Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

The most anticipated game of the century everyone XD
The amount of cock sucking and "patches will save this game, Witcher 3 was buggy as hell at launch" can't save this game when normal people end up dropping 60 bucks on an overhyped pile of shit when money is likely tight due to lockdown fuckery.

not only that but iirc witcher 3 allowed you to save the game, this one is being pulled from consoles. Some people may be placated by promises after youve paid for a good but for many, hopefully most, laying down money and only getting the promise of an actual playable game is just unacceptable no matter the likelihood below a 100 percent guaranteed outcome but even thats problem enough for people who wanted it now for Christmas presents or bought it largely because they thought they were going to get an actual game they could play right now.

i was actually going to get this for a Christmas themed weekend activity despite my not being hopeful of the game being as good as initially presented, could you imagine how screwed i would be if i went to a group of people i promised entertainment then and now and told them "oh woops i gotta wait until they possibly no mans sky this game in 2021

So just found this on reddit. Sorry if late didn't see it posted.

Reddit post revealing save files cannot surpass 8MB without corrupting.

Official CDPR Post

TLDR: If your save file goes beyond 8MB, your save goes kaput. The solution given so far is "don't loot too much, don't craft too much, replay the game when you beat it instead of trying to do everything. You literally can't right now."

Also basically confirms the New Game Plus promise was bunk from the start and probably isn't coming. Easy fix is to just use a trainer on PC I guess, but for console players you're (once again) fucked.
Don't you just love it when your cutting edge RPG that is supposedly the most technologically advanced game yet can't handle having save files larger than a PS2 memory card.

Witcher 3 was NOWHERE NEAR this bad at launch. I encounter bugs EVERY time I play this game. Its the most buggy game I've played in memory.
Got V up to Level 47 and 100 hours of play time (73 according to the save). Hurtling towards the endgame, now. Just a few missions left. Was going for a highly completionist run with all the side quests and all the NCPD calls. It's amusing as hell that next to no one has the Steam achievements for those. Like, 0.1% of players have the "all sidequests, all scanner hustles" achievements for each district.

I think I have my verdict.

Holy fuck, what a fucking shitshow. It doesn't feel like GTA. It feels like the bastard child of Deus Ex, Borderlands, and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. It's riddled with bugs and performance issues.

