends if they are gonna make a shooter RPG, one needs to take into account how the player probably will have to start with say shit accuracy, an upon either putting points into weapons ( which makes me wonder if they are gonna break those down into several slots like in the book) or will them getting specific body mods allow em to gain bonuses in combat for better accuracy and damage.

I mean more that it's easier to make shooting feel good and find different creative ways to do one thing (aim and shoot) than it is to create an in depth melee combat system that feels good. Though I'm probably simplifying it a bit too much.

I really hope the combat in Cyberpunk isn't just bang-bang-rattatatat-kablooey with an optional but unnecessary melee attack. If I can't rush people on hydraulic legs and aerate some jugulars as my primary attack option I'll be very disappointed.

I hope so too. They showed attaching to a wall with your blade arms and stealth killing some fuckers so maybe they're also thinking that.

"Cyberpunk 2077 is a whole... thing. I've been avoiding the discourse around it intentionally - it's one of Those Games that has an incredibly large vitriolic audience, and anything approaching meaningful discussion tends to just be a sure fire way to just draw their ire. I'll put it this way: It looks big and beautiful and I'm gonna bet the people looking forward to it are going to have a grand time exploring its world, but I've played cyberpunk games and I've played RPG games and I don't know if this is scratching my particular itch on either of those fronts. As for Keanu Reeves - he's currently red hot, and between Johnny Mnemonic and The Matrix he's a cyberpunk staple. But I think that also underscores their surface level implementation of the genre as a "greatest hits" compilation of cyberpunk aesthetics and ideas rather than a game with its own thing to say."

Agree or disagree?

I kinda disagree, because well..let's think how many "cyberpunk" games we have or even cyberpunk RPGs. There's the Deus Ex series and then there's the 3 Shadowrun games as major known games go, Indie wise I can only recall a game called Dex and that's about it. Also, yeah the game is gonna be a compilation because everyone else borrowed concepts from it so how does it do it's own thing when people already copied concepts/ideas from the TTRPG, Blade Runner an etc.

Why no, no I'm not serious.

That doesn't explain why the Witcher 3's story just sort of trails off after you find Ciri though.
it doesn't, but i felt that was an issue of the narrative just being very front loaded, i felt kind of spoiled by the time i found Ciri and after you find her there's really nothing that equals the first half in terms of quests at least, after you find Ciri and do the battle at Kaer Morhen the objective is to just do some fan service quests until the next plot development turns up until eventually the Wild Hunt shows up to attack.

EYE Divine Cybermancy, which is a super-jank French Deus Ex with a cult following. MGS also gets dangerously close to Cyberpunk at points. There were a few GitS games but I've only played the Fuchikoma based shooter for the PS1 which is a good game but not a good cyberpunk game. Looking at what Google thinks of as Cyberpunk games System Shock, Snatcher, and Syndicate stand out.

I feel that uncle tom pretty much became the n-word for progressives to use. Just another dismissive and pejorative buzzword for black guys with independent thoughts.
I honestly find being called an Uncle Tom worst. If you're calling me a nigger unironically at least I know where we stand and I can respect that much. People who say Uncle Tom tend to be assholes who like to pretend they're on the right side of history and totally not racist, so it's "okay" when they do it. Fuck off, you're racist.

That explains a few things.
I'm surprised that a company that keeps releasing games with tons of combat didn't have a team specifically to deal with that, but yeah that explains a lot

To be fair plenty of games with dedicated people for the combat have terrible combat.

it doesn't, but i felt that was an issue of the narrative just being very front loaded, i felt kind of spoiled by the time i found Ciri and after you find her there's really nothing that equals the first half in terms of quests at least, after you find Ciri and do the battle at Kaer Morhen the objective is to just do some fan service quests until the next plot development turns up until eventually the Wild Hunt shows up to attack.
Nothing that happens after you find Ciri makes any sense. There's clearly a bunch of cut content. Just "check in with the other zones for a farewell, get Macguffin for...reasons. Bossfight with Eredin." Most of the subplots just abruptly get brushed under the rug or rushed to a nonsensical conclusion for lack of time to justify events (Radovid's death). Even basic character moments suffer. Every relationship but Geralt-Ciri gets very short shrift. Yennefer barely says three lines to her adopted daughter in cutscenes.

I'm sure this all seems fine if Witcher 3 was the only part of the series you're familiar with but the ending fails to deliver closure for plots from either Witcher 2 or the books. Except Letho. He escaped the cutting room floor, somehow. Viper school stronk.

Well, I'm going to have to get Cyberpunk now that the media is throwing a bitchfit over it.

As much as autistic sites like OneAngryGamer like to push that, I don't think any game has ever been notably successful based purely on "Screw you SJWs!". If it increases sales, it will be a small amount. Normies don't care about this shit.

I've seen lots of people claim to have bought Kingdom Come: Deliverance for that reason, but it's hard to tell, as the game was also a hit due to its historical realism and hardcore mechanics.

Both actually, but a lot of it was with the whole "hardcore mechanics" and realism.

That doesn't explain why the Witcher 3's story just sort of trails off after you find Ciri though.

Honestly, I'd somewhat blame the books, because while it doesn't follow 'em to the letter it does borrow concept from it. But, by this point even the books were falling apart, hell I'm amazed the game didn't approach that weird meta territory.

Not that shocking, with how weird the combat was in Witcher 1 with you needing to change stances or how janky it looked in Witcher 2. It kinda gives an impression they didn't have any teams for this sort of thing.

The reason all this 'controversy' over Cyberpunk popped up is because its extraordinarily popular. These people have been hurting for revenue for years. They need this to try and stay alive. Though honestly I think RPS is going to get really fucked from this. They were on the edge to begin with, but now they're completely fucked. I've seen articles going after fucking Yong Yea saying he is a white supremacist, progressives all but calling Mike Pondsmith a nigger.

My hope is that CD Projekt realizes this is for the fans, not for these people. Nobody cares about these people. RPS is growing more and more irrelevant by the day. Also YouTube is moving towards the absolute censorship stage. Its getting really fucking crazy now.
