Pretty much the only reason why I don't watch other detractors anymore is that ALT seems to be the only one that is actually having fun with it and laughing instead of just getting very angry at DSP. You're making it sound like this guy is neglecting his real life and mental well-being and throwing it all away in pursuit of DSP detracting. To me it sounds more like a situation where a few times he ended up losing track of time and staying up late 'cause he was invested in a thing he was doing. Who the fuck hasn't been there? Could be that I'm wrong and it would be nice to be linked the evidence or pointed in the right direction. I just don't see it.

He's streaming 20-30 hours a week, but do we know how much time he has to spend on his actual real job? Isn't he a translator or some shit? He's not working 50 hours a week in the factory and then coming home to neglect his family and restream DSP.

He might go a little overboard with it, but it's obviously all in good fun. If you think he's adopting his streaming style and catering to his audience I don't think you've ever watched a DSP stream or an ALT stream. They are nothing alike. This is pretty much like DSP saying RTU wants to be like him and wear his skin because he used DSP's office as a greenscreen background. Just a weird thing to take away from it.

About the faucet thing: Something we laugh and make fun of DSP for is his inability to use words correctly. So if you come in here and do the same thing while saying puzzling stuff like ''this guy is a huge weirdo because he took trips to Japan and talked about them'' then you might get dunked on for it. It was just a little throwaway comment that the guy then got incredibly mad about so I doubled down on it in another throwaway comment. Interpreting this as me taking it as a ''significant victory'' and it displaying emotional investment is very strange to me.

ALT doesn't move my 'Tism needle much in any direction, but one thing he said like a year ago I thought was really stupid: he said if hypothetically DSP had a stroke and died tommorow, he (ALT) would be able to continue detracting full time for years to come because of all the old stuff to go over and watch or rewatch. This is ridiculous. People tune in to DSP because he streams reliably/regularly but paradoxically is so unhinged you never know when we will get a Fapcident v2.0 or something just as crazy. Once he's gone the hype and suspense will be gone, no one will be interested in old shit. The only reason old shit is possibly interesting at all is because it gives context to whatever crazy shit he might do tommorow.

People tune into global weather to see if there's a big fucking Hurricane going on today, even if it's on the other side of the planet. They don't look up June 24, 2014 global weather (It's just maybe a few fanatics or professional meteorologists charting patterns). I'm not a religious person, but I think some religions teach you to not get attached to things, and to be able to let things go. If DSP croaked, I think it'd be a good sign from the Universe/God/Common Sense/Whatever you want to call to "let it go."

I have shitposted a lot on this forum and I've never spun yarns, if I've been wrong it's within a small margin of error that would be reasonably allowed for accidentally mis-remembering details. I swear on baby Jesus around summer 2024 I heard him say he was sacrificing sleep to be able to stream more and more. Someone in chat asked how he was doing it and that was his answer. It stuck out to me cus it's like... "why would someone publicly admit this, almost like a flex, this is embarrassing." And I'm 95% sure he was being dead serious about it. And you can be energetic/manic while sleep deprived, especially if caffeinated. He subsequently became slower to recall things, does verbal "typos" more (swaps words and letters around, almost like a drunkard), and is not as funny (though I guess that part is subjective). In other words, you trade cognitive quality for quantity.

I like PoP but I agree with this. I think he has internal guilt and insecurity about his path in life, and that's what has drawn him to the vortex. Agree, then I think there would be an autistic power vacuum where there's detractor infighting for a few months, which would also be entertaining. The way ALT was framing it is that he was going to be able keep going in a routine for years to come like it was syndicated re-runs of Seinfeld - nawt gonna happen. His content (or any other detractor content) is not the same as Seinfeld or friggin Gilligan's Island or whatever.

That far out? Probably 0 viewers. By then several more people will have fapped on stream replacing him as the META "fapguy." In 30 years we might be on a new version of the internet and youtube and other archive sources might not even exist anymore, all his trash content will vaporize into the ether, without a trace. The DSP brand has never even existed in physical media form (I don't think so, at least). To this day a lot of good bands have Vinyl releases for their new albums, just to put things in perspective. A Youtube channel filled with slop makes a legacy not.

Edit: to be fair I guess merch counts as physical media(it has artwork on it??), but really how many DSP T-shirts will have not been turned into rags in 10 years?

Is it? I mean...you opened the post saying that Phil sucks at game and treats his viewers poorly. Those are easily the two biggest things keeping him from being successful. Saying it's just people nitpicking and a-logging implies the problems with Phil aren't actually that big and people are just looking for minor things to complain about. And, uhh, speedrunning sucks, I guess? I'm not sure what that has to do with Phil since his idea of speedrunning is completing a tutorial section in a single stream instead of finding a way to drag it out to 3 streams.

As for what people wants, that depends on what view you're asking from. For a lot of us, we're happy that Phil sucks at games and treats his audience like crap, that's where a lot of the funny comes from. As for what his viewers want from Phil, it's mostly a parasocial relationship. It's probably easier to say what they don't want, and that's Phil insulting a game/show/person they like. Generally, as long as Phil avoids that, they're happy with whatever keys he jingles in front of their eyes.

If you're asking in a general sense what would it take for Phil to be successful as a streamer and get the redemption run he craves, that's a lot harder to answer. I think at this point, it's impossible unless Phil strokes out so hard his personality changes. I used to think there were a few little things he could do that would actually improve his streams. Playing Champions, getting into politics, going onto kick, doing drama streams. And some of those saw little bursts of success for his business, but didn't actually last for one reason or another. Maybe the one glimmer of hope is Phil getting into IRL streaming, but I think much like the drama streams, he just doesn't have the social skills for it, so there might be an initial surge of interest because watching Phil stumble around in the wild is new and exciting, but Phil would find some way to drain the life out of it when it just turns into an extended pre-stream of him playing with RGB lights.

He went from being a drunk retard trying as hard as he possibly can to speedrun games he has never played in his life to fucking Shifty Phil's Video Game Slowruns where he reads menus for 45 minutes then walks around accomplishing almost nothing until it's time to clock out. That shit is cancer to any type of viewer, not even the fucking dents watch his sorry ass gameplay.

His ultimate problem is this bullshit "Mr. Professional" persona he's developed that's sucking the life out of everything he does. He's gotten way too attatched to it and it's basically tricked him into being content with getting asspats from actual retards like Jayde for buying enough expensive toys, or having "meaningful, intelligent commentary", or for seeing every pixel and polygon a game has to offer. Meanwhile the in reality of the situation is that he only has a semblance of charisma when he's pointing at the TV screaming like a chimp over how bullshit a game is because he put himself in some absurd situation that not a single soul that's ever played it has ever encountered, or because he has to repeat five minutes of gameplay after he somehow managed to clip himself through the floor and die, or because he got lost in an area that's basically a straight line. Sure most of the viewers that type of content will bring in are gonna be detractors, but he's completely out of options here. The Casino gave him his best chance at turning things around the way he probably wants to, and he completely squandered it with his Mr. Professional shit. 2012 DSP is the only way he's getting anywhere at this point.

Atlus has one video from early on where he wasn’t doing his brrrs and clicks imitating Tevin. The vocal stuff is just a weird choice that he claims is not put on.
