Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

It definitely sounds like the vision presented in the earlier advertising has been cut down substantially

Not that a more streamlined story can't work, but the problem is that the game has to lean on the main character's personality more, and just like with the Witcher series I'm not entirely sold on this one

I was hoping for somewhat of a more standard RPG experience. Sounds like the plot is heavily forced into you being a merc. There are so many interesting paths someone could take in the universe from what I see in the tabletop. I feel limited, though I did enjoy the Witcher trilogy so I doubt this is going to be a complete disaster.
This is an inherent difference between table top roleplaying and video game roleplaying that will not be overcome for a very long time. Honestly I think video game RPGs would do better to stop trying to be table top roleplaying. At best they can offer a very feeble, generic version of the kind of in-depth reactivity to tons of character options tabletop can give you. They're better off going the Witcher way and having a pre-defined character with a game that allows multiple interpretations of said character. I know that's an unpopular opinion though.

So, another interesting news popped up. Apparently depending on the players weapon skills you'll be getting different animations for your guns. I guess what that implies stuff like reloading your gun faster or maybe using/activaiting spesific mods.
I've wanted that mechanic in RPG games for SO LONG. Like if I ever made one that'd be a priority, little details like that.

So, a few more news popped up about the project. The first is the devs saying how people will be able to play the game even if they dont have the most top tier hardware, second was that the player will be allowed to store all types of veichls or bikes at their safehouse, so guess it implies you can pull some GTA shit.

Oooh, GTA and cyberpunk mix. I like the idea, thinking like the world's so low on resources people have to steal shit to live a decent life. I wonder how they'll pull it off though.

My speculation is maybe letting the players hack certain vehicles if you have like a hacking skill/upgrade, maybe some having more high tier protection if they are a very expensive looking one or if say it belongs to a Corpo type.

So during another interview, one of the lead developers brought up wanting to give players some more freedom. While you wont be allowed to kill quest giving NPCs, the player can pretty much pull off a huge massacre in a club or even a church. Said actions wont be giving you a sudden reward, but the they dont wanna restrict players from stopping them going insane with their new tech or weapons.

Mildly disappointing, why can't they just go full Morrowind and give you a "you broke the world you dumb fuck, the game is no longer completeable if that's fine with you continue, or else reload"
The best part was that was a lie. You only needed 1 character alive to complete the plot, you could murder everyone else and complete the game still.

I think I'm too easy on this game because we don't get many potentially good story based games anymore. But at the same time it seems silly to think this was going to be a tabletop-like game. Morrowind was a different story and a very different type of RPG, also the mechanics they had available were very different back then.

This isn't really about the game but i swear to god i've seen YongYea make the same video about cyberpunk 10 times over. The dedicated cyberpunk 2077 channels also strike me as a tad...pathetic? Shilly?

CD Projekt Red has happened to tap into two very autistic and dedicated growing movements in the gaming community, both of whom are basically correct in their opinions, but are extremely repetitive and end up just sounding like bleeting sheep.

One is the "fuck EA" crowd (whose living embodiment is Jim Sterling) who never STFU about microtransactions, preorder bonuses, and a million other perceived grievances. These would-be consumer rights crusaders feel like the world is ending every time a game company tries to squeeze them for something. Of course, CD Projekt Red is much more pro-consumer than any other company, so they hump their leg as a reward for that.

On the other hand, you have the "own the libs" crowd, probably embodied by American Krogan, who are obsessed with propaganda in their games. Now, CD Projekt Red isn't really "based" at all, but they're not actively faggoted like Ubisoft and company, so they get treated like a messiah. Of course, the media doesn't help this by going out of their way to attack CD Projekt Red. The last time a game really got going like that, which I can recall, was Kingdom Come: Deliverance, though it tapped into a "fuck the casuals" sentiment more than a "fuck EA" one, and it was a cult classic more than anything.

Also, unrelated, but I kind of dislike all the retro 1980s throwback stuff cyberpunk is mired in. I can see the appeal for those who want it, but a relevant cyberpunk world would be more like Watch_Dogs... I mean, cyberpunk was meant to reflect the time it was created in. Since then, they've just stuck to that formula instead of updating it.

All of these gaming news channels on youtube seem to be run by spergs. Hell two of the biggest ones (Jim and Jeremy) both have threads here. The one channel that looked decent was UpperEcholenGaming but he has since defaulted to the same bullshit as everyone else.

I personally don't mind the retro aesthetic. Not because i have a boner for the 80s but because i generally prefer that blocky, sharp, mechanical look over the smooth, featureless designs you actually see now. The modern Deux Ex games generally do a pretty good job at balacing the two out. With that being said i don't really think cyberpunk 2077 is going for that retro, 80s aesthetic. It's all very bland and generic. If you look at the official art and compare it to like a generic cyberpunk landscape some artist has in his portfolio you would not be able to tell the difference.

On a side note. I am curious to see what the hell the multiplayer for this game will be. Personally i think anything less than a full co-op mode will be a total let down but knowing the fanbase even if it is just shitty counterstrike people will probably sing it's praise to high hell.

Game company reps are on like a 3 release lag so CDPR would have to release multiple huge stinkers for people to stop praising them to the heavens, which seems unlikely.

Although I suppose by that logic they're still riding that Witcher 1 lightning in a bottle. Which is probably a stretch to suggest.

Problem is even if they went for 80's retro aesthetic it wouldn't really stick out. While CP77 was in the works, many games already used the concept with examples like: Ruiner, the 3 Shadowrun games, Observer and even the recent Katana Zero as examples. So, would be a rather hard thing to make CP77 retro 80's aesthetic not to look generic or bland.

As for the multiplayer, I believe like last year they were talking about how they wanted to do CO-OP stuff in the vain off like AC Unity where there are missions/quests that players can do with others. But, I think it got scrapped later on.

Well the Witcher games and I think the whole GoG thing also helps people have a good opinion on 'em.

I actually disagree here. Neither of the games you mentioned (except Observer from what i've seen) go hard with the 80's vibe. Ruiner mostly chases the Akira aesthetics, which i would say is a lot more punk than cyber and similarly to Akira leans more on the Japanese aesthetic than anything specifically 80s. The 3 Shadowrun games i would say fall into the same generic cyberpunk looks as Cyberpunk 2077. Observer i think is the only one that has a distinctly 80's aesthetics but it's only 1 minor indie horror title.
