In Darkest Dungeon 2 news, the third Kingdoms module, Curse of the Court, will be released on August 28th. Of course it features the Crimson Court Bloodsuckers.

What's interesting is August 28th is also the first Steam free weekend for DD2.

Is there even a point to those DLCs? The originals added lore and mechanics that can't be translated into roguelike.

Kingdoms is the strategy board game mode, so you could have mechanics like spreading the Curse while sending your heroes to bolster inns (purely guessing).

I might be misremembering how long past me took to "get" DD1, but I'm pretty sure DD2's early game grind is worse. In DD1 you can invest gold to unlock and upgrade skills as soon as the Guild is unlocked, which is important because it's possible for level 0s to have no position where they can use all four starting skills. You can also see all of a hero's skills before you decide what function they serve in a given party and which skills you should unlock. In DD2, skills are unlocked at Shrine of Reflection nodes during a run. You still have the problem where some classes don't start with the "right" skills (e.g. Grave Robber doesn't start with any stealth skill to activate Thrown Dagger and Flashing Daggers' conditions), but now you have higher opportunity costs for unlocking skills, and you can't see what skills a class has unless you use a guide. There's also only one of each class at the Crossroads, so if you've unlocked the Leper and want to try him out but he shows up with the Coward quirk? No Leper for you! And you can't store heroes with good quirks, you need to beat a run with them and give them Memories.

I just beat Denial and I'm pretty sure I just got lucky with Death Blow resist. Deadeye-Surgeon-Rogue-Ravager with the Breacher quirk and Wounding Words trinket on Hellion, and even then I couldn't do enough damage. Deadeye not doing much burst damage to rank 1? Inefficient Combo generation? No Stun clear? Probably did all of those wrong.

The Radiant Flame for the stagecoach is an easy mode that reduces Candles, which is a step backwards from DD1's Radiant mode which affected strategy (progression and risk-taking) but not tactics.

Despite everything I've said, I do think DD2 is fixable.

First, just tone down the asymmetry of the RNG. Just a little. For example, instead of location decisions giving +1/-2, make it +1/-1. A few tiny changes here would prevent Stress and relationships from death spiraling.
I know, old post, but it's still +1/-2. I have occasionally gotten +1/0, but I don't even know if that's anything I did or RNG or just a plain glitch. The Steadfast Steward's Update back in July changed up enemies and heroes and increased Mastery drop rates, but did nothing to relationships as far as I can tell.

Since the node map was copied from heavily inspired by Slay the Spire, it's worth pointing out that the majority of Event nodes in Slay the Spire have an option to just leave with no negative consequences. In DD2, as you've pointed out, every decision is wrong. Even a fork in the road will have party members vote for a node and get +1/-1 stress if you call against/for their vote.

Retreat can now be enabled at the Dam, a new mutator menu at the Altar of Hope, but I think it completely misses the point. A DD1 party that has to retreat from an encounter is mismatched to the dungeon or to a boss or miniboss, but that can be fixed after retreating and abandoning the quest. A DD2 party that has to retreat most likely wouldn't make it to the next inn.

Mod support for DD2 has slowly increased and there is now a playable Bounty Hunter for Confessions mode. There's also the usual grab bag of skins and rebalances/cheats, but I'm not (yet) frustrated enough to try any.

Another day, another Omen Seeker boob reduction mod that will get DMCA'd.
1756813594919.webp

This account has been posting AI edits of skins for about a month and the Discord trannies want them DMCA'd, but S-Purple has a history, making him the most litigious "victim" yet.

One improvement this mod has over the old boob reduction mod (now only available on Skymods and similar) is this mod changes the Dazzle skill while the old mod didn't. But this one has complaints about tearing in the walking animation.

In less retarded news, back in July Seal (BR project lead) reposted a standalone project that he describes as Darkest Dungeon meets Into the Breach, featuring the Ostvengr from Black Reliquary.
1756815157577.webp
(The "awful progress" on Black Reliquary in July was when they announced their reverse engineer Rick Gibbed dipped, requiring them to commission someone else or make the mod tools they wanted themselves. Private testing is still ongoing so I'm not sure if this situation has changed. Trivia: searching for Rick Gibbed on KF gets one other hit from 2018 about him trying to make a Demon's Souls custom server.)

