Set Batman Beyond in a new location. Make it a cross between a Cyberpunk setting and The Warriors where you have a bunch of different named street gangs with different themes around, Bruce is retired and Nightwing is Gotham's protector, because Bruce got to old to do the job physically but he is still there mentally so he helps do investigations.

Bruce meets Terry, decides he is gonna stay in -insert new city here- because Robin and the bat family don't need him there anymore because they are grown up and able to do the job and Gotham is generally safe now because Nightwing is still there to keep the Criminals in check but this new city needs a Batman like Gotham did when the various Mobs were in charge.

I liked the Batman Beyond Unlimited and 2.0 runs quite a bit. There's a couple of later ones that aren't terrible too, but I'd read those first and see if you like them.

the rebirth run is hit and miss, but avoid Neo Year and Neo Gothic at all costs.

That was before Steph became batgirl. It is easily one of my least favorite storylines, and it's set during prime bat-dick era (not to be confuesed with dickbats or bat's dick). Bruce made her robin to piss off Tim after Tim left because his father told him to stop. She was only robin for like 3 issues, and then she "died" bc of some retarded plot were she stole Bruce's plan to end all crime in Gotham. Pretty good video on it here

Wow, I didn't know that in the 00s we could get such bad comics that would fit in the '10s. Good thing modern DC doesn't know about this one, a story intentionally setting up Bats to be a tool for an edgy story trying to out-edge the 90s. Even worse, CY comics are worse, as they're written by incompetent and petty activists.

A funny reminder of DC reboot fuckery. Just like DC making Alan Scott gay form now on, the New 52 and then Rebirth reboots have caused it so that Dr. Kimiyo Light was married to the rapist Dr. Arthur Light the whole time. And Arthur’s now the father of Kimiyo’s two teen daughters and young son. Also DC gave Doctor Light a heroic death protecting his family. A serial rapist that loves his wife and kids enough to give his life to protect them without a second thought.

I remember Legends of Tomorrow had something similar too but Hawkman was the bull at that time. It was just as bad.

Destined lovers trope is a bit cliche I admit but Hawkman and all the Hawkpeople must have something else to write about somewhere. Or maybe they are just savage sex pests with wings.

We can agree to disagree. Personally, I liked the story. I like it when superheroes feel human. They have interests, flaws, lives etc etc. John being split between two women was rather interesting. That might also be because I was never really a fan of Hawkman. Never hated him either. Just neutral. I consider this AN origin story rather than the definitive one. That being said, the whole "reincarnated lovers" theme is something women find appealing rather than men.

@Humble Architect this just came across my YT feed and although I know you as I already know and have pointed this out to people, there is a bit in this video that might be worth saving in case you ever have to deal with someone blowing Mark Waid, where Ross explains what happened with KC and that DC Editorial assigned the credits in such a way, he'd only get paid as the artist despite writing the fucking thing and Mark Waid's been given that distinction over time. He says what I assumed all along where he didn't know any better because he was young, and Waid agreed to always refer to it as by the both of them if it ever came up. Which, to be fair to a guy I don't like, I do think Waid always says Ross came up with the whole story.
