Dead by Daylight and other Asymmetric Slasher Games - Discuss the games and the autistic/entitled communities around them

How the fuck manages this game to get all these lucrative Licenses? Lol

Behavior is considered the biggest indie game dev in Canada, has 500 employees, and made around 30 million last year just from Dead by Daylight. Their strategy is to keep adding licensed characters to attract casuals.

Killer, two new survivors, and a new map that's supposed to be an underground lab? That's... interesting.
Is it weird that the thing I'm most interested in is the map? I don't watch gay 80s nostalgia-bation, so an underground lab feels like it's going to be a cross between Gideon and Lery's.

Dunno you, but I would consider calling a 500 employee Dev studio Indie a bit of a stretch IMO although that's maybe just me.

That's how they're praised in articles. I would cite them as an example of incompetence and greed personally.

The map will probably be another window loop fest like Lery's. I would be very surprised if there's new assets for the map. Same thing happened with Freddy; now with Freddy you have a lot of leeway with the kind of map you could do. You could do the junkyard (Freddy's final resting place), you can do a bizarro fantasy dream world kind of like this:

Not exactly like that but my point is that you could do a lot with a dream world. Or, set the entire map in the boiler room, Freddy's domain of choice, the place where he killed the children when he was human (and butt-fucked them in the remake). What do we get instead? Just another variation of Haddonfield but with a tiny school with a tiny laughable boiler room that serves as just an obnoxious looping spot for survivors. They obviously Jewed out but the bigger crime is the creative bankruptcy with such an IP.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective; they have 500 employees and make mediocre games that they monetize aggressively- but compared to people like EA, they're basically Santa Claus.

I main the Shape, so I don't hate Lery's even a little. But I see your point. Aside: how bass-ackwards is the order of things in this game that it's better for the killer to hide from the survivors as opposed to vice-versa?

It's like comparing Stalin to Idi Amin. Sure, Amin didn't murder millions of people like Stalin but he was still a shithead.

German article going over the upcoming perks for the 3 new characters (2 new survivors with 6 brand new perks and 1 new killer).

The Demogorgon - aka, the Stranger Things monster - is the killer who teleports into the game next. Oh, by the way, teleportation is a good keyword, because one of the main abilities of Demogorgon is to be able to always teleport to different locations on the map . So similar to the revised Freddy, who can beam himself to generators recently. Lore-technically, teleportation is fairly straightforward, as the Demogorgon takes a path through the alternate universe of upside-down when jumping from place to place. Here's how it works: You can create portals anywhere that will eventually teleport you to another location on the map. The question, of course, is whether the starting portal for the survivor is visible before the Demogorgon slips through.

So, what about the perks? Côté did not tell me the exact details of the perks, but for the most part, they should specialize in stopping survivors. Stopping them from repairing generators or fingering totems; just about everything, what they are doing right now. What does that mean? A perk, for example, is particularly nasty: when a generator is done, all windows and vaults in the game are blocked for 30 seconds.

A second perk kicks all generators within a certain radius of the killer as soon as it hits a survivor.
All affected generators lose progress from then on, unless a survivor takes them again. The Demogorgon will mainly slow down the game and, as Mr Côté has also told me - he is damn strong.

I called it. Of course they're going to sell more perks to slow the game down. Licensed characters provide a golden opportunity for them because, guess what, players cannot buy licensed characters with shards that you earn by just playing the game. You need to pay actual money for the characters or you wait a long ass time and keep checking in once a week to see if the perk you want is available and buy it for shards. Autists defend these practices by beating the drum and saying they're not P2W because reasons. Really, they have no defense for it and just tell you to STFU.

Demogorgon having a teleport power will instantly make him/her/it top tier. Because map control is insanely important and the best killers in the game -aside from Spirit- all have map control (I.E. Nurse, Hillbilly and now Freddy). It does look like the survivors will have some kind of ability, not inherent to perks, to counter the teleport. So we'll see.

The perks are so blatantly P2W now.

"when a generator is done, all windows and vaults in the game are blocked for 30 seconds." Pair that with other perks that block gens like Corrupt Intervention and Thrilling Tremors and you might stand a chance now if you're not using a killer with map control or just use the Nurse.