Pros:
  • The graphics are fantastic if you have a beastly rig. They put a lot of work into the looks of the cars, the guns, the environment art, and the main characters. There are a lot of moments where you just have to stop and gaze at the city because of the mind-blowing vistas.
  • The photo mode that helps you capture the aforementioned mind-blowing vistas. Nice touch.
  • The consistent aesthetic and use of mise-en-scene is noteworthy. They went out of their way to make the setting come alive. It wears its influences on its sleeve. There's some Blade Runner, some Demolition Man, some Fifth Element, some Tank Girl, et cetera.
  • The gunplay is competent enough, except popping heads would be a lot more satisfying if I could get a stable framerate out of this motherfucking pig.
  • Fucking awesome soundtrack. This OST could get you pumped up to play anything, even the shittiest game on the planet. CAN YOU FEEL IT?
  • The mocapped segments and the character interactions are rather sweet, and they convey the (rather dark and depressing) story very well.
  • Lots and lots of different ways to build out V. You start off as an ordinary hired gun, and by the end, you're frying people's brains through walls with your cyberdeck, cracking skulls with Gorilla Arms, or slicing and dicing with Mantis Blades.
  • Radiates pure 90s antihero baditude. Everyone drinks, chain-smokes, and curses like a sailor, the setting is obscenely over-sexual, the gangs are racial, and there's no political correctness and no filter at all. Feels like home.
  • It has a Porsche in it, I suppose.
Cons:
  • Bugs, bugs, and more bugs! Culling issues, LOD issues, sounds dropping out, sounds playing when they shouldn't. Over long periods of play, your footstep sounds may disappear (memory leak?). You may snap a guy's neck and hear that same neck-snap sound play over and over again from his corpse. Some things just plain don't trigger correctly. Weird physics glitches. Hitting stuff at just the wrong angle and having tons of force imparted into your character, sending you flying, shit like that. Sometimes, you'll encounter a guy T-posing, or see your own character T-posing through your fucking car. Really stunning, considering how long it was in development. Where the fuck was the QA team, or did they not have one?
  • The melee is kind of a bitch because the narrow FOV and the short reach makes it easy to miss.
  • The crafting feels like an afterthought in some ways.
  • The way the leveling system works is retarded. You can't level skills past the level of your attribute that governs the skill in question. Any experience points gained past the cap are wasted. If it saved them up and allowed the skill's level to increase when you increased the attribute, that would be fine, but it doesn't. The XP just goes straight into the void. This means you can miss out on a lot of bonus perks depending on whether or not you use skills that have already hit the cap for their related attribute or or not. Basically, the game discourages you from using your strongest abilities. Also, some skills are extremely hard to level, like Athletics.
  • Lots and lots of scripted sequences. Sections where you shoot from vehicles are on-rails and entirely fucking scripted.
  • Unbelievably hollowed out compared to what we were promised. No, there's no wall-running. Free-running in the city using upgraded cyber-legs to jump over obstacles feels like a consolation prize, and there are so many tall barbed-wire fences, it's almost like the developers are actively resistant to you exploring anything at all. You can't customize your vehicles. You can barely customize your guns with scopes and silencers. You have the same fucking apartment throughout the entire game and can't even get a fancier one once you've got some eurodollars. There aren't really any activities outside of running around and finding some skulls to crack open.
  • I remember when they told us that we'd have animated sequences for the implantation of all cyberware. Not true. The first cyberware you get, the process is an animated cutscene. The rest? You swap 'em out in a menu and don't see a fucking thing happen.
  • No way to change your hair or tats (except for some useless tats that replace more powerful cyberware in your hand/wrist slot). Your character is locked looking the way they did at the moment of their creation, which, in a setting where people literally swap out their faces and their entire bodies, is completely fucking retarded.
  • All of the cars handle worse than in Saints fucking Row. Even the supercars can't corner for shit and everything's drifty and unresponsive as fuck. Forza Motorsport, this is not.
  • What the fuck does Street Cred even do? Nobody reacts to you any differently, and nothing happens. You feel like just as much of an unknown at the end as you do at the beginning.
  • Lots and lots of pointless, mind-numbing inventory management. It would've been nice if they'd let us tick checkboxes on multiple items and disassemble, sell, or transfer them all at once.
  • THE AI IS FUCKING RETARDED AS FUCK! This is the worst AI I've seen in recent memory. Enemies with guns have no idea how to respond to being melee-attacked. Half the time, they just stand there like a dipshit and just take the blows. The difficulty settings do not matter because the AI is so stupid that it is physically incapable of challenging you, except specific bosses with scripted, laser-guided melee attacks like a fucking Skyrim enemy.
  • There are a tiny handful of godawful racing missions but the enemy driving AI is so fucking embarrassingly bad, they have to reset the other cars every few feet so that they're always right behind you.
  • Keanu Reeves is phoning it in. It's clear he has no real voice acting experience. A lot of Hollywood actors don't have a clue how to read a script into a microphone and emote at the same time.
7 out of 10. One point docked for bugs, one for performance issues, and one for all the damn features they cut.

It's not without redeeming value. The story is wild, the characters are charming, and the tear-jerker moments will pierce even the blackest hearts, but that sounds almost fucking perfunctory to say. Am I playing a game, or watching a movie? What in the hell were they trying to make?