The Omen Seeker skin is unlisted, but the animation was updated and it is currently still possible to subscribe to it.

I wish someone would lead with "I believe this is transformative and I will defend it" instead of "I'll take it down if they ask uwu" for once. Sure, it's expensive to back that up instead of folding and it's never an easy win even when there's actually a case, but I would be more entertained.

Can confirm, in July there was only a balance update to testing and since then it's just been bugfixes. The work has been going slowly, although the team does seem to have the final dungeons all planned out.

Speaking of the final dungeons for Black Reliquary, the lore posts on their Patreon are now public. They were originally supposed to be made public when 1.0 dropped, but they decided to do it early given the development delays. Minor spoilers are included like the lore of the Darkest-level faction bosses.

Who writes these? I like the concepts, but the prose is so purple it's ultraviolet. And Hexer lore is OW THE EDGE, I was right to write him off. And I'm not buying that the Thrall had a will to do good deep inside him unless he had, like, a secret 1% custom Virtue chance.

Blog post about my own estate.

1757154334274.webp
Closing it up. Naturally it's easier with mods to fight the final boss with only Reynauld and Dismas, but it's certainly possible in vanilla. Speccing Reynauld for Virtue chance allows him to focus on healing Dismas instead of stress-healing himself. Dismas' Crimson Court trinkets are usually the best for this fight just by themselves, and the set bonus is +45% Virtue chance so you could also try for a Virtue with him. Tracking Shot + Shard Dust gives Dismas a damage boost to outdamage Time Heals All in the first phase, but too much Shard Dust will tank his Virtue chance. I found one was enough.

How I used the classes I had (script here):
Code:
- runaway: 49
- crusader: 48
- shieldbreaker: 46
- vestal: 45
- occultist: 39
- judicator: 39

The Dredge, Exorcist, Wanderer and Janissary were added later than the others. I seem to really like healers who can Mark who don't do gamba heals, even though I still used the Occultist very often.

Some extra reviews of mods I added after my initial sperg post:
Dredge Fire Edition
The mech fits more into Black Reliquary than it does in Darkest Dungeon, but I gave in. Dredge Fire Edition is less faithful to how the Dredge works in BR, but is supposed to be more fun for DD, and has synergy with other Fire Attack mod classes. I find it awkward to position her in a party since she has to be in rank 3 to use her On Foot skills and to end up in rank 2 when she transforms so she can use all her Mech skills, and whoever is in rank 2 has to be okay with going to rank 3, and you want synergy with Fire and/or Marks. Her skills are very satisfying though. Annoying backline? Pull + Mark + Daze so they can't act before your frontline smites them. Riposte? Get tazed lol. Usually I have her with a Judicator or Bounty Hunter in rank 2.

Exorcist
Jumped up in usage since my last post. If I had him from the beginning he would probably have been in the top 10. A pity that only his Crimson Court set gives him bonus damage against Bloodsuckers, and it's not as big as his bonuses against Unholy and Eldritch. He also has a Fire Attack patch.

Janissary
If there are Crusaders there can be Janissaries lol. Rank 4 DPS who doesn't need Marks, or rank 2 support + melee. Basic but effective. Melee animation is weird and I don't know why he gets a 0 cost camp skill.

Wanderer
Edgy samurai. His deal is he has many ways to charge up his Crit chance to 100%, but after every crit he has a refractory period, unless you abuse his Forbidden Technique skill. I wasn't a fan until I used him to Immobilize a Crocodilian in rank 1 so it could uselessly spam Lurking Fear. He needs to be alone or with a party that doesn't mind moving around, so I usually had him with the Sisters (unfortunately they're not racist to each other).
I added comparatively few of these.

Dimensional Havoc
Oldie but goodie. A portal will invade the Hamlet, and each quest will be a single 20+ round fight against waves of mobs, some of which are adapted from Koala's Creature Collection with permission. I really like the quirk rewards - you can only use so many trinkets and so much gold. Doing the quests will get you Empyreal one-per-roster quirks (Empyreal Resistance, Empyreal Cloak, Empyreal Vigor, Empyreal Cunning, Empyreal Alacrity, and Empyreal Aptitude - but it can be difficult to make them go to the right hero), as well as "orange" quirks which are tied to killing specific portal mobs and can be given to multiple heroes, but don't need to be locked. One of the quest reward trinkets also allows you to farm consumables which give actually useful positive quirks.

