"Part of the issue is that playing the Scorpion King does not, in fact, make someone of Middle Eastern descent (even if they did it twice)"

And just like that, opinion discarded.

Something about all the latest reviews rub me the right way. It stinks of salty marvel fanboys.

All im saying is "official" critics opinions mean nothing to me these days.

As far as actual content of a movie, I agree.

I think it's a good barometer of your regular normies opinion though, and unfortunately they make up the bulk of ticket sales.

I have no skin in the race either way, I've grown kind of annoyed with The Rock lately but at the same time he seems like such a consoomer darling it's weird to see a film of his getting shat on like this. It was also weird to see him suddenly start shilling for Superman over the past month and a half and all these rumors of a last minute cameo being filmed.

Critics do have a Marvel bias, but not in the way fan boys think. They aren't giving DC movies bad reviews because Marvel, but rather failing to give Marvel movies the reviews they should.

Going off the trailer, the 45% metacritic seems about fair, but shit like Black Widow has 67 and Black Panther has a crazy 88 even with it's awful visual effects.

As far as ulterior motives go, I can see them wanting to embarrass and sabotage DC. As its supposed to be going "less woke" these days. Whole push to call it a terrible movie before it's even out feels very astroturfed on twitter.

I mean it could totally be meh, but I find it hard to believe its that much worse then everything else. The problem in my opinon, is that a lot of marvel fanboys don seem to like how DC (zack snyder mostly) sets things in a more serious, grounded reality. Where there are not quips every other scene and characters are allowed to actually breathe and emote.

I actually liked black widow more then black panther. It was going for something a bit more interesting then the samey marvel feel. Panther was just overrated top to bottom.

A lot of the marvel movies after Avengers just have this.. samey feel to em. But ive always considered D.C to be better in terms of quality and action.

most of the story in Black Widow is just a rehash of Winter Solider

I get Marvel is shit but a lot of DC movies are actually garbage and the characters (in Snyder’s movies at least) have as much emotion as plywood. Not to mention the amount of times when the DC films not done by Zack Snyder are either decent or trying really hard to be like marvel (i.e. 2016 Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, Joss Whedon Justice League, and the upcoming Flash movie that’s trying to use the same nostalgia shit that Marvel is doing)

I said it before during the Big Scorsese Stink of '19, but Marvel movies are just glorified B-movies that get more attention and clamour than they ever deserved. Even some of the "better" ones have plot points that are demolished if any of their characters applied some common sense into their actions. Sure they might be flashier and give nods to other titles in their 30+ film library, but at the end of the day they're still vapid, by-the-numbers capeshit and have been that way for a long while now.

Related to the DC stuff, it's nice that Cavill's back and such. Maybe now they can give him a Superman film that plays to the character's iconic strengths. Hell, the comics landscape is so doubled-over-fucked right now that having an honestly portrayed Superman would ironically be a breath of fresh air.

I'm going to Black Adam on Saturday so I'll find out if it's a dud then. My hopes are not high.

The critics are full of shit. Big shock. Just saw it and it was pretty fun

Dwayne was great. I liked how he was going for a Kratos approach to the character and the way his arc progresses was done MILES above standard capeshit. I dont know how anyone can call it cliche compared to marvel.

Justice society was surprisingly good. They had a much bigger role then I expected and all of them had good chemistry. Especially Dr fate and Hawkman.

The biggest complaint to be had is that it was clearly going for an R rating, especially in the opening, but they got away with as much as they could. Also intergang could have used more depth but it was cool to see them there.

Probably the dumbest moment in the movie, but I love clint eastwood so ill allow it.

Whole push-back against it felt fake from the beginning, although im still not sure why they are trying to sink it.

My theory as to why they are astro turfing the movie, is because either intergang's portrayal was hitting too close to home or They were miffed about the fact that the bad guy is
the devil.

Saw it myself. I originally had no plans to watch it whatsoever, but a friend wanted to see it and I dodged that godawful Birds of Prey film, so I was ready for a laugh at a bad film's expense.

