Considering how often Woona gets ribbed for being younger than the other regulars, this raises implications, though I doubt anyone here is terribly surprised.

Anyway, Butcher Bird art patch DMCAs launched, though the workshop page is still public.

On one hand, Nemesis' art patch does look better, it's always nice to have a full four palettes for a class, and Nodappjung waking up 6 years later just to send DMCAs is very gay. (To be fair they also finally publicly complimented Lucid_Tavi.) On the other hand, "you didn't tell me the right way that you don't want it" is narcissistic faggotry.

Also, the worst part of the Before / After .gif, the dagger hand stutter, is an animation software artifact that doesn't occur in-game, and I would be annoyed if someone implied I was blind and retarded enough to miss an error of that magnitude in-game for 6 years.

boy howdy I am glad i left all DD related things, remember kids this is way you gatekeep troons out.

I wish someone would lead with "I believe this is transformative and I will defend it" instead of "I'll take it down if they ask uwu" for once.
I got my wish. Nemesis' new "Somber" monster pack art patches (uploaded earlier on Nexus under the account DawnsMist) have the following disclaimer:

Disclaimer
"Somber HLM" is not an official Red Hook Studios product or product modification, and Red Hook Studios Inc. is not responsible in any way for changes or damages that may result from using the mod. Furthermore, “Darkest Dungeon” and the Darkest Dungeon logo are trademarks of Red Hook Studios Inc. All content in the game is Copyright Red Hook Studios Inc. All rights reserved.

The reworked artwork in this mod builds on assets originally created from another fan-made mod. I’ve made visual changes to better match the gritty, stylized world of Darkest Dungeon and reflect my own personal aesthetic. These edits are transformative, created for non-commercial, and expressive purposes under the principles of fair use, as defined in 17 U.S. Code § 107.
This mod functions as a visual patch—it does not replace or interfere with the availability, distribution, or integrity of the original work.Credit goes to the original creators—no infringement is intended, only creative respect and reinterpretation.

Important: If you abuse Steam’s DMCA policy by reporting this mod for copyright infringement despite its clear fair use basis, I will formally challenge the claim through the appropriate legal channels.

The official Discord had the usual seething declarations that the patches aren't transformative, but nothing worth screencapping. Doesn't rule out gayops being organized elsewhere.

Somber Koala's Creature Collection is more pointed:

Credits
Credits and thanks to Koala and his entire team for creating so many excellent mods that really enrich the game and inspire aspiring modders. He was very down-to-earth and granted me permission over Discord back then to publish my tweaks as a patch. Unfortunately, we no longer share Discord servers so I couldn't touch base with him again directly.

If for whatever reason, certain members of the Discord clan manage to manipulate Koala into retracting his approval, contact me directly and politely and we'll work it out.

Meanwhile on the eastern front of Retard War, the team behind the DD2 Duelist backport class contends with S-Purple for "most litigious DD modfaggots" by DMCAing Dada's Alatriste (Viggo Mortensen) skin, attached to this post so you can judge it for yourself if you use the Duelist. For comparison, the Belmont skin for Omen Seeker is still available from Steam Workshop.

Is there any path, however unlikely and retarded, for counterclaims, C&Ds and other such nonsense to become public?

I think whats facinating about the Darkest Dungeon modding scene is how both run of the mill it is with drama, factionalization and other things no less common with other common groups.

Yet almost everybody who didnt bail out during its peak; have had their brain and motivation turned to mush. Like in Skyrim its business as usual; VA's fucking each other over for roles; Arthmoor being a faggot. Big projects falling apart.

Meanwhile in DD; its more clandestine small groups of turbo speds shit-talking each other in this eternal rent free living space that is their minds. The kicker is DD is nothing special its baby's first "Dark" RPG that is held by bubblegum, tissue and duck tape. (Seriously there is alot mechanics that would make modding so much more enjoyable if they weren't hard-coded.) It is 9 years old; and yet things like Skyrim mods has had bigger appeal, alluad, and even financial incentives. Most of these DD modders that aren't S-Purple and Marvin Seo are gonna have a rude awakening when they realize they wasted years of their life for a game that kinda went nowhere.

I love this game, everything about it. But definitely never touching the community... Its full of fragile troons and demented faggots.
Ironically enough, they don't realize they are the spreading corruption the game loves to talk about. They're too focused on their identity wars to see that though.
I'm sticking to doing stuff on my own with this game. They don't deserve to see any of it.

Black Reliquary had a reverse engineer making mod tools to address this, but he bailed and they need to find a replacement or do it themselves. The funniest option (that will never happen) is if they brought on the Chinese modders who made the expanded memory client back when the official client only had 2 GB memory. Iris would explode.

I almost don't want the mod tools to come out because that means the Discord troons will get nice things. But perhaps it means more people will see their insanity for what it is.

Good news on that front, or bad if you don't want BR to finish, but the newest update to the private testing build added in two quests to the Black Reliquary itself. Of course they aren't finished and one of them is just the introductory quest to the titular Black Reliquary, but development is getting back on track.

From my outsider's perspective, aside from S-Purple's tard rages about Omen Seeker's boobs (and specifically her boobs, whitewashing her is fine) and collateral damage like the unofficial Kvarotz backport being taken down from Steam because of Iris vs Kaze's sped fight, Black Reliquary itself has been the least objectionable team*. But that's a rather low bar.

