He's not suing this site, he's suing @ZellZander, for stuff he did mostly elsewhere (on YouTube).

There are very few companies who will not hand over whatever information they have in response to a valid legal request and the amount of data companies like Google and the social media giants have on their users is enormous.

Best practices are at least to notify the target of the subpoena so they can oppose it if they wish. Some companies including Google will also actually oppose requests that complying with would be costly, especially if complying would encourage a horde of others to do so.

The reality is these websites have to respond reasonably to subpoenas whatever the underlying merits of the lolsuit. If subpoenaed, Josh would have to turn over the same information (although he probably has lot less than say Google). That's why there is a long warning on the sign-up page about never using repeat information across websites.

Beyond the frankly stupid emails this guy was sending, he also had really bad OPSEC.

Considering what is on the Dark Web, a determined enough person could easily get their hands on certain illegal items and if they knew where you lived could either threaten you directly or try to frame you for a crime you've not committed.

I remember hearing that because a guy got rejected by a girl, he obtained narcotics via the Dark Web and tried to frame this girl and her partner by posting the narcotics through their letterbox during the middle of the night, he then called the Police from a Burner Phone and they had their front door smashed in and were arrested.

It was only when footage from their Ring doorbell of the guy posting the narcotics through the letterbox was seen by the Police that they were cleared and the guy responsible ended up doing five years for his stupidity and selfishness.
