Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

Dragon Age: Origins had a pretty wide selection of background choices that were all significantly different and all tied back into the main story at least once in a significant and unique way. It's true that most games don't really manage that, but on the other hand Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for, what, 6 years now? It's not like they didn't have the time if they'd wanted to do something like that.

Outside of the intros and some extra dialogue/scenes when you returned to the place you were from, I don't remember the effects of the backgrounds being terribly far-reaching. To the point where, after I played the game a couple of times, I played the intros of other backgrounds, just to see what they were like, and then never played any further into the game, because I already knew it didn't affect the story in any great detail.

The biggest effect is that playing as a noble human I think you can maybe have yourself crowned king? Outside of little bits of dialogue choices here and there, I don't remember any major effects on the story.

IMO it wasn't really so much about the effects on the story as it was giving the player a chance to have a greater personal involvement in different parts of the game, i.e., playing as the Human Noble made the stakes higher when you were dealing with Howe since he killed your parents and usurped your family's title, the Dwarven Noble had more of an involvement in the succession conflict in Orzammar (and was personally fucked over by it), the Mage had a personal conflict with the Circle, etc., etc. I'll grant that this was imbalanced; the Dwarven Commoner origin has fuck-all to do with most of the goings-on in Orzammar and instead you get a minor link to the crime boss there, for example, and for the most part these links are superficial and don't give you any unique options in dealing with their respective linked parts of the story.

All that to be said that I wouldn't mind something similar in Cyberpunk - a little playable intro section for each background that shows how you get caught up in the events of the game, just to give you a little more grounding in the world right off the bat.

So, according to a Russian gaming site, it seems Cyberpunk might get some DLC stuff in the vain of Witcher 3 of huge new locations, plots an etc. Suffice to say, some people are pissy about this news.
That's literally what an expansion pack is. Last I heard those are better than DLC because you actually get way more content than you pay for. Blood and Wine is proof CDPR knows how to do it right

Replaying the Witcher 3 right now, and I would wish for more spread out entrypoints into the story. In such long games, sometimes you get burned out after a certain amount of hours. But if I want to enjoy, say, the endgame DLC (Blood & Wine) again because the first time I was rushing through it, with all of my own story decisions, I have to play through the whole game. It would be nice if I could start just the endgame (or certain chapters in the story) and choose all the relevant story beats in a multiple choice thingy.

I wonder if they're going to have any of the original Cyberpunk 2020 NPC's in the game? I played the everyloving shit out of the TTRPG back in the day. Hell, one memorable run was taking actual Porterhouse Steaks from Texas to Night City of the goddamn Interstate system. That was a complete shitshow.

I'm hoping the cyberware is better than the fucking bullshit Shadowrun game. Holy shit, did that game disappoint. "Totally new adventure" and as soon as I
saw the "Universal Brotherhood" logo on the side of the building I knew I'd run into Harlequin and be fighting fucking insect spirits and end up facing off against the Hive. And even then, the worthless faggots couldn't be bothered with following up with Against the Hive or Chicago Containment Zone in a logical progression and instead had to jump straight to Germany for the fucking dragon module. Bitch, do you think I didn't play those fucking modules? Gimme my $50 back, you worthless faggots.

I also hope that if it's 1PPoV that when the smartgun link is installed it actually does something, like add the reticle or maybe enhance what was a bare-bones HUD.

The game looks good, I'll give it that, and having Mike Pondsmith onboard really stokes the encouragement, but I'm wondering how well the game translates to computer.

And I wonder if they're going to approach the Nanoplague (Can't remember the exact name, but where it turned your body to nanomachines) or just brush that aside and ignore it as part of the whole nanotechnology is magic craze in fiction and movies.

Another thing is, did they add the old favorite locations from Night City? Any of the old favorite NPC's? Or did they completely go with new stuff?

I'm looking forward to it, because so far CDPR seems to operate on slavic magic and vodka goblin voodoo, but at the same time I'm a little leery after the last few games that have come out based on old favorite RPG's.

Maybe they'll make Twilight 2000 next. That would fucking rule. It was set in Poland (except the Why Go Home? series and the American Anarchy Zone stuff) for the most part, with the Free City of Krakow being a pretty big deal.