Levantine Invasion
Black Reliquary backport/teaser adding a Vvulf-like invasion event. Very fun assuming you notice the gimmick. The BR backport classes do well.

The Manor
I wanted something to pad out the Darkest Dungeon, since it didn't seem right that even with an enlarged roster I could only traumatize up to 16 heroes. (Darkest Plus is still on Skymods but was removed from Steam for being buggy and not meeting the standards of Courtyard Plus and Farmstead Plus.) The Manor has rough-looking art, but it does what I wanted. Normally it must be installed at the start of a new save. But it's possible to use the online save editor to replace the Shuffling Horror quest with the first Manor quest, which is what I did. I only got the second Manor quest (kill the Archpriest) after doing the third Darkest Dungeon quest, which might or might not be intended. If you're using Trinkets Plus, you need the compatibility patch.

Ringmaster Boss Fight
Nice to have a single-player use of the Ringmaster concept. However, while the fight isn't difficult for the prepared (as are most DD bosses), it is arbitrary, more so than vanilla bosses. The "pls no modded corpse clear" on the Steam page hints at this early. You will also notice when going into the dungeon (a single fight dungeon like the Shrieker), you can buy anything except Bandages - because the Ringmaster opens with a party-wide 1 pt/25 turn bleed and has bonuses vs Bleeding. Cure skills still work (though it is actually possible for a mod enemy to disable them). You will also need pure rank 4 burst or DoT without relying on move or corpse clear, or keep the rank 1 minion alive so that rank 4 can guard him; even the Prophet allowed you to destroy the pews hiding him in rank 4.

The Ringmaster's Prizebox add-on mod is the intended method of accessing mod classes' Ringmaster trinkets if they have them.

Single Player Butcher's Circus Lite
Lets you fight parties of four in the Butcher's Circus aesthetic. Doesn't count for achievements and the opponents are based on Chogex's Fallen Heroes, not the Butcher's Circus implementations. I find this a more interesting way of getting Ringmaster trinkets compared to buying them or fighting the Ringmaster boss. But it's not compatible with Singleplayer Circus Trinkets (which makes them appear in the Nomad Wagon), it doesn't drop mod classes' Ringmaster trinkets, and Unified Circus Trinket Pool does not support it. Fighting in the single player Butcher's Circus also gives out quirks which only work in the Butcher's Circus dungeon and can't be replaced by other quirks, so even the new "positive" quirks are net negatives if you want to use your heroes anywhere else, which wastes Sanitarium time and money and is just stupid. I edited this out.

Talon Mother
loading_screen.talon_mother.webp
A package deal with the Falconer class. Send out a party with someone who has the Marked by the Flock quirk and the Talon Brigands will show up as normal battles. They are distinguished from normal brigands by their practice of bird-based necromancy, and they will drop feathers as proof you've killed them. You need to fight them at least twice in a dungeon for the feathers to be worth more than a gold stack. You'll also want either a no-damage/low damage stun or guard bypass/break, because they sometimes have a Talon Damsel hostage who guards them and deals stress to you, but will give you a stress heal if left alive.

Send out a party where all four are Marked by the Flock and the Talon Mother will appear (Youtube video). Ideally your team should not be too position-sensitive. Unless she summons a mob you really can't deal with, it's best to focus on her, because she can eat/magic/idk the corpses of her mobs. She also does Mark and bleed. Defeating her gives you two unique trinkets.

Wildlanders Backport
Compared to Wildlander Invasion, Wildlanders Backport is not as polished in presentation and the Wildlanders can show up in normal dungeons, which can be annoying if you're more prepared for the dungeon than for them. However, I recommend it over Wildlander Invasion because Wildlander Invasion uses the old, boring version of Warhawk Matron where she just sat in rank 4, while Wildlanders Backport has the version where she moves forward as she loads her different ammo types and will nuke you if she reaches rank 1 (Youtube video). Wildlanders Backport also has the Steelpath Matron.

Welcome to McHamlet. How do you like your modded estates?
(Taken from le Discord. Intended use is to ask how someone wants their first modded estate to be so you can tailor the drug.)