The devs are going to have a stream today. No idea if it's a Q&A or not. Even if it's a Q&A you won't get through to them, you'll just have autists screaming "ILOVESTRANGERTHINGSOMFG!" But it's assumed they'll go into more detail for the new chapter and will be playable in a PTB next week or so.

Perks are out:

So many potentially OP perks. Surge looks great but it's yet another perk you have to buy to slow the game down. Same with Cruel Confinement, which is situational at best, it'll be great on maps like Lery's or Haddonfield but almost completely worthless on maps like The Game or Blood Lodge. Not digging those survivor perks too much, especially Camaraderie which is another autistic way to reward mindless hook rushing. At least they have to be in phase 2 but still, this can be especially annoying when someone is just about dead and here comes the hook rush with Borrowed Time. I wouldn't mind this at all if the devs would just let killers grab them when they hook rush instead of letting the assholes bait a grab.

There's also going to be new status effects and changes to the bloodweb:

Welcome to our first design update, a blogpost presenting the fine details of upcoming design changes. We are ready to share the details of two new status effects—one for Killers, one for Survivors— that will be making their debut alongside the next chapter, as well as a much-anticipated change to the bloodweb.

UNDETECTABLE

The first Killer status effect since Bloodlust, Undetectable consolidates our Killer stealth mechanics into one easily understandable status that can be applied through Killer powers, perks, and add-ons.

When a Killer is Undetectable, the following effects are applied:

  • The Killer’s terror radius is removed.
  • The Killer’s red stain is removed.
  • The Killer will not have their aura revealed.
  • The Killer does not trigger the jumpscare sound effect.
  • The Killer sees the smoky screen visual effect.
As with most of our status effects, the Undetectable icon will appear on the right side of the screen.

When the new chapter releases, players will have an opportunity to experience this status effect for the first time with the new Killer. We intend to roll out this status effect to other existing powers, perks and add-ons, where relevant, in upcoming chapter / mid-chapter releases.

OBLIVIOUS

Oblivious is a status effect applied to unfortunate Survivors that have no understanding that a Killer is nearby.

When a Survivor is Oblivious, the following effects are applied:

  • The Survivor does not hear The Killer’s terror radius.
  • The Survivor is not affected by any effects that are conditional to being inside of a terror radius.
Being Oblivious makes a Survivor completely ignorant of a Killer in close proximity, but at the same time, they also ignore the effects of Coulrophobia, Unnerving Presence, Infectious Fright, and other terror radius perks.

As with the Undetectable status, Survivors will have the opportunity to experience this effect when playing against the new Killer in the upcoming chapter release. Following this, we will include Oblivious in other powers, perks, and add-ons in later patches.

BLOODWEB CHANGES

This update will also see a change to the bloodweb which significantly cuts down the amount of time taken to unlock perks.

From level 40 and beyond, more perks will appear in each bloodweb, giving you more choice between which perks you take, increasing the odds of finding the perk you want, and potentially allowing you to take two perks per level. The exact details are as follows:

  • Levels 1-39: Unchanged
  • Levels 40-49: Three perks appear, up to two can be purchased.
  • Level 50: Four perks appear, up to two can be purchased.
The other rules of the bloodweb remain the same; when you take a perk, The Entity consumes another perk at random. If you are efficient at acquiring nodes on the bloodweb, this change means that you could earn up to two perks per level, although you will be racing against The Entity.

With the total number of perks growing with each chapter release, getting the perks you wanted could be challenging. With this change, the odds of finding the perk you want are doubled and the amount of time taken to unlock all perks is dramatically reduced.

All the changes mentioned above will first be available in the 3.2.0 update. We look forward to hearing what you think once you’ve gotten a chance to try them out!