In some places, it feels like a labor of love, and in others, it leaves you scratching your head and wondering if they really gave a shit. If they patch out these fucking bugs, it could eventually reach a more acceptable state, but there's absolutely no hope of it running well on last-gen consoles. They shouldn't have even released it for them at all. Mod support could lead to the community eventually unfucking it on their own, Bethesda-game-style. People who worked on Witcher 3 mods and are familiar with the engine are already hard at work trying to reverse-engineer it. REDengine is clearly struggling to make a competent first-person action-RPG. This engine doesn't want to do any of this. It's falling apart and bursting at the seams. It's about as much of a shitshow in that respect as BioWare's Frostbite games, except this is especially egregious because it's CDPR's own in-house engine.

How could devs with so much open-world experience make an open-world game that feels so fundamentally shallow? Combat is just about the only thing you can actually do in this game that requires significant interaction, and yet, the devs clearly want you to play this fucking game like Mike fucking Ehrmantraut and use stealth and guile instead of actually killing anyone; many sidequests penalize you for not using stealth, with your fixer chiding you and docking pay for charging in like a bull in a china shop. It's supposed to feel subtle and Deus Ex-ish, but what it really feels like is that I'm missing out on experience points and loot by bypassing enemies. There's nothing to do in-between these missions. There are no bowling alleys, no golf courses, no dartboards, nothing. Hell, even the bars and restaurants just open up a vendor menu that lets you purchase and eat consumables from your UI as usual, rather than sitting down and watching an animation or anything like that. The consumables feel like an afterthought; lots of variety, but they all do the same fucking things. You can't use consumables to slow time or anything cool. There's health items, and a few small temporary buffs, and there are three categories of foodstuff; liquor, hydration, and food, and every item in those categories gives exactly the same buff/debuff. No variety. None!

I'm gonna rage for a bit, so bear with me. It would be one thing if this was just some ordinary game, but this fucker was hyped beyond anything else in recent memory, only to end up launching exactly like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem. I'm embarrassed for CDPR. I'm almost embarrassed to fucking play this. Fuck me. Seven fucking years, and we get a buggy, paint-by-numbers shitshow like this. I'm a firm believer in the principle that in order for a game to be any good, it has to have a fucking soul. It can't just tick some boxes here and shake some tits there and claim it's crossed the finish line. It's immensely ironic that a game intended as a critique of capitalism and mindless consumerism comes across as drier in places than an Excel spreadsheet of CDPR's financials. CDPR self-publish, and yet, they made this fucking game as if their dumbass shareholders gave them a Christmas wish list. Games are not made by feckless suits sitting around in a boardroom and throwing meaningless jargon like "le premium treeeple-A title" at each other. Just about the most flattering thing I can say about this game is that they didn't attempt microtransaction wallet-rape of their audience, but when the result is just as soulless and commercialized as a mobile phone game, what's the fucking difference?

Video games have been sucking hard in the past 20 years because game developers have become fucking disgusting hack sellouts. Epic sold out. Blizzard sold out. Bungie sold out. Infinity Ward tossed their leadership in the streets, and then West and Zampella made Titanfall, only to sell their souls to Satan eventually. BioWare, too. CD Projekt Red employs over 1,100 people. They're independent, and yet, any game made by a team this large is going to be ruled more by money and politics rather than creativity. Diversity hires don't know how to do jack shit, except tweak character creators to force you to play as an uglier character and slip in virtue-signaling bullshit here and there; studio heads quitting and being replaced by dumb, mincing cunts who look like Trigglypuff is always a red flag. Indie games are hardly any better. Most indie devs are like Jonathan "Hookers And" Blow; pretentious twats who are miles up their own ass. I'm sick and tired of it.

Tantalizing, isn't it? This was two years ago. Doesn't it look like something you'd love to play? Only, how much of the rest of the game was even done at this point? Was this just a vertical slice, with the rest totally unfinished? This would basically be false advertising, were it not for all the "work in progress" caveats. The whole game is still a work-in-progress, even after going gold.

