Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

Sleeping Dogs WAS getting a spin-off MMO for some fucking reason I shit you not. How the fuck Square EVER thought that fans of that game wanted an MMO to play is absolutely beyond me, but it got canceled. I don't know if there's hope for a sequel, but I'd really like that.
Shit, that's what I was thinking of. There goes my excitement. (:_(

The only dead franchise I've been holding a candle for years is Legacy of Kain.

I know the canceled 'Dead Sun' was basically an original story with the LoK name (and some elements) slapped onto it, but after learning more about it, I'm glad it got the axe. I never touched the 'Nosgoth' MOBA for various reasons, and even that's dead now, too.

But while Raziel's story was wrapped up as good as it could get in 'Defiance'... it's not really easy to make a legitimate sequel that finishes Kain's arc once and for all: The story got incredibly convoluted and you've pretty much locked out new players if you continue the game from the end of 'Defiance'. Yeah, the Soul Reaver games (plus Blood Omen 2 and Defiance) are on digital services, but Blood Omen is trapped in a legal nightmare (Silicon Knights and Dennis Dyack are lolcows in of themselves), so it's never been released to places like GOG or Steam, and probably never will until Dyack croaks or is finally committed to a mental institution.

The only way they can really do LoK now is to just do a hard, 'Tomb Raider'-esque reset on everything. And frankly, after 'Tomb Raider" and 'Rise of the Tomb Raider", I'm beginning to wonder if it's probably for the best that the LoK series is dead.

Black & White, Fable... *sobs*

And Creatures:

I'm not big on franchises as a whole, but if I live to see a remaster/remake of FFVI that isn't an abysmal Android port, I'd be a happy camper.
Either that, or a new Panel De Pon game. I don't even care if they reskin it as long as it plays well.

I miss Freespace.

Was the only really good space fighter sim (IMHO) and it never got back on track.

I would kill for either a re-release or a new game with today's graphics.

Prototype. The story was never really good and characters really bland but fuck it was really to run all around NY causing chaos with your powers. I really wish Activision didn't shut down Radical

I'm still assblasted we never got a 3D remake in the same vein as FF3 and FF4. I would've killed to see Terra and co. done up in a similar SD/chibi style like that, it would've worked really well.

Also, another series I thought about that I still hold a candle for? F-Zero. GP Legend pretty much trashed the series after the GX hype and we haven't gotten a decent new F-Zero game for 2 consoles and 2 handhelds since. I know there's been similar indie titles like it and also Mario Kart 8, but it's not the same, lmao.

After playing through King's Field: The Ancient City on the PS2 for the first time, I kinda wish there were more of those games made by FromSoft. That was apparently the last major entry in the series as far as I could tell.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Dark Souls, but I certainly wouldn't mind something from the former series making a proper return.

The Kings Quest series from way back when. Excluding the 8th game because it was hardly a KQ game at all.

Really old school adventure game companies in general. LucasArts and Sierra and Westwood. Those were the days...

edit to add: Bully from Rockstar. They only made one game but it was one of the few I've ever really enjoyed from Rockatar. Surprisingly entertaining.

The new Kings Quest games I've heard are very true to the originals and very good so I wouldn't say it's a dead series.
