Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

Lost Planet.

That new Capcom IP seems like a weird mash up of it and EDF though so I'm looking forward to it.

ATV offroad fury
RC revenge
Stars wars (force unleased, KOTOR, empire at war, battlefront)
Supreme commander
Sins of a solar empire (not dead but no news on a sequel after 10 years....)
red faction
the old marvel ultimate alliance games
motorstorm
killzone
dungeon keeper
flatout
command and conquer
ece.

On the plus side, some games that would have made this list, like destroy all humans and ace combat, have seen resurrections from the grave. ace combat also got a fan game, project wingman, which is fantastic. Roller coaster tycoon is dead and buried, but both planet coaster and parkitect are fantastic successors.

Disciples. All after 2 was between meh and god fucking awful.

Larian needs to get their shit together and focus on main character rather than bitchy dommy frog
They are more interested in making Divinity 3 and coasting off the namesake than making anything good.

They have glimmers of good ideas, like the Red Prince, interspersed with these stupid origin stories (Where you miss out on a ton by making your own character - a staple of western RPGs), and just bad writing. I can't believe the final dungeon in DOS2 was fighting puppets who took 10 minute turns to randomly hop around.

IIRC, they recently released a remake or remaster of the first 2, and they made a third but it's a "reboot" of the series.
The M:UA "remaster" was more of just a PC/HD console port thing, and it was utterly broken from a technical standpoint. It was also missing the DLC characters and levels from the earlier console version.

This version, along with the re-releases on PS4/Xbone were delisted in 2018 due to licensing issues, alongside games like deadpool. They have been relisted, but only in the EU/UK, and I believe they have been taken down again. To date the only way to play the full game is to own the 360 gold edition of the game.

There was also the hulk DLC that was only ever released on the 360 version.

M:UA3 was alright, aping the Disney movies a bit too much and lacking some of the original iconography and writing of UA 1 and 2, along with some gameplay features and the alternate costumes that changed a characters stats. The fact it was called 3 yet disregarded the story from 1 and 2 always irked me.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer series. The soundtrack from Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero is great. All the rivals you race against have a fun little bio about the person. The rivals' logos are also really cool.

The gang's name Curving Edge still sounds so cool. The Wanderer Eternity's bio makes me crack up every time. A street racer who doesn't' know anything about cars. Brilliant!

Oh man, the memories of this game. Good times.

Final fantasy is dead to me. I believe the last good final fantasy was 12. I'd rather rip my fucking pubes out than try to play 15, I don't do MMO shit and 13 and it's sequel are boring. 10 2 was elaborate fanfiction garbage.
But I still
Like a junkie, hold out hope that it'll come back. The reveal at the end of stranger of paradise gives me some sort of hope.
15 was great

way better than 13

12 was ok but it suffers from the main character being an insufferable prick

All of my picks would probaby end up as a monkey's paw situation. Two of them already have.

Breath of Fire: Finally got a long-awaited sequel in the form of a Japan-only mobile game that removed the games' charming art style in favor of the most generic 2010s anime designs I've ever seen. It was apparently so bad they dropped support for in one year.

Zettai Hero Project: Would've loved a proper PC remaster of this overlooked PSP gem, but what we got was a half-assed port with terrible graphical upscaling that removes almost half the original game's content due to licensing issues.

Freedom Fighters: As much as I'd give for a sequel, a game where a heroic blue collar chud fights back the Red Menace would never fly today. It would have to be changed to a woke wet dream about BIPOC genderqueer communists fighting back against obvious Republican stand-ins. ThE cHuDs WeRe THE REAL VILLAINS all ALonG!

Megaman Legends 3: Would probably be a mobile game with gacha mechanics for some reason. Or it would be a Switch exclusive released in six parts over the course of six years, with generic 2020s anime art and day one DLC. Who knows? Modern Capcom could fuck up a wet dream.

Rival Schools: Again, modern Capcom couldn't help but fuck this up somehow.

Feel ya. As much as I'd like a new one, I wouldn't like it with modern sensibilities. Best case scenario, it gets sold off to some indy group who does love it and does a legit remaster/tribute.

Anyway, Jagged Alliance, the game all tactical RPG's want to be when they grow up and never have so far. I'll never stop holding out hope someone buys it that doesn't abuse it with all the trash that's come out after 2. Then again, that's what I get for expecting anyone else to be as awesome as Sir Tech was.

Was the third game any good?
Nope, they tried to 'westernise' it. Very much like how Konami handed the development to a couple Silent Hill games to Western developers, Capcom did the same with Lost Planet 3. If you can get some of the guys together and muck about in the second game, I'd enjoy it. But as a package, the first will always be the best.

Granted, we never got the spin off title EX Soliders, which was like a manga-stylised, cell shaded hack, slash and shoot kind of deal. Literally because the Americans 'don't understand the concept of spin off games' and that everything needs to be canonical. In an age of Monster Hunter Generations/Cross and Rise, we probably would have had the game ship here if it was made now.

I miss the Helghast.

Level 5 doesn't care anymore. But I would like a Dark Cloud 3.

Once again, these are my picks. A few are one-off games rather than series or franchises.

Dino Crisis
Army Men
Dead or Alive
CarnEvil
Rumble Roses
Darkstalkers
Lethal Enforcers
Empire Earth
Time Crisis
GUN
Warlords Battlecry
Time Killers
Fear Effect
Cold Fear
Oni
The Godfather
BloodRayne

The Godfather
When I was younger, my parents bought me one of the Godfather games because they didn't want me playing Grand Theft Auto IV. I still don't understand exactly how that idea makes sense, but I'm glad they made it because even as a kid I could really appreciate the game. My problem with GTA a lot of the time is that it never makes you feel like a kingpin. You could be told you're the biggest drug dealer in Vice City, but you're still an errand boy running missions for people who are supposed to be your inferiors. I loved that in The Godfather you could order made men to do things for you, and manage guards it really gave you the feeling of being in charge of a criminal empire.

On another note, I dislike how much games have split into dedicated singleplayer and dedicated multiplayer games. I really hope for a new Resistance game or new Killzone.

Ahh the second one.

The first Godfather game was much, much better.

Sony's handling of the series in tretrospect was absolute ass, constantly omitted or silently caancelleded global releases for spinoffs (still pissed about million monkeys), 2 different english dubs for us/canada NTSC andthe bri'ish PAL reigon reading pretty much identical scripts, different VA casts for EACH FUCKING GAME'S DUB INCLUDING THE PSP PORT OF THE PS1 GAME.. it just keeps going on.
But the worst of it all is hinting at a 4th mainline entry for like a whole decade witht he pipo monkey lurkingat playstation events and that dedicated ape escape social media showing up and then closing awhile before sony announced they closed their game developlent studio that was responsible for those games as well as others was like the final "fuck you" to anyone that actually cared about the funny monkey game with the canonical metal gear crossovers solely because the guys in charge of both projects were kinda friends that were omitted from future releasess of metal gear solid 3 by konamiwhile ape escape 3 never got a port.
