Not going to repeat shit people have said so I'll give some unique-style suggestions:
1) Just like with the Boogie doc where he plays children's card games with his friends or when he goes to that staffing agency, you should include a short clip of Phail interacting with the wider world. Maybe film a short clip of him doing his "errands" on his day off like driving cat shit to the garbage dump or waddling at the mall buying TV dinners.
2) Ask his wife if she knows anything about his finances.
3) Interview Derich, Phil's biggest fan currently.

I guess the big question is, what's the end game for this documentary? I won't pretend I watched the Boogie one or know much about it, but I could see "a day in the life of Boogie" working well, where you basically just act as a neutral observer shining a light on someone and letting them carry the bulk of the content because there is something inherently worth watching that the audience isn't already seeing. With Phil...there's not really much of that. The most that he does when he isn't streaming is stay inside his gout mansion, order fast food, and play mobile games. Even on his "exciting" days off, he goes shopping, sometimes goes to the dump, and gets his hair cut.

The only chance a documentary on Phil has is if its an investigative piece. There's a lot of evidence already there. You have to be willing to do the research, follow the numbers, confront him with them and make him justify the expenses. You can't let him do the usual Phil thing of weasling away from the facts. You can't just say "So I heard you spend $5,000 in your business each month," because he can deflect or deny, you need to confront him with the actual document and make him address it. It's why, as good as Sidescrollers was, it wasn't a complete takedown because Phil could squirm out of the allegations or do his usual "missing context" excuses for a good deal of it.

It's not even a case of subtly guiding Phil to hang himself, you need to be direct and blunt. He always insists he wants the opportunity to clear the record and debunk rumors, well, this is it, an official, fact-based documentary where he can directly counter all the claims against him. Otherwise, it's just another pre-stream segment for Phil.

Of course, this requires Phil to 1: Trust you enough to ask those hard hitting questions and 2: Be honest. The first...actually isn't impossible, as shown by the Sidescrollers interview and the fact that Phil didn't realize for a long time how badly it was going. But I have no idea how you get him to be honest. But, hey, if you do, you could end up with a pretty damn good documentary.

Add to that if it would be a "Day in the life of Phil Burnell" you can bet he will do his utmost to restrain his urges to yell at chat, to guilt trip his little audience or (if it is SF 6) blame every loss on *grabs paper* bad netcode, mash jab, lag, top tier character, nothing i could do *puts paper away* ItsaGundam once said Phil can be mildly entertaining if you just watch him for a few seconds. And this is something that has been constant in his career. He put out so many videos with just boring stuff but sometimes he does something really funny or dioes a good reference. But it's a tiny bit in an ocean of...well shit.

What makes Phil so interesting is that he has build himself an "empire" of failing or perhaps more positively put an empire of bashing his head against the wall and the wall breaks at one point. TurkeyTom titled his documentary "A decade of failure" While true in some aspect (especially the failure to capitalize on his head start in early Youtube gaming) in reality our Threat title "an ever sinking ship" fits better. This is what you need to put out: why isn't he sunk yet despite a slowly shrinking income base? None of the "exposure" he got stuck around. He sometimes has this moments where you might think he gets a new breath. But he wastes it in seconds. As Agent Proper said: Give him enough rope and he hangs himself. Phil is his own biggest enemy. Most of us are just watching this shipwreck sink further and further waiting for the inevitable crash. It is in a way a mirror of our society.

Boogie has already said you were “misinformed
With all due respect, Boogie thinks anyone who isn't sucking his dick is misinformed. Mike worked with what he had and when Boogie received backlash, he did what he always does and changed the story. Boogie and Phil have a lot in common in this regard.

One can hope that Mike took away a lot of lessons from his visit(s) to Boogie's place. Boogie is an attention whore and desperate for any shred of relevance, but there were still aspects of Boogie's life which were completely off limits (Mike wasn't allowed to speak to Boogie's roommate and his ex-wife threatened legal action). Those two people have the most dirt on Boogie, so things could've played out a lot worse for Boogie.