Anyone who pushes buggy, unfinished shit like this out the door after working on it for the better part of a decade should feel very humbled indeed. This basically amounts to the audience paying money to QA-test an unfinished game, and then, finish it on their own time by eventually modding back in everything the devs cut out.

You know, I never played the tabletop Cyberpunk games, or hell, any tabletop. Never really had friends who were into that kind of shit. This game makes me want to find a group and play the tabletop Cyberpunk out of spite, so I can have actual freedom and actual choices. Goddamn. Maybe this is Mike Pondsmith's masterstroke. Make a video game adaptation of a tabletop RPG that is so soulless and railroads you so much that you become desperate to buy his rulebooks and play the real fucking game.

The DPS counter is occasionally broken. Try clicking on a craftable weapon a few times and watch the DPS change right before your very eyes.

If you want DPS, the shotguns and other multi-projectile weapons are extremely OP. Mods that add damage count per-projectile, so some weapons are fucking devastating when you have four Epic Crunch mods slotted in them. I have 1100+ DPS on Nash's Widow Maker and 1300+ on The Headsman. They one-shot all but the toughest enemies.
Long, but accurate. I'd say its more of a six. Shadowrun is also a good Cyberpunk feel to it. 2077 100% feels like it was designed with shareholders and profit in mind. This was NOT a labor of love by any stretch like 'The Witcher 3' was. This was a game made by suites, only incredibly incompetently. It has the arrogant 'fix it in post' feeling along with 'they'll just buy it anyway' as well. There were a lot of losses from 'The Witcher 3' team and the constant restarts and mismanagment speaks volumes. I think they had to make the diversity hires come in on the cheap after they basically lost all their talent thanks to frustration and terrible, terrible management.

I feel like the problem is that they were going to do a mostly streamlined story. Then, someone in a suit along the way said, 'naw dawg, the kids love open world. make it open world.' And then all fucking hell broke loose. I mean, since consumer protection and stockholder laws are MUCH more stringent in the EU, they might end up getting an investor revolt over this.

Its hysterical they used Red Engine for this. They should have just fucking built a different engine. They had seven fucking years to do it, it is clear their engine DOES NOT WANT whatever Cyberpunk is doing. And don't hold out hope mods will save this. It can't have a save file larger than 8 MB, I can't even IMAGINE what spit and gum is holding together this house of fucking cards. There must be a lot of shortcuts just to get this thing to launch and run on a PC. And remember, ALL of their current dev time is going to be devoted to fixing the PS4 and XBOX versions. Consoles it shouldn't have even been released on.

I mean, maybe CD Projekt will just hunker down and convince their investors to let them spend all their time fixing this entire mess, cleaning it up, making sure it is vastly moddable and releasing decent DLC which will restructure and fix the fucking thing. Alternatively, I can see them just fixing the major bugs, getting it to an acceptable state on the PS4 and XBox One and just abandoning the whole debacle as soon as it is feasible with the least amount of embarrassment possible. You'll get major patches, maybe a shitty multiplayer mode that no one wants or asked for and then when it is acceptable, announce another game and leave Cyberpunk in the gutter.

If CD Proejkt wants to restore a modicum of its reputation, it will do everything in its power to repair this fucking mess. If it is totally gone and corporate trash, it will do the bare minimum and disguise all the bad press with an announcement when it is in their favor to do so.

Don't you just love it when your cutting edge RPG that is supposedly the most technologically advanced game yet can't handle having save files larger than a PS2 memory card.
And here's me, being a retard, collecting all the clothing so I can play cool dress up when these faggots are just like "Don't play the game, simple right?"

"The moment we start becoming conservative [and] stop taking creative risks and business risks, and stop being true to what we're doing, that's when we should worry. And I am not worried. Our values and our care for what we are doing and – hopefully what gamers would agree with – care for gamers is what drives this company forward. It's my personal horror to become a faceless behemoth of game development or publishing or whatnot. As long as I am here I will be fighting for this not to happen."

