Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

It's the city of dreams, and I'm a BIIIG dreamer.

I almost spunked myself when I saw the trailer. It's so incredibly detailed and dense with stuff and apparently all in-engine footage. And the demo was running in 4K on an i7 and GTX 1080 (albeit only at 30fps).

Given that CDPR do optimise their graphics fairly well (Geralt's hair notwithstanding), I suspect I might even be able to max it at 4K on a Ryzen 1600 and GTX 1080 Ti. No upgrades in my future.

Also, there's semi-confirmed speculation that there will be a Ciri cameo in the final game.

I'm guessing an initial release date of Summer 2019 but maybe pushed back once or twice. Either way, I really, really, want to get my hands on it.

As regards this autism about augmentation making you go psycho as being transphobic, I wish people like that would fuck off. It's nothing to do with transgenderism and if augs like the whole front of your face (as in the trailer) are a thing in CP77 I dare say sex change operations will be fairly routine and far better than current stink ditch construction with bowel methods.
 
If it reminds you of GTA V, that's actually a good thing, because that means the trailer perfectly indicated the game's location... which is Southern California. Furthermore, a city of the future wouldn't just have nothing but futuristic buildings (unless it was entirely destroyed beforehand) - there'll always be a layer of old architecture alongside newer skyscrapers, just like in actual cities.
In William's defense he has done Southern California in both a cyberpunk style (the Bridges Trilogy is split between the states of SoCal as LA sprawl and NoCal as San Francisco) and in a more techno-thriller style (Blue Ant series).

His cities in the Bridge Trilogy were pretty much all old buildings. In fact, the titular Bridge is the Golden Gate Bridge, which was damaged in a quake and shut down to traffic. A bunch of bums, fugatives and other vagrants immediately moved on to the bridge and started an anarchist city state that is only rarely interfered with by the NoCal authorities. And one of the books (Virtual Light) was ultimately about stopping a plan to replace most of the San Francisco real estate including the bridge with new matter printer grown buildings. So I doubt Gibson got sassy because old buildings.

If I had to guess his comment is more rooted in his portrayal of Southern California as a dismal place filled with vapid burnouts + ratrace Hollywood. As opposed to GTA which presents it more as a plastic place filled with wannabes + vapid Hollywood.

So this is an old man yelling at the kids on his lawn moment for him.

You gotta ask yourself, do you really need three meals a day? Can you possibly replace one or all of them with Raman/Peanut Butter/ Rice/ Beans? Being PC master race is a commitment, and not everyone is ready for that.
 
After the trailer was released, a bunch of autists on /v/ complained that Cyberpunk 2077 was too bright for them and reminded them of GTA V. They cited William Gibson, who also didn't like it and compared it to GTA.

My similarly :autism: personal opinion on such complaints:
  • If it reminds you of GTA V, that's actually a good thing, because that means the trailer perfectly indicated the game's location... which is Southern California. Furthermore, a city of the future wouldn't just have nothing but futuristic buildings (unless it was entirely destroyed beforehand) - there'll always be a layer of old architecture alongside newer skyscrapers, just like in actual cities.
  • "Always night and rainy" cyberpunk settings are pretty much a cliché - it's great CD Projekt Red is not following stereotypes. Besides, SoCal isn't the rainiest place on Earth, is it? Doubly so in a cyberpunk future, where it's probably even more of a desert than now.
  • A dystopian setting doesn't have to be blatantly unappealing to be dystopian. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a good example of that - the world of 2027 is very stylish and beautiful; a future I'd definitely want to live in. Once you look closely, though... well, it's quite fucking awful. And that's great!

I think if these settings are just on-the-face terrible and like one step away from being Skull City from The Terminator, you're leaving a lot of storytelling value on the table. If there's a glossy coating that makes it seem appealing at first glance, and then underneath you see how the system that holds things up treats everyone as disposable, but presents this shiny possible future that only a tiny sliver of people can have, you can see how more people just knuckle under and try to accept the way things are.

So having a shiny, glossy world that works like a tarp thrown over a shit-tastic world is streets ahead of a world where everything is bad everywhere, forever.
 
I'm sure they will have dynamic weather anyway as it is becoming a standard feature in most open world games, so it is silly to get caught up on the sunlit trailer. Just as certain there will be more traditional cyberpunk weather in the final product every few day/night cycles.

It's straight from the RP book. Its the idea of replacing more and more of your humanity with chrome and the impact that has on your consciousness as a human accepting a new body. Even Eclipse Phase which is basically 'you died? Pop out your stack and put it into a new body' switching has a grace period in which you could go absolutely mad from it.

Also, taking a non English speakers words out of context as well and twisting them to suit their transphobic agenda shit. I mean, these fucks go on and on about how you need to be empathetic to minorities or whatever and gloss over the fact that this dude didn't speak English as his first language.

What I can hate is how it's very likely that the presence of enemy levels and damage numbers means the gameplay will be a bulletsponge-fest.

What's your guy's most hyped part of the game so far? I think the design of cars and humans is great, and the sound effects seems to be very fitting, aside from the laser rifles I heard in the trailer (kinda small/tinny sounds imo)

A large, huge part of 'Cyberpunk' is beauty over the veneer of ugliness. That there's this glorious future, except its out of reach of nearly everyone, where the elites have their boots on the neck of the others. Like throwing an oriental rug over a decaying corpse. That the elites will do anything to stay in power and throw scraps to those down below. It also possesses elements of trans-humanism, what it means to be human and where does the flesh end and the chrome begin, and so on.

The fact that its bright and sunny is irrelevant and makes things all the more oppressive. Because it doesn't matter how cheery it is, it's a lie. You know, like they were saying in the trailer.

But whatever, I don't care. CD Projekt does what it wants and I don't really care about the screeching of autistic faggots that a sun exists.

Like @Guardian G.I. said, the dreary srtting of cyberpunk is cliched that the sunny look is a fresh breath of air. The idea of a golden turd for a city where looms appealing on the outside and shit on the inside flies over the heads of screeching spergs.

Far as autism goes over Cyberpunk 2077, autism rears its head in when Cyberpunk 2077,s twittee praises Polygon. Said praise is a Tenacious D reference.
