I tend to wait until long after a game has come out to buy it, but did the witcher 3 have issues on PC when it came out? I know that's pretty common, FFXV and nier: automata both had performance bugs in the early days of their steam releases and i think the witcher3 was around the same time.

It worked pretty well on release. Except for a minority of players who couldn't meet Roche in Act 2 and so got stuck on the main quest.

You are correct, on it's launch Witcher 3 had a ton of bugs, which forced the dev team to do overtime work to patch out all the bugs on the day of the games release to fix all the problems with the patches. Because of that, they added a lot of free DLC stuff to make up for all the bugs that got trough.

The free DLC was planned well in advance as a way to keep engagement in between paid DLC releases. Yeah yeah you PC gamers SAY you want huge standalone expansion packs like came out when you were kids but the sales figures say otherwise.

EDIT: And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Free DLC is free DLC. Just gotta remember why its there to keep the devs honest. Or they'll stop doing it.

I always found it funny, that before the whole "lootboox" debacle, DLC were something gamers whined about a lot. Even if it was DLC's offering lots of content, they would still bitch and moan about it.

Day 1 DLC is some nickle and diming bullshit, though. "We didn't quite finish this in time to go gold with it so instead we're removing the files from the game, finishing it between now and release, and charging you extra for something we originally intended to be in in the first place."

I'm unsure of Witcher 3, never played it. I'd have to assume there were performance bugs, though, since it seems like every big release is half finished and developers love to patch things post-launch anyways.

There were bugs but were quickly patched to the dismay of people that pirate it that had to download patches again and again, the final version come with all the patches and DLC

Lots of small/medium games have had really effective use of free DLC; hollow knight, dead cells, gungeon, stardew valley. that said, it would be nice if developers would just release a complete game, i hate playing through a game only to discover a continuous stream of content will change it every time. most games really aren't that replayable.

Well, let's ask ourselves an interesting question here: We know Witcher 3 sold well and CP77 will also prob sell gangbusters. But! Here's the funny question, with the controversy that Witcher 3 has and now CP77 does, how many pre-orders are gonna be just people wanting to "troll" or "stick it to the SJW's" and don't really care about the game at all. Either way, yes CDPR will make good cash and I'm actually happy for that, but at the same time it does make me wonder how many people are truly excited for a cool Cyberpunk RPG and how many are just buying it as a sort of "TAKE THAT!" statement.

As much as autistic sites like OneAngryGamer like to push that, I don't think any game has ever been notably successful based purely on "Screw you SJWs!". If it increases sales, it will be a small amount. Normies don't care about this shit.

As far as I can remember, 'The Witcher' was well optimized.

Also the reason CD Projekt chose Cyberpunk 2077 was that a lot of the devs grew up playing it under Communism. So I guess a bunch of Socialists telling them to do this or that might not go over well. I hope.

Because Uncle Ruckus spouts nigger a lot, so they cannot have that and also because nigger in their eyes is usually said by KKK-Trump voting-Nazis-Hillbilly-etc-hicks. Most of that IIRC was cosmetic stuff that the bug-hunters wouldn't need to contribute to in order to release. There were a good few months of nothing before Heart of Stone came out, I don't think it was about engagement at all.

Yeah, the DLC was Gwent skins, a titty costume for one NPC, and a bunch of other cosmetic things. Even the quest they added was clearly unfinished, and just throw together after primary development had concluded.

It is kinda funny how you get the rabid fanboys bringing up the free DLCs as some sort of crowning achievement or something. Actually, I wonder if I even missed those free DLCs quests.

Hey they brought in combat designers? This game might actually be good unlike the shitfest that was The Witcher. The gameplay was so repetitive and boring I couldn't finish it, the story seemed interesting though.

I personally did things to challenge myself with the combat like not use the shield spell to make it more fun. Happy to hear they brought in combat designers. Though I think The Witcher 3 was worth it for the fact I could do something in Witcher 2 or in the beginning of 3 and have it flesh out into an incredibly elaborate quest that you might not had if you chose differently or not played 2. Combat was meh but the way your choices played out blew my mind.

I enjoy the Witcher games but always found the combat to be bland so it's nice to hear they're actually investing in it for cyberpunk. The Witcher3 was terrific storytelling, but witcher2 was a lot slower/less interesting IMO and I would fall asleep while playing it at night so i never finished it.

I honestly wasn't a big fan of Witcher one, and two. Most non-openworld RPGs don't really appeal to me.

I tried those and while they were definitely more difficult, I still didn't find it very interesting. I know some people liked it a lot, but the whole feel of the combat in the series has never appealed much to me.