It's nice to hear someone speak honest words, isn't it?

EDIT:
Another thing, why do the mods to increase your health all have a body requirement? If you go into body, you don't NEED health, if you're going a scrawny bastard, you need it. Aren't cyberwear mods for this that...you know...aren't proficient in things? You might say that its a balancing issue, but Cyberpunk balanced it with cyberpsychosis and Shadowrun did it with essence. There's so much here that is garbage from a roleplay perspective.

EDIT2:
I have no idea if this is a glitch or not but uh....
New Project (3).png

I don't think I should be able to make an armor mod for 4 common crafting components and 1 uncommon crafting component that increases armor by 108. You know, just saying.

They break mod compatibility and they removed songs. There's mod guides to add proper widescreen and modern controller prompts, etc.

My only problem is that 60fps is broken and you can't finish certain missions unless you set the fps to 30.
The fps thing is why I never bothered to finish playing it. What a joke. I didn't buy a 144Hz display to play at 30 fps on a PC that can do literally 1000fps.

Which would be fine, if 2077 had humanity/cyberpsycho as a stat instead of leaving it on he cutting room floor like morons
You'd have thought the theme to 2077 was basically baked in with the system, like...seriously. I just find it idiotic they tossed it out. I mean, "Here's some cyberware for people who have awesome reflexes. You have shit reflexes? No no no...nothing for you."

It is kind of brutally ironic that Cyberpunk has an anti-corpratist message, and the game itself is AAA corporate trash shoveled out to consooom.

Bugs can be fixed. Unfortunately the worst mistakes they made were in the story and characters which are ironically also the best part of the game by far and one of the best of any recent openworld rpg game. Right up there with RDR2.

Johnny is a constant presence but at the same time somehow criminally underused. Hes essentially a story only character has almost no gameplay relevance. And for all his bark he really doesn't have any 'push' in him. Unlike what they imply of a living breathing person with an agenda he pretty much goes along meekly with whatever the character wants. Also he essentially nopes out of the last big mission depending on your choices. I mean what the heck this is (the) central character of the game right?

Also for a game about minduploading they do a sh8t job really exploring the theme. Soma had them beat by a mile.

Its just a shame. The story could have been a masterpiece but for a few wtf choices in the core themes that relegate it to merely being really good.

cyberpsychosis is transphobic no fun, sorry. gotta have a generic progression line.

Cyberpunk Red added body requirements for some.

The problem with the original Cyberpunk's system was that it wasn't balanced by cyberpsychosis very well, since it was based off a different stat. So you could dump something like BOD for EMP then just get an upgrade for BOD that gives you superhuman strength and come out on top. Its basically the same problem here, if you could dump health than just buy it BOD would be useless.

I finished it yesterday

Overall thoughts:
Its a good game, in certain areas exceptional in others lacking and i have no intention of discussing things in between. Launch has been a shitshow and this might be the last good game of this scale cdpr ever makes. If you want it to be a sandbox fps you're going to be disappointed, if you expect an RPG you won't. Its not GTA, its not Deus Ex, not VTMB, its Fallout NV combined with Witcher 3. The story and setting will likely confuse people because its not focused on repeating the same tired old cyberpunk tropes, its instead zeroed in on exploring the idea of rebellion and losing your identity. It sometimes looks and feels like shit because most times it doesn't. My biggest problem with the game is that there is not enough of it, I'm guessing that's good.

Very good things:
+ fantastic story with many choices and followups
+ great cart of memorable and well written characters
+ amazing city design, not just artistically but also from the storytelling perspective
+ great visual design overall, especially cyberware, cars and guns
+ many ways to build your character
+ sidequests mixed in with the main plot, an extension of the main story
+ ... as a result of that the game i as long as you want it to be, it can be 20hrs or it can be 60, if you want to do open world stuff then more
+ very good music both the radio and the original score
+ looks stunning ...