It was a better film than it had any right to be. I expected a trainwreck and was given a decent B-movie instead. Dwayne was not as annoying or out-of-place as I thought he was going to be, the comedy wasn't overly distracting or lazily thrown in to take the impact out of any serious moments, there was no social politics of any sort, and the characters were generally likeable.

Weakest parts:
- The pacing is haphazardous at the start, sometimes moving frenetically from one scene to the next, only really finding its footing around the latter half of the film.
- The visual effects are nothing to write home about and you see them in just about any superhero film, though there is some unabashed violence, which helps keep Black Adam more like what he's supposed to be.

Overall, I enjoyed it. They didn't diminish Black Adam's character, I was surprised by how much I liked Brosnan's Dr. Fate and Hawkman, and there was even a twist I didn't see coming. A competent film that provides capeshit without becoming a platform for thinly-veiled social politics.

Yes I remember the opening felt very rushed. Definitely feels like there will be an extended directors cut, with more scenes and violence added back in later. Still worth a ticket id say for the action and dynamics.

Black Adam was allowed to do some pretty badass stuff here and there for some quick shots which I liked. They managed to let him kill the villain in a gruesome manner on camera, so that was great.

I also enjoyed how Black Adam is a fan of helicopter rides.

It was also pretty cool to see a team of hero's acting 100% heroic, protecting the civilians and the criminals.

Just finished it. Surprised everyone's missed the thinly veiled idpol. The movie starts off when Khandaq, a free black nation (also the only free nation at the time) is conquered by light skinned invaders - who enslave all the dark skinned Khandaquians. Then later it's conquered by Interpol, who are seemingly all white except for the one guy who becomes Satan 2.0. There is the obligatory race swapped Ginger, Cyclone. And the good guys, the Justice Society, are portrayed with overtones of colonialism. This movie is just as woke as all the other ones.

I think people are getting so used to woke politics in entertainment that anything outside of a 10 minute monologue from the lead about how all white/men/straight people are evil just flys under the radar for them. The messaging has been in literally everything for the last ten years, and if all you watch is new stuff, it just becomes the baseline. If you watch older movies and tv for a while (do it, it's all so much better written and acted) it will stick out like a big, red flag when you watch anything recent.

As far as the rest of the movie, meh. It's bog standard capeshit, with predictable lines and plotting. The acting was ok, with both Hawkman's & Doctor Fate's actors being above average (it's Pierce Brosnan, he could phone it in and still be good). The fight scenes were good and the CGI wasn't crap, but it was all CGI. Overall, it was an ok 90 minutes, but not worth a second watch. Probably not worth a first watch either.

I thought it was a pretty fun movie. The Rock is good in the role. I genuinely have no complaints and it's not like I rate him as a classical actor. Nice balance of likeability and darkness. I had no idea Pierce Brosnan was in it so that was a very pleasant surprise. The man has aged phenomenally. Atom Smasher and Cyclone were unusually likeable for teen heroes. And Cyclone looked like she wanted to jump on Atom Smasher every time she looked at him. I don't know the comic version of her so if as @duckbutter&toejamsandwich suggests this is yet ANOTHER redhead erased in the transition to screen that's not something I'd have known. But the actress was pretty and likeable. No complaints about her and frankly she's like a younger and far more fun version of Storm. I liked the special effects on her powers.

Special effects also were fine. I don't need anything more than what they provided and I thought the Rock had a nice feeling of weight to him as he's flying out of that building.

A few weak jokes and it's not the deepest movie ever made. But well worth watching and a Hell of a lot better than most Marvel stuff. Wokeness, I guess some - the invaders were White. But I mean, that's not wildly unrealistic. Literally the USA has its troops occupying Syria right now and shipping Syrian oil out. Intergang in this movie are some kind of Private Military Corporation. Like BlackWater in Iraq. Frankly, what would make it Woke would be if Cyclone kept complaining about being oppressed or White characters were arbitrarily racist.

I rate this: "You should see it". Unless you really dislike superhero stuff.
