Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

As I go on the game is climbing power rankings. The core story is like a good cyberpunk novel - I'm thinking in particular of the second Sprawl Trilogy novel, Count Zero. It has flaws - the shooting can sometimes be underwhelming and the driving is flat-out poor. But the good outweighs the bad. I haven't had any technical problems in PC and haven't seen my frames drop beneath 75 on nearly max settings (sans RTX) - although I have a slightly aged but still good PC with a 9700k, 2080 Ti (lol at this thing in hindsight but anyway) and an M.2 SSD, so you'd really hope I'd get reasonable performance... Some weird stuff with the frame rate where I get my lowest frame rates looking at something that isn't at all graphics intensive like a room with only two NPCs in it (the lows aren't noticeably low, though), whereas when I'm walking around the open city with lots going on it'll be a bit higher. Which I guess indicates there is a degree of decent optimisation lurking somewhere in there but it's been patchily implemented at best.

If I had to fix one thing it'd be the shooting - it doesn't feel as viscerally pleasing as something like Doom or Titanfall 2 (the latter I would say has the best-feeling guns of any game I've ever played, so that's a high standard). It's not total trash but it's the weakest thing that affects gameplay frequently.
I'd fix the melee combat, I don't know what the hell they were thinking. Katanas are fun to use but everything else sucks.

Knives have been a hoot for me. Stab/dodge to trigger slowdown/throw same knife to kill someone else is a blast.

With a slightly more intricate parkour mechanic (wallrunning, in particular, since the double jump provides some of the feel I was hoping for), an agile blade build would've been incredible.

While lack of meaningful choices is yet another let down, I did appreciate the choice when dealing with the Voodoo Boys. It's like the devs knew you'd hate these fuckers by the end of their related quest and so they just give you the option to just massacre your way through them for the nonsense they pulled on you and their general attitude. One of the few satisfying choices in the game.

Mantis blades are pretty fun. You can basically stunlock enemies to death and they can't do shit about it.
Have you tried out the other ones? Haven't used the blades yet but I've been using the arm cannon and it's pretty useful.

For anyone new to this game and having trouble with the firearm combat, remember to disassemble unwanted weapons, armor, junk(keep the more expensive junk to sell, either at the machines or at some merchant or another)into upgrade components and use said components to upgrade the weapons and armor you're using(This also applies to melee weapons now that I think about it).

And it is dumb no matter what game does it.

LET ME SEVER THE THREAD OF PROPHECY. Vivec Bouncer Lady totally fucking deserves it.
Games just aren't made like that anymore. Which is a shame, don't get me wrong. But if Cyberpunk 2077 let you kill important quest NPCs, it'd probably error so hard it'd delete Windows.
Let's pretend that the heist doesn't go wrong or V somehow manages to prove that the events of said heist were beyond his control. Let's pretend that the choice about whether to take up Evelyn's offer to cut Dex out of the deal or warn Dex about her actually matters.

Personally? I think that telling Dex is the more sensible choice and screwing him over would've been bad for V. Yes, backstabbing each other is not uncommon (this is Night City we're talking about here), but as their first big job, they might as well be waving a huge sign in neon letters to the other fixers that says 'I will double-cross you the first chance I get'. The consequences in the long-term far outweigh the benefits in the short-term, ESPECIALLY considering what V and Jackie were tasked with stealing.
Its really sad how none of the first act matters in what you do.

I liked the old way where T-Bug gets her fucking skull blown out by Dex and you get betrayed. Honestly, I think the heist should have gone fine, but someone in Arasaka set you up and you have to find out who while getting revenge on Dex and exploring why you were betrayed. That's more interesting and less predictable than 'heist goes tits up'. That way you can have your choices here actually effect things. Maybe even Jackie sold you out which is why he never got clipped. You and T-Bug were just the fucking stooges.

Lmao at the fanbois even here trying to find excuses why this shitty unfinished game is good.
This is the worst bait in this thread
Cut content or shit being saved for dlc/online is starting to be discovered

Just skip to around 3mins
Remember, a lot of this will probably be released as free DLCs ala 'The Witcher 3'. Unless CD Projekt changed their DLC policy and went like every other AAA studio. They typically don't sell small add-ons like a mansion or clothes and stuff.

But clothing customization is SORELY needed. A better wardrobe UI for sure.

Initial thoughts on the game. The atmosphere is the best I've seen in any game and the assets and art composition are also top notch and among the best I've seen. Who knows how much time has been spent texturing the coffee mugs? The one major complaint I have about the art direction is that many of the characters look bulky and unnatural but I can't think of a game which doesn't have some flaw in this department.

The story is also really good and keeps me hooked, but I'm a sucker for this genre so maybe its not that great. It does have a few missed opportunities though. Like Jackie should have been a long time friend to contrast with Johnny Silverhand. Or the big reveal at Kopaki or whatever Plaza was the perfect opportunity for a masterful setup from the villain but so far it seems to be a confusing accident that they were there when the big boss gets murdered. Oh and Keanu acts kinda wooden.