Very bad things:
- ... when it works, when it doesn't it looks mediocre
- technical problems of course
- multiple balancing issues
- simple/broken AI of pedestrians, cars, and to a lesser extent enemies
- lack of animations for eating, lack of unique items in vendor shops, immersive elements seem lacking
- keanu reeves looks out of place, even if hes acted out perfectly
- quality of life options in the game are also piss poor

Minor annoyances with easy fixes:
- ammo shouldn't have been as generalized, better guns should require more expensive and harder to find ammo types
- weapon balancing shouldn't have been tied to levels, each type of a gun should have had standardized dps based on its rarity, something more akin to fallout
- clothes should have had more standardized armor values, as it stands some players are incentivized to look like literal trash because it gives them 165.7 armor bonus instead of 165.3 on nicer looking clothes
- minimap should zoom out while driving, there should be a hotkey to activate and deactivate it without menues
- choking out enemies should be better gated off by strength
- there should be an option to automatically breach protocol low level access points, difficulty of BP should be increased
- quickhacks should use components to activate, same tier as the quickhack with different rates depending on a hack
- power weapons should deal less damage when shooting through cover
- there should be a button that makes you walk instead of running-exp gain for all skills should be increased
- game should differentiate between sidequests given by fixers and other quests (on the map), fixers shouldn't call you when you get close to a quest location, you should have an option to call them instead
- there should be an option to redistribute your attributes but not all of them at once, lets say you have to pay for every one individually
The balance issues cannot be overstated, and the lack of stat respecs feeds into other issues. Quickhacks are so powerful and ubiquitous out the gate that I have no idea who is going to switch to the berserk or the bullet time implants.

Another big difference from 'The Witcher 3' is that they tried to remain very faithful to the material in that setting but in Cyperpunk they just go 'lol we don't care le memes'. It feels like the staff from the previous game just left or since it wasn't polish LoTR they just didn't give a fuck.

It has to be the buggiest game I've played in the past decade as well. I boot it up and I'm always hit with immersion breaking bugs.

The funny thing is you're right. They do absolutely NOTHING with the idea of another person being on a memory stick. Is Johnny just your subconscious manifested and 'speaking' through a collection of 1's and 0's through a personality matrix and static memories that just happened to be uploaded? Is it ACTUALLY Johnny Silverhand who is taking you over? There's so much you could do playing with the concept.

There's also the more subtle theme of everything having a wireless component or being hackable. Omnipresent survillence, the death of privacy, manipulation by your enemies.....just tons of shit.

I'd laugh if this was the reason.

Ohh. I didn't realize that. Because Shadowrun is balanced around essence where everything has a cost and you just straight up fucking die if you go below 0 essence. Though in 5th edition there was the cool concept of 'cyberzombies' basically corps putting in SO MUCH cyberware people just lost their shit. Though that was basically unleashed as anti-mage weapons (Negative essence characters are REALLY hard to hurt with spells). There were also options for fully cybernetic characters except for a brain ala GitS. I still like Shadowrun over cyberpunk 2077.

Fuck, I gotta play in a Shadowrun campagin or something.

You can respec your perks at least, but it is a retarded amount of money, like 100k. But you're right. Bullet time and berserk are pointless, but you CAN mod in bullet time. I have 2 bullet time mods, one when I aim and one when I get caught. Quick hack is hilarious. Short - Circuit + Synapse Burnout + Legendary Cyberdeck to Spread to Multiple people + Spread Increase perks = 3-4 gangers disabled and/or dead, bum rush them with a fully automatic and silenced weapon to finish them.

I mean, you can play however you want, really, but quickhacks make combat a joke.

You mentioned Shadow run a few times today. From what I know there are a few of them on Steam. Shadow run Returns, Dragonfall etc. Any of them you recommend?

Still want a Xmas cyberpunk fix, might as well do it with a series that isn't complete shit.