Well, reportedly they've got another game gearing up in the back while all this is going on, a bit like how CP77 was first teased a couple of years before W3.

Personally, I hope it's something totally and utterly different. As far from an RPG as you can get. Maybe like a building game, or a flight sim. Actually, that would be epic. A proper hardcore flight sim set in an alternate history where the Cold War goes hot but not nuclear. Choose between NATO and the Warsaw Pact and with a dynamic campaign a bit like in IL-2 Sturmovik. Then we could have those ultimate showdowns of ultimate destiny as to whether the F-15 and F-16 really was better than the Mig-29 and Sukhoi Flanker.

It'll be a fourth Witcher game because investors.

How though? There are so many ending permutations to W3 they can't rework everything to fit, surely.

Unless it's sort of a prequel where you are some other witcher in an earlier timeframe and can be either Bear, Wolf, Cat, Griffin, Viper, or Manticore and you have to start out a a newly minted witcher fresh off the Trial of Grasses and work your way up to being master witcher of your school. Actually, that would be quite cool because it would add a sort of management layer to it.

They'll ignore it, set it very distant from the northern kingdoms, or set a canon ending. Like every other game that claimed to have continuing story. It's not like the endings made much sense anyway.

I suspect it will star Ciri going off W3's Ciri becomes a Witcher ending.

If it were me, I would have Smartlink'ed guns just show you a straight up targeting reticle on the screen without needing to aim down sights to be accurate. Maybe less spread when hipfiring as well. More fancy Smartlinks could also show you enemy HP or highlight areas where you can shoot for more damage, IDK.

just a story that doesn't involve Geralt & co similar to how Thronebreaker set place before the events of The Witcher trilogy with you playing as Queen Meve.

if they're ever doing another game with The Witcher, i would love for it to be about being some random baby that gets abducted and gets subjected to the Trial of Grasses to a Witcher school of your choosing.

That would be quite cool. They could then include Vesemir in his younger days if you pick Wolf. But then again, I'd pick Griffin every time. That green armour.

All right, here some of you go....

Night City, part of the Free State of California, population 5 Million.

Probably they're going to skip Cyber Generation (I hope).

Here's some data on Cyberware.

It's a good channel if you want to know the lore of Cyberpunk 2020.

Don't be a wage-slave, know your territory, know your gear, know the movers and shakers.

Edit: Minor Metal Sperg

As far as movie watching for the mood, I'd skip the Matrix, that's post-apocalyptic Man VS God and Man VS Reality, not really cyberpunk.

Watch Freejack, Johnny Mnemonic. There's a few other movies out there, including a 1984 ripoff staring David Carradine that I can't remember the name of any more.

Cyberpunk in Night City is a LOT different than these fucking faggot gay space communism furry fucks are spouting off about. They'd all live in a Beaverville.

Have to admit, I'm looking forward to this game.

Pissy why? this is practically standard procedure now, Ubisoft does it every time and no one say anything

I always recommend that if you want to start with cyberpunk you go to the source aka Neuromancer and you go up from there, Shadowrun is a good place with tons of materials and even video games that are easily accessible, Matrix i never considered to much cyberpunk, more like post apocalyptic futuristic movie, is like calling Terminator cyberpunk is just not what people have in mind when you talk about it, then from there you probably going to end in Blade Runner,Rise of the dragon, Ghost in the shell, Akira, Deus Ex, Dreamweb, Snatcher (time to convince those Kojima fanboys), VA-11 HALL-A (have to shill for my Venezuelan brothers) and a big etc etc

Don't forget Snowcrash! That's a pretty solid book by its own merits too. Serial Experiments Lain is a great anime for pegging that visual aesthetic, even if it really doesn't make all that much sense. The fact that it does explore the Gibson model is why I'd definitely put it in any list, alongside it being only about twelve episodes long.

Oh the whole "Oh lookie, we haven't finished the game and now we're gonna make you pay for more content!" bullshit and oddly enough Ubisoft gets that shit thrown at them as well. Even if the DLC is good and worth the money for any game, these people still crawl out and bitch their asses about having to pay more as they want the shit to be free.