1. How strict do you want Vanilla Artstyle Adherence to be?
A. Indistinguishable from Vanilla
B. Adheres to Vanilla Strongly
C. Lax Adherence/Small Exceptions
D. Anything Goes

2. Is Crossover Content Okay?
A. Yes.
B. Yes, as long as it fits the thematics (Ex. Bloodborne, Castlevania, etc)
C. Only for specific exceptions
D. No.

3. Are Heroes Humans Only?
A. Only Humans, No Exceptions
B. Some Monster-esque Heroes, Resemble Vanilla Monsters/Abomination (Ex. Duchess, Trapper, Milkmaid)
C. Non-Human/Anthropomorphic Allowed (Ex. Warlord, Viper, Arbiter, Trophy Hunter, Vixen, Gem Hunter)

4. Can Vanilla/Other Mods Use Patches?
A. No Rebalances.
B. Only for Functionality Purposes (Ex. District Reworks to prevent save bloating, Larger Roster Size, etc.)
C. Balancing can be tuned, as long as its identity is not lost.
D. Anything Goes

5. Would You Like More Minibosses/Roamers?
A. Boss Rush-Esque
B. Only A Handful/Those Included With Other Mods
C. No Additional Roaming Bosses

6. Would You Like More Monsters?
A. Yes, even if they mechanically clash with Vanilla mashes (Ex. Bristle & Bone)
B. Yes, but they should be similarly balanced to Vanilla monsters.
C. No, but it’s fine if they are not frequently encountered.
D. No, I do not want any more Monsters.

7. How Many More Dungeons Do You Want?
A. +4 Regions: Court+, Farm+, Isles, VTide
B. +3 Regions
C. +2 Regions
D. +1 Region
E. Only Vanilla Dungeons

8. How Large Would You Like Your Total Roster Size?
A. Vanilla Roster Size (29)
B. Approx. 50
C. Approx. 70
D. +100 or more

9. How Many More Classes Would You Like To Add?
A. No New Classes (Vanilla 18 total)
B. +~10 (Approx. 28 Total)
C. +~20 (Approx. 38 Total)
D. +~40 (Approx. 58 Total)
E. More than +40 (Specify)

10. Would You Be Using House Rules?
A. No House Rules
B. Torchless
C. Highlander/Nuzlocke (Only 1 Of Each Hero Class)
D. Deathless
E. Other
F. Mix

Looking back at my first modded estate:
1. B - hence preference given to Black Reliquary backports, DD2 backports, and Marvin Seo mods, though I had a handful which aren't any of those categories. Mechanics were also important, e.g. I didn't want anyone who replaced the move skill.
2. D
3. Must be an original monster with a human form, like Abomination (e.g. Lamia but not Duchess or Milkmaid)
4. Trinkets Plus, Musketeer rework, Fire Patches and other utilities like dungeon generation. None of "Vestal Rework #1849"
5. C
6. C
7. Vanilla-esque dungeons and self-contained fights (e.g. Single Player Butcher's Circus) only. Vermintide is a crossover. Sunward Isles is weird because you're leaving the Hamlet to deal with another kingdom's problems.
8. C
9. C - I didn't intend to have so many at the start lol
10. A

Started a new estate focusing on monster/defector classes and no vanilla classes.

I use, among other tools, AI. No I don't care that you feel threatened by progress. Yes I have good reasons for using it. No my handicap/illness(es) are none of your business :) Ai art is just the latest in a long line of technological upgrades to make some artists panic/paranoid. in the 1800s they tried to ban the camera because its photos weren't "real art". They tried the same crap when computers and photoshop became readily available. "its not real art". Then again with CGI, apps/ipads and now this. Real artists learn to adapt or go extinct and what is or isn't art is subjective at best. By that logic we should also ban paint and go back to stone tablets. That is all I'm gonna say on AI art.
Only reason I'm adressing this is because it came to my attention that last time I released my "breast reduction" omen seeker skin, apparently a few vocal S-Purple simps (or mod snobs w/e you wanna call these) tilted and said some seriously hateful/borderline bullying bs about me on the DD discord (didn't even know it existed for starters, no i don't follow this community's drama & clics, like at all).
Know that no S-Purple assets are contained in this mod, so bring on your silly "ninjas", they'll go home disapointed.
I make/made these mods & edits to give other players (just like myself) options to enjoy what is ultimately a game, if that makes you so angry you feel the need to profess violence and threats towards an individual you have never met because of pixels, then I strongly suggest seeking mental help.
To anyone else still reading this far, have a great day and enjoy the game!
Feel free to use/modify my assets as you please, I understand how the internet works and that trying to control anything you post on the high seas is like Don Quixote fighting windmills. I'm not gonna throw a fit if you use them in a non-commercial manner, just give me a shoutout and its all good. /Peace

Has Dada committed to Copyright Retard War or will they fold again?

