DarksydePhil's 2020 income from tips (and more)

Cheers are that what Phil gets. When you buy bits you already pay something extra to get 1 Bit- so if you want like 1 dollar in bits you pay 1,20 or so. not sure how much twitch really demands

nice post!
I saw you mentioned this was before taxes and fees. As I understand it, twitch takes a cut from subs and cheers. Unless that has been accounted for and I missed it, does that mean that total is actually lower than it looks?

The cheers and subs mentioned in the OP are after Twitch takes the cut; Twitch automatically takes their cut the moment people pay for cheers, and I've deducted Twitch their cut on all sub money I've counted (Twitch takes half of what a sub costs, regardless of what tier that sub is).
-EDIT- @actually is right: Twitch takes 50% of tier 1 subs, 40% of tier 2 subs and 30% of tier 3 subs, so the calculations on the subs are a bit lower than what they really are. In other words: DSP receives even more from subs than what has been estimated.

But yes, the actual amount DSP can effectively use is always less than what is publicly known, since he still needs to pay taxes on cheers, subs and tips.

My understanding is that the cut changes based on tier, so he gets something like 60% of Tier 2 subs and 70% of Tier 3.

@DogZero, the fees that aren't accounted for are from Paypal. Paypal takes $0.30 + 2.9% of every tip. We could roughly estimate how much less by multiplying the tip total by 0.97. That would put us within a few hundred dollars of the actual amount.

The funny part is he probably doesn't have to beg the way he does. Odds are he'd get these kind of contributions anyway. He could have a better stream, a better environment, probably more viewers. There are plenty of streamers with less of a following who make more than him, and even with him ban hammering and pissing all over his audience they still shell out.

I wonder what would happen if he didn't beg for just like 1 week straight? It will never happen and I doubt he could physically get through a week without begging, but I really wonder if his numbers would be that different?
What do you mean? Phil actually be grateful for anything that he stumbles into as opposed to expecting his wheelchairs to carry him to the grocery store for khet to buy potatoes and "meals in a box" items? Perish the thought.

If Phil actually showed legitimate gratitude, and wasn't fake about it (never gonna happen), his income would definitely increase. But, shit like that would require a few more moments of effort... Maybe a community CoD day or shtreet fighter lobbies with followers... You know, stuff he just doesn't have the time for. It's more time economical for him to be a toxic shit sipper than it is to be a slightly decent human being.

Phil's problem has been an inability to manage his money.
I don't think I've ever seen a person making $100K/year for a decade (probably closer to $200K-250K in his Machinima days) have less to show for it.

I can't even say DSP is living outside his means. He literally has nothing to show for anything except his JPEG collection. His house and his car have barely touched the priniciple. He doesn't have any fancy "toys" (his action figures really aren't worth shit). He's spent all his money on leases for cars he no longer has and for a CT condo that he no longer owns as well as HOA fees and other just bullshit.

Holy shit, Comma, fucking amazing work!

Remember, we're the obsessed weirdos because we spend time... doing the accounting that he should be doing as part of his fucking business, the business he treats like a piggy bank instead of a financial vehicle.

$111.649 before taxes. And when Phil does his taxes, he gets to write off business expenses.

Electricity, monthly rent, business class Internet, however many games and systems he bought, WWE network (he might need to do his wrestling show with Rambo), WWE Champions (under miscellaneous microtransactions), food for DSP Tries It, alcohol for Christmas stream, decorations, etc.

His bankruptcy showed he claims at least $5000 a month on his business expenses. Business expenses get deducted from your income. If he writes that all off, 5000x12 months = $60,000

$51.649 that's basically poor. Those detractors are trying to say he made $111,000? Wrong!

Good thing he doesn't make much money lest the IRS comes knocking because I bet some of his business expenses are lower then what he puts into his documents

I will always wonder if this keeps Phil up at night, or he just shuts it out, or truly doesn't care because he's that big of a loser. We'll never know, he's taking that to the grave just like any admission of being a gambling addict.

And he can go ahead and do that, because he still loses. Outside of his very small fan base, he is known for being exactly what he really is. All his denials of the truth have accomplished absolutely nothing, just like he himself.

First of all, brilliant work @Comma

Second, this man was found to be legally able to get a bankruptcy.

Third, the next time Phil mocks the amount of money he allegedly spends on WWE Champions...well, you rarely leave the house, you never travel, you have no kids and only one mid-sized horse....but you make between $110,000 and $120,000 a year AND ARE BANKRUPT. Where is the money going? It's sure not going into clothes, or shit to make the stream better.

We know where it's going....it's WWE Champions (time).

Great work @Comma!

I believe the cheers total may be understated. Does this include the $3,000 cheers from BigBWolf and OverpoweredBoone? Those two cheers alone would offset his chargebacks.
No, the numbers on cheers and subs don't include anything from after March 2020; they're an estimated average based on what DSP received from cheers and subs between August 2019 and March 2020, so both 3K cheers aren't included. So yeah, I can say that I'm 99% sure the amount he received from cheers in 2020 is understated.

Also: I've added the 2020 tips average per late/early stream to the OP:

It's very clear that his (North) American audience/timezone is the most profitable (or autistic, however you want to call it). During the late streams, viewers manage to contribute 78% of what the early stream coughs up on average, but they only need 2 hours and 30 minutes for that instead of 5 hours and 15 minutes.

If you apply those numbers on the early streams, they would raise $220 on average per stream.

So, in theory, if Phil were to sleep during the day and stream entirely at night, he could make more money?

If that's the case, then clearly there are things more important to him than even cash, because there is no fucking way he's changing his schedule to rake it in more.

Great stuff as usual @Comma

With adding in the $6k in cheers, we are up to an estimate of $117,649. One other thing to call out is that his average subs are much higher in the later half of 2020. I looked at his first video of his GTA 4 playthrough and he had approx 580 subs in August 2019. In part 1 of his Sept 2019 retrospective, he had 624 subs. FFVII Remake in April had 746 subs.

My point is that it is very realistic that he made over $125k from Twitch and tips alone (including a generous $7k chargeback deduction) in 2020.
