In a state case, even serious, plea. You can usually avoid a conviction and jail time. Losing at a trial is the worst case. And again most stuff that goes to trial loses.

Federal... It's different. There's no deferred adjudication or usually much early time release. They have set 'points' of charges that give fairly specific max/mins per charge. So you won't get much or any time off for behavior at fed and you're going to get nailed hard if you take it to trial.

Feds also don't offer straight probation, so you want to plea for maybe a month. Anything you get fed can't be expunged or sealed. That's it. So if you really think you have a strong case, try it. It's going to cost you $10k+ and most that go to trial are rubber stamped guilty at fed level and you're done.