The initial grind is still going to be a bitch but at least when you get to level 40 you can grab at least 2 perks.

a bit concerned about the new killer, but will remain cautiously optimistic.

given that he has to manually place his teleport destinations down, it will be like hag or trapper where the first gen will be gone by the time youve set up your good spots in the beginning, and it doesnt help that survivors can destroy them.
his charged leap reminds me of hillbilly with the speed limiter addon, albeit a bit faster.

i hope im wrong m8s, but he looks like a weak combination of new freddy and billy

I've heard that the portals will show the auras of nearby survivors. I assume it's dependent on add-ons. It also takes them a while to cleanse the portal which is good because it means they're wasting time not doing gens. I get the impression the Demogorgon will have stealth abilities as well. Why else would they introduce a new status effect like undetectable?

In the video, I noticed that the demogorgon had the insidious smoke on the edge of his screen while it was running around after climbing out of a tunnel. I hope it lasts for a decent amount of time, because it would be pretty fun to have a jump scare mechanic for the first nonhuman killer.

Also from the vid it seemed like it will take around 10-15 seconds to destroy a single tunnel with only a single person working on it. Not sure how I feel about that yet, but I hope it's not too fast considering how easy to spot these things are

It would be fun to put one in the basement of the killer shack, leave, and emerge out that portal as they're working on the gen in there. Or, shut down a hook rusher.

BHVR refuses to go back and retool the fundamental mechanics of the game, instead focusing on shoving a new killer/survivor/content every three months. Its a mistake long term.

It's really sad. A lot of people are going to get excited and this is going to be their first impression of DbD and the first couple of matches are most likely going to be fine. Especially if they're going to play Survivor but the instant they play as Killer... Whoa boy. Most of these new people will play for a bit, leave negative reviews on Steam complaining about the balance and player base (again, the survivor side of the base) being absolute cancer and that's going to be the end of it.

If MOBAs hadn't toughened me up, this 'community' would have sent me reeling from the game. The really terrible matchmaking doesn't help - I've literally been in matches as a Rank 14 Killer with all red rank survivors. I don't know if the system is just that bad, or if there are so few killers that the matchmaking just can't bracket it in well. Though survivors at all ranks are basically the most aggro kind of toxic cancer regardless.

I had a game, for example, where a SWF group was clowning me - but I managed to get one down as they opened the gates. I sat on her in the basement, and her entire team hook rushed the basement (bad idea when I'm Bubba) and promptly DC'd. "No kills for a camper!" they screamed, and "Why did you just camp in the basement?" as if I'm supposed to just let them escape?

Supposedly they're fixing the matchmaking soon where the average number of rank of survivors will match to the appropriate killer. We'll see. They'll find some way to fuck it up. It's funny that the player base defends their toxicity (I hate using that Tumblr word but it's fitting here) by saying -and I quote- "Other gaming communities are just as bad." I've never played LoL but that's the big one that the autists compare their community to. I've played a lot of other kinds of games and acclimated to their respective communities and I've never been confronted with the same level of autism as DbD's community. Never before have I dealt with so many fucking people that honest to god believe that you -as killer- have to play by their made up rules. It's insanity. It's a community filled with Low-Tier-God's. For reference: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/low-t...on-lowti3rgod-sparrow25-dalauan-sparrow.9136/

The game is so close to being a good overall experience for everyone but the devs keep fucking up by trying to appeal to these fucking autists that cry about everything and demand everything be catered to them.

PTB starts September 3rd where they will be testing dedicated servers and the blood web changes. On September 4th they will release the Stranger Things DLC on the PTB. It is assumed that the full release on all platforms will happen on Septer 17th or 24th. No mention of when the punishment for ragequitting will happen.

If someone is vaguely interested in the game (as a killa) are there any streamers to watch so I could watch before I buy?

I'd also recommend this guy: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDO__Z-tZD4bfG9m4AkK_uA/videos

Very good killer and explains what he's doing. He does tend to run very situational perk builds that all depends on finding the Obsession quickly or getting a snowball effect happening.

Has the DbD community even compared themselves to the DOTA 2 or Rainbow6 Siege communities, stating that they "at least aren't as toxic as those communities"?

I assure you the only reason the Dead by Daylight community doesn't seem as bad as the MOBA one is because DbD doesn't let the survivors scream like frothing at mouth retards on mic.