Seo is the only one of these guys who brings zero drama and literally every one of his class mods is top notch. No troonery, no nonsense, just actual genuine artistry. The Sisters in particular are intricate, tricky but incredibly powerful once you get the hang of it.

REEEE AI REEEEEEE
1760146150664.png

These are the same people who say $600 is cheap for commissioning trinket art, and that was before Terk "the cheapest" got drama'd out and I don't know or care whether he or the community is more to blame.

Meanwhile, full class art costs $800 to $1,100.
1760146422513.png

Someone might pay that if they have a burning vision of a class and absolutely need the hands of an artist to bring their magnum opus to life, but heaven forbid someone just needs visuals to attach their hobby trinket code to. (Nimert should also have used AI to go over their ESL but that's beside the point.)

I still like DD1 more than DD2.
It seems your not alone on that stance.

DD2 is an abomination and should not exist when its predecessor is miles better despite the jank.

Note to self: if I am willing to commission, contact Marvin Seo if possible.

Came across this video essay on Darkest Dungeon 2.

Good video but I disagree with Darkest Dungeon being a rouge-like or lite. It's an X-Com-like. The game is separated into two layers: a base building and strategy layer where you get new recruits, upgrade facilities...etc and tactical/mission layer where you explore an area you have limited information on and achieve an objective. The different estates aren't analogous to a single 'run' of a rouge-like or lite.
Although I think X-Com is harder and has more involved base building.

Zoomer editing aside, the video is fascinating in how bad the game is. It's doubling down on every bad decision it could conceivably make, while only appealing to tranny orbiters around the dev who have zero issues wasting hours per run. Like why the fuck do you restrict healing so much? Why nerf stuns to being pointless? Why not tell the player about basic game systems? Why have just about every system be as antagonistic as possible without a way to be balanced by reward?

The only system that the devs seemingly gave a shit about is the gay sex, that clashes completely with the whole Lovecraftian feel (though it is horrific in its own way), but even this is "balanced" by the characters going on suicidal drama if it drops low enough.

>Flagellant, the outright best self-sustaining hero with heals out the ass, with a unique status effect that lets him solo even the Act 5 boss (Death balances flagellant btw)
>C tier
Its genuinely hard to take even half the video's critique since its stems from genuine skill issue that he refuses to admit or he's using footage from outdated builds of the game.
That last part has been the bane of Darkest Dungeon II's existence, speaking as someone who's stuck to the game since the first month of early access (October 2021), It's spent the majority of its lifetime fixing problems that it had backlogged since day 1.

Dogshit relationship system that repeatedly stops combat and can even deny heals and buffs to specific party members? Reworked in December 2022

Dogshit Stagecoach travel that was barely interactable and slow as shit? Alleviated with the March 2023 build, an actual faster stagecoach toggle was added this summer with the first Steward's update

Combat system that heavily favored the enemy side due to various factors including bloated stat buffs, modifiers, and poor crowd control options at the players disposal? also fixed with the stewards update.

Poorly thought out path system that were just stat buffs/debuffs? (which is probably why he only listed Plague Doctor and Man-at-Arms as the best characters, they had a path that was just more damage) Each hero before vestal's release were given thorough reworks to their paths overtime (Leper and Hellion are currently undergoing reworks as of this post)

Dislike the entire concept of Confessions and having to play with only one team for the entire campaign? Kingdoms exists.

Even so, there are still problems built in to the game that persist to this day; the barely readable mobile-tier UI, grinding the altar of hope in-between confession runs being a total slog, loosing relationship pips because someone got pissy for not getting healed despite being nowhere near the heal threshold, the non-existent tutorial. I feel ShuffleFM's critique video on DDII gives a more thorough approach to the games flaws in half the time than the mic eating autist.

Given that Red Hook is already working on a new project with Unreal Engine (lol), we're probably reaching the end of support soon meaning all the games problems will resort to 'mods will fix it' at this point in time.

Like why the fuck do you restrict healing so much? Why nerf stuns to being pointless? Why not tell the player about basic game systems? Why have just about every system be as antagonistic as possible without a way to be balanced by reward?
Healing thresholds are all over the place i can give you that, some have no requisite, others like vestal's Divine Grace require you to be below 33% HP which is dangerously low for several squishy characters, either make it a universal <50% threshold or don't bother with the concept.

It sounds like he stringed different videos together, so it might very well be that the first parts are outdated, but still having the devs take 4 years for basic QoL implementation is pretty fucking bad. The devs care more on nerfing anything that isn't literal faggotary than making the game playable.

I was thinking about 2 more, since the longer time goes on the more my opinion sours on it, only to realize that Aliens: Dark Descent came out in the same year. Although ADD isn't a perfect game, it's not worth the base price tag with how unpolished it is at times. I think it has a lot of things I would have wanted to see in an actual squeal to Darkest Dungeon, namely a bigger focus on Crimson Court type maps, out of combat non-camping abillties, an increased focus with npc interactions in a dungeon, more complex stress mechanics and health damage that says between missions, more base management, and a more intractable map.
That and I feel like a rouge-like was just a bad idea for a more plot focused game.
Hopefully if they make another DD game after 3, they'll take some ques from ADD.