I don't follow DSP as much, but Mike would have to gain access to the Snort Fort, interview Kat, Phil's family or Leanna to gain significant interest from detractors. I think if he does do a DSP documentary, then it'll be successful regardless due to how good of a PR guy Mike is. He was everywhere after the Boogie doc dropped and really hit the Youtube scene hard

Mike was asking similar questions in the Boogie thread before he visited him and we all told Mike to pound sand as we didn't know who he was or what he was doing. We assumed Boogie hired him for a puff piece but were happily proven wrong.

Best of luck to Mike in the making of this documentary. Phil is going to be a very difficult person to work with and I'll be surprised if this gets off the ground.

Hi Mike. What you should know is what sets Phil apart from Boogie and other lolcows in that he unironically believes he is this normal great guy who just happens to have rotten luck of having everybody hate him whereever he goes. While lolcows like Boogie and Wings recognize and embrace their pariah status on some level Phil in contrast has this giant ego and complex about being beyond the drama and nahnsense. He takes great pride in supposedly being superior to other lolcows. This among other reasons makes him as shown for example with his past dealings with Keemstar, far more paranoid. He's not called the Recluse of Renton for nothing.

Its quite the feat to get Phil to cooperate on any significant level in a documentary. He has to be convinced that an appearance will make him look good/ be a puff piece. The SideScrollers really lucked out. It had been so long with the softball Quartering interview as his last major appearance in the wild surrounded only by his fans he believed he could just say whatever he wanted like he usually does and go unchallenged. He'll probably be on guard after this. You might have to settle for a more TurkeyTom/Knudsen style doc.

It will be an even greater feat to get anything new and useful out of it...unless you get randomly lucky and he decides to drop some new lore about his m-wife's restraining order. He will purposely fight you to avoid talking about anything interesting and try to steering you to the same talking points he regurgitates every day. We make fun of him all the time but he is actually quite a slippery bastard when he needs to be and often sounds quite sane and reasonable to a person not paying close attention or of low intelligence hearing a short clip of him talking. Its only when you learn more about him and listen to him longer that you start picking out the dueling narratives, bending of truth, and other rhetorical tricks he likes to use. You're in for quite a challenge. Gl on getting out a good doc.

@mikeclum As several people have pointed out: Phil is a compulsive liar. He will lie about anything and everything no matter how small or inconsequential. I have seen Phil drop a pencil on his stream and 10 seconds later be yelling at his chat, "What pencil?!? I never had a pencil. What are you guys talking about?"
For another example Phil spent months crying about the bank leaks everyday saying he was a victim of Identity Theft. When his full debit & credit transaction history for the last 2 1/2 years was gone through and released people started asking Phil about the 10's of thousands of dollars of Apple Play payments that were on his account and Phil claimed that this person had been stealing thousands out of his account for years. Cut to the SideScrollers interview and watch StutteringCraig be stunned into silence when he asks about the bank leaks and Phil says that was all fake and never happened. Craig just sits there flabbergasted for several seconds before asking, "So your identity was never stolen?" to which Phil immediately replies "No."

Phil is a compulsive liar whose lies are rooted in Delusional Narcissism. This means he believes whatever lie he is telling you in the moment. An interview with Phil is completely worthless for actual information gathering purposes. It's only value is as entertainment from the perspective of watching his slurry of mental illness be put on the spot to churn and squirm for our amusement. Phil will lie about something as small as a pencil to something as large as publicly claiming for months that thousands of dollars was being stolen directly out of his bank account for years.

Edit: You would find more dignity, humanity, and integrity interviewing a verbally incoherent schizophrenic person on the street.

First: I do not see how this documentary would make any sense and add anything.

But if you want to read my opinion what would have to happen to make it unique and stand out, then you have to talk in person with Phil. Impossible. He is not like Boogie, he won't cooperate. What you would have to do which is the next best thing and at least in theory possible, is to talk to his old friends Howard and Rambo, his ex-girlfriend Leanna, his parents, his wife, his wife's sister Jenna, maybe some oldschool dentheads like king of hate forum and stream mods, and Derich. I do not think this would work, but at least one could try. You want to talk to a detractor? No problem, but what should this add? Not like the detractors' opinion is hard to find. I guess then it would make sense just joining a That Being Said podcast if they let you.

Phil will be paid for access to whatever is shown.

The Stephen doc was a legit doc, I hated the subject but didn't like him going into watching it anyway too.

