There's a lot of factors that must come together for someone with mental health issues like he does to become socially adjusted. Parental, environmental, personal drive, societal, et cetera. Stabbins, if the fact that he lived with his parents well into adulthood is any indicator, probably had decent parents. Fayetteville is, by all indicators, a pretty nice place to live. I think where Stabbins fell apart is in personal drive. He's content to live in a pig sty, he's content with no family, friends, or significant other. The only thing that motivates him is greed, and you can't *grow* from greed.

The problem here is that I know of more then a few people content to live in a pigsty all on their own with few friends and very little family contact who are otherwise well adjusted, able to get along in society and hold down jobs etc, without becoming hateful troglodytes who sue everyone for every assumed wrong and and are utterly unpleasant to be around, they just prefer their own company and are a bit lazy.
How old are his parents? Is he a product of defective old people gametes like Chris?