I prefer Dada's first skin, attached here for comparison, as the Belmont skin has much more apparent AI-isms. Honestly the original Omen Seeker would be fine if her boobs didn't wiggle independently in her combat idle, and I've mentioned before that her defend animation is also weird.

Attachments

While I am a fan of the Omen Seeker stylistically (to each their own, I respect the hell out of the original creator for going all-in on their design and having the wherewithal to stick to it in the face of people who clearly hate it for the reason of boobs alone), But I do also think the alternate sprites Dada made for them are really cool too. I like the Belmont inspirations, even if it fundamentally looks like a different character entirely.

I am all about options, and I'd have no reservation about using both sprites. Hell, using both in the same party, an extra skin or two can add some fun flavor to anything, my shitty DD let's sperg was replete with taking advantage of that, using it to represent different chars of the same class.

The thing is, S-Purple is a fucking autist and I have no idea if how defensive they are over the OS mod is because of them being hypersensitive over what they see as encroachment (considering recent things hitting Steam, that's a threat one can't fully ignore) or simply them going full retard.

Probably both. In the end, it matters little, I suppose.

I just really think DD is no place for coomer mods.

And it's fine that you think that. Other people don't mind it.

That's the interesting part about modding: any game that has readily available mod tools (or is as easy to mod as DD) will eventually see racy content. Whether you want it or even give a shit is entirely up to you, and that's pretty cool.

It's just obnoxious when some jackass sperg who is modifying DD because Red Hook has been incredibly tolerant and encouraged that then turns out and tard rages when someone modifies their mod. Omen Seeker is otherwise a pretty well balanced mod but I don't play the game to look at gratuitous giant boobies.

I agree (even though I have Duchess, Omen Seeker and Privateer, I just think they're fun mods to tinker with and create team compositions with).

I don't think anyone is arguing that the mod creator isn't a gigantic autist. That shit is a foregone conclusion.

A different retard fight looms.

Butcher Bird is a granny swordswoman uploaded in 2018. Within two weeks of uploading Butcher Bird, the developer Nodappjung had some kind of mentals.

Nonetheless, Butcher Bird continued receiving updates up to 2020 and Nodappjung is listed as an author (credited for art) for much newer mods like the DD2 Duelist.

Fast forward to Current Year, and Lucid_Tavi uploaded a rework of Butcher Bird's skills and parts of her code which are now known to cause issues (e.g. her custom journal). neIVIesis decided that ackshually what Butcher Bird needed was an art update, and said as much.

While neIVIesis undoubtedly huffs their own farts, it's downright refreshing to see a new (or likely "new") modder shit on Iris and Project Iron Crown in public.

If you believe Iris, Nodappjung approves of the skill patch, but not the art patch, though Nodappjung never responded publicly to Lucid_Tavi. It remains to be seen whether anyone is retarded enough to escalate.

I have come to understand from personal expirence everybody in DD except for literally 5 people are complete and utter knobheads.

Woona is such a odd case from what I have seen; being indoctrinated into being a furry; and being open about it in the old Moonlit Dungeon days.

Considering how often Woona gets ribbed for being younger than the other regulars, this raises implications, though I doubt anyone here is terribly surprised.

Anyway, Butcher Bird art patch DMCAs launched, though the workshop page is still public.

On one hand, Nemesis' art patch does look better, it's always nice to have a full four palettes for a class, and Nodappjung waking up 6 years later just to send DMCAs is very gay. (To be fair Nodappjung also finally publicly complimented Lucid_Tavi.) On the other hand, "you didn't tell me the right way that you don't want it" is narcissistic faggotry, and thinking the Steven Universe Pearl inspiration will have any bearing on copyright rulings is delusional.

Also, the worst part of the Before / After .gif, the dagger hand stutter, is an animation software artifact that doesn't occur in-game, and I would be annoyed if someone implied I was blind and retarded enough to miss an error of that magnitude in-game for 6 years.