I'm curious why OP is intent of being a lolcow Nanook of the North seeker with their time on earth? I suspect autism, but don't want to be rude because I have nothing against their attempts at documentary of these subjects inherently.

I would love to see a sequence where Phil is asked to estimate what the cost of the bank leak sweatyman.jpg charges total in that supposed fake real identity theft case, that he never reported to the police suspiciously undermining his entire cope about it, as he listens to the entire recording of it and then is given the numbers totaled up against his claims of that dastardly account frame job estimate from his recollections.

My suggestion for a title: "MASSIVE MEATY MAN #1: Phil Burnell's Imperial Life of Failure." You know, for the lulz.

Yeah lmao this "documentary" isn't happening now. Shouldn't have went public far too soon Mike. Also no idea why you are contacting people like turkey tom and moistcritical when they have surface level knowledge at best. People who have been in the game for years like Tevin and Agent Proper would be far better.

Just posting here tells me you have done no real research on DSP.

I am working directly with Phil and will include original content of his current day-to-day life.

I don't have a video with Phil and I discussing it at this point, which would be the only way to "prove" this to you all. But also there is no incentive to lie, and you can see my past work with Boogie2988 and make your own assumptions as to whether or not I would lie about doing a documentary which had Phil's participation.
Mike, bubie, this is not what you think it’s going to be. The vortex of DSP is super strong and a small faction of “da detractors” are severely handicapped. You will be flooded with messages about Phil being a pedophile and a scammer. The reality is Phil is nothing more than an extremely insecure, egotistical, self absorbed man-child who spent thousands on gatcha games and demands money from his literally mentally retarded viewers.

Speaking as someone who’s followed him since 2014, in order to cover his entire story you would have to endure hundreds of hours of his old footage just to paint a picture of how he came to be DSP. Part of the charm of Phil is this fact. It’s seeing the decline in real time but it’s a slow burn.

Another thing, DSP may be stupid but he’s not Boogie stupid. Boogie thrives on negative attention, Phil hates being labeled this way. Unless you paint Phil as a martyr who overcame difficulty and owned the haters, you will never ever be able to properly do a documentary on him with his involvement.

Like others have said you’ve already shot yourself in the foot by posting this here. Now you’re going to be labeled as a detractor and yet another person who screwed him over.

If this is true and this miraculously works. this goes for you and anyone else, don’t talk to Doody Streams or KingSlyTee. Stay FAR away from them.

No offence to anyone, and I could be wrong, but I don’t see the point.

Sidescrollers showed what happened if you do all your homework and are a decent interviewer: Phil just wriggles round and won’t be pinned down.
I believe Craig has called the interview ‘tiring’ and ‘a waste of time’ due to Phil ‘leading us round in circles for 5 hours’.

At best it will be like other documentaries/interviews.
Host: “What do you say about these piles and piles of evidence?”
Phil: “I can see why you’d think that it’s true but it’s not. I can’t disprove it, but it’s not true.”

It’s so exhausting.

(Although Mike, if you still choose to go ahead you can’t not talk to ALTinsider. He’s @Thatbeing_said on Twitter. He’s got lore for days, has concise points and is generally a great guy.)

We have enough in depth "documentaries" on Phil. You will offer us nothing new or interesting. Phil will never ever let you into his home, you could offer him $50,000 and he still wouldn't let you in his door. It would expose too many of his lies, how fat his wife got, how he lives like a pig, and probably show off things that would get him in trouble with the IRS because we all know he has committed both tax and bankruptcy fraud.

Stay out of this autism void if you know what is good for you.

One more thing - when Stuttering Craig announced his interview he received threats from ‘detractors’ that he better not do the interview.

These ‘detractors’ were later revealed to be a certain fan of Phils…. (And none of his threats came to pass).

So, you know, look out for this.

People love when Phil is caught on a lie and grilled for it, it's actually funny to watch him try to either ban or squirm his way out. There is a reason why he never wants to talk with anyone face to face or in an environment where he doesn't have the upper hand or where people can just cut him off instantly after he lies.

DSP has enough documentaries, it can suck to scrap something like that if you put a lot of effort but I honestly think it's not needed. If it's not favorable to Phil, he will just say "it's fake, they never talked with me, etc."