More complaints. The Origins thing is disappointingly perfunctory compared to what they were implying. Your backstory is just a very short mission and a few dialogue choices and thats it from what I've seen, I'm especially disappointed by how short I read the main story is going to be. I would rather them tone down some of the side content and use the resources to bulk up the main entree. You can totally tell they've had to skimp out on a lot of what they were planning for one thing a lot of the assets are simplified from what they showed in the demos. By far the biggest bug I've noticed is the animations where characters will simply pop around and float a bit when moving. Its slight but a constant presence. The kowtowing to the SJWs in the character creation is kinda weird and it really doesn't do much except add a little funny cringe to a serious atmosphere. Its minor sure, but its just going to embolden the morons to demand even more in the future. And they're still whining anyway. Even if it just took a microsecond it would be a microsecond better spent texturing a cigarette box or something.

One thing that bothers me for some reason is the generous backpack simulation. I know the style is inherited from other games but it seems weird to me to carry around an arsenal when there is an in game justification for so many other mechanics.

Stylistically I'm also surprised how much they went for UI choices that take you out of the action when the general trend as been toward in action seamless UIs.

If any of you are about to embark on the sidequest "the hunt" I offer you the following.
Please take them.

Edit: The juxtaposition of my image choices is unfortunate.

I played Corpo and its implied Jackie was a long time friend there, you start out knowing and trusting him and he has your back the whole time. The sequence afterword was mostly you starting over as a freelancer with him helping you out.

So, I had a bit of a surprise.

A friend gifted me RDR2 and GTA-V told me to play them for a few hours, then go back to Cyberpunk.

RDR2 is a couple years old. GTA-V is even older. Sure, it's Rockstar (which to me means a certain level of quality) but holy shit.

My friend reminded me that CDProjekt Red is NOT a handful of drunken Slavs any more, they're a AAA company now with all the resources and cash flow.

They also reminded me that Pondsmith was supposedly working this the whole time.

It didn't ruin my fun, but it did really show me quite a bit that I was willing to give a pass on because of reasons.

Character models, traffic (foot and vehicle) pathing, really standing out once I'd taken a look at a more modern game with traffic patterns baked in. (Bethesda games you're lucky if the NPC's don't get stuck half way into the wall when they sneeze), weapons and cybernetics really annoy me.

The chrome is REALLY bugging me. I mean, for fuck's sake, there's all kinds of shit that should be in there, but there isn't. It pisses me off bad enough that I can't check out my character in 3rd person, but when you get cybereyes you can't get fucking chromed up? Can't choose the type and textures of your cyberarms? WTF? Yeah, a stealth guy would go with RealSkin(TM), but a fucking Samurai would go with fucking chrome or gold laminate. The amount of cyberware and the type doesn't seem to do anything, despite with the fact taht cyberpunk asks the question: "Are we losing our humanity to technology?" (contrary to the fucking troon lines of it being freeing) No tracking of your humanity score as far as I could tell. As far as I can tell (And I'm past the Animals section and have cleared 2 of the regions of side-jobs) I can load up on all the chrome I want and nobody worries and I look like a normal person.

I can see the glitches more and more, thanks to my asshole friend.

I get the feeling that they really bit off more than they could chew.

Cyberpunk's AI is certainly weaker than Rockstar's games, but they've had years of patches and also have their own flaws. I think people really forget that outside of the glowing reviews, people were getting pretty sick of the Rockstar formula by the time RDR2 came out. GTA V's AI was also a massive step down from IV's.

Has anyone attempted the races? I can't imagine doing that in this game as that would be pure fucking misery.

Also, you have to remember, this is their second AAA title outside of 'The Witcher 3'. And 'The Witcher 3' exploded beyond their expectations. So everyone wondering why people are giving it a pass or being more lenient is because of this. Ubisoft, EA and Rockstar have been at the AAA game for a VERY long time. CD Projekt Red doesn't have all that much AAA experience under their belts.

The last Rockstar game I played prior to this was the one with the black dude where the fat-ass in the back of the car orders like 9 billion fucking things to jam in his maw and then yells at me about not driving fast enough.

Thing is, morphable character meshes were a thing that long ago and, well, it's starting to feel like maybe video games are going backwards in every fucking section. AI is complicated, I get it, but if they put as much effort into AI as they do making sure nobody is offended then the AI would probably be discussing philosophy with you. Back right after Doom 2 the game Mercenaries had locational hit boxes, I remember that.

It's weird, the more I was playing those old games the more irritated I was getting with Cyberpunk.

Is that weird?

EDIT: One thing I've found funny is a pistol or a SMG/Assault Rifle with the smartgun link. You just raise the inner pip above their heads (off to the side if they're hiding behind something) and keep popping them in the head. Just "tak tak tak" and seeing "headshot headshot headshot" and they fall over dead.

Does anyone know if doing certain side jobs/gigs affects your interactions with characters? I'm pretty much just doing whatever for whoever for cash.

Pretty much. There's tons of conversations to be had about the game's structural, intrinsic shortcomings, and I might type up a post with all my gripes, but the bugs I've encountered haven't been as bad as I'm used to in Bethesda games (as in, entire questlines straight up breaking) and I really didn't expect to be able to interact with NPCs on the street or play a shitton of minigames like others seemed to. I expected The Witcher 3 but cyberpunk and the game is that. They do deserved to be raked over the coals for the last gen ports and their marketing campaign, but it doesn't really affect the quality of the actual game for me.
