Dealing with the compromise

Because that's literally how every site that uses their head two seconds that has a breach like this reacts to it. They trash the information and make sure it is hard to find. Why would it be a bad thing to make it harder for people to find this information, especially when you know that this website routinely has people that look up users if they dare say anything bad about them?

Did everyone lose the plot here? Hello?

This isn't Equifax dude. Why were you operating on the assumption that this site isn't constantly under a barrage of attacks by psychos? If Vordrak comes to your house and stabs you to death, then you can come back and complain, until then just stop freaking out over the fact that someone has your VPN's IP address (If you're smart) or a dynamic IP address that you can change in 20 seconds (if you're not completely stupid) or a static IP that you can change with one phone call to your ISP (if you're not dumber than a literal brick.)

@Null I'd like to ask what the fuck you are doing honestly.

Yes, I am aware. You want to host the cool website with people that are scared of nothing. You want to host the cool website where no secrets are shared and where users never share anything about themselves while laughing at spastics on the internet, and boast about your site's infamy. And you know, most of the time, I would agree. We are a website designed to laugh at people on the internet. But saying that people only do that in here is a gross misunderstanding.

By that I mean that people connect with each other. The chat is full of people that like connecting with each other. People bond in private message and talk to each other about threads and random stuff. Sometimes they add each other offsite and they become great friends. People often state how surprised they are to realize that a lot of people are cool dudes here and they end up making a lot of friends. Like it or not, your site is a social site where people bond over spastics acting like idiots on the internet. And that's great, right? You said you loved the prospect of having a site where people connect with each other, no matter their differences. You also stated many times that you wanted this website not to have much infighting, because you said that this is something you loved about this place.

So, tell me why you are hosting a file that is going to generate infighting.

Don't get me wrong: this leak is baby stuff. It's a laughable leak in comparison to the real damage that could have been done. But it's still damage. Some users are affected by this, and as always there can be severe consequences to stuff like this, as much as people like to laugh about it. Hosting this file is further spreading the damage. I'm aware that people will hand the file to each other if they want to find some shit about some people (even if minimal), but that doesn't give you the justification to outright host it. Do you really think in your right mind that asking the majority of the people on this website for a decision like this is the right move, when some people have been here for a day, or a week, or simply hardly use it and mostly watch your streams? Do you seriously think that this is the people that you need to ask this question to? Of course a random exceptional individual that only uses A&H to scream about jews will vote yes. Use your head two seconds. No one in their right mind that has spent any significant amount of time here would vote yes. And even then, allowing this to happen period is straight up stupid.

How you handled this makes me have no trust in you if anything beyond this were to happen, and some people that have contributed to the site for a while now feel the same way. What are you going to do if one day, someone gets access to more sensitive stuff and decides to post it on an obscure filesharing site? Make a sticky that says "lol look this user had the audacity to talk about their shitty work in my private messages lol what a faggot"? Is this really what we're going for here? You out of all people should know what happens when someone finds out that you frequent (or in your case, lead) a website like this. So again, what the fuck are you doing?

There's nothing to win, no point to make, no tough guy points to gain. This serves no purpose except not protecting your userbase, which was your goal since the beginning. You failed, and in a spectacularly bad fashion at that.

This is greasy with the fingerprints of gpt 2 .... surely.

Because it's public and there's nothing I can do to make it not-public.

If you'd like to delete your account let me know.

are you actually willing to delete accounts. asking for a friend ahahah

It's already out in circulation and all of the people who would use it to nefarious ends (or at least would have motive to) either already have it or can easily get it from somewhere else.

Whinging about it being on the farms is retarded. Like, retarded to the point that I thought (and still kind of do) that you're trolling.

lol, do you really think this is what I care about?

I just care about the way this is handled and an admin thinking it is okay to handle a breach like this. This time it's only minimal information but the day more sensitive info is shared then people will probably have less of a big dick approach to it. But it's alright. Apparently everyone is more concerned about muh optics and how good they look instead of realizing that an admin is willingly going to create a sticky about user information.

I'm more disappointed in Null letting this happen, than the content of this breach. That's all.

No, I don't, but I think it's the only scenario worth being mad about. Anything else is just a mildly annoying result of a decision that you disagree with - you know, the kind of thing that happens all the time when engaging with collaborative mediums where people other than you have decision making powers.

Edit: I guess what I'm trying to point out is that it's a tough situation without any objective correct answer. A decision had to be made and doing what Amazon or Target would do is not a reasonable guide in this situation.

I don't get why you're mad? This is useful information. Oh my shits out there? Let me fix that. It's a lot better than keeping it hushed up and not letting us know to "protect the community" the community are a bunch of autstic adults who can take care of themselves.

Failing to do so they learn how to do so. I might be missing your whole point, but as far as I can tell you're mad that already public information, got reposted?
To be honest, I wouldn't have necessarily cared if literally any other user posted this information. I get that it's public. It's out there. It's never going away. That's fine.

But it's the fucking principle of the thing. A huge reason why I remain on KF, despite all of the risks, is because I've always felt that my identity would be kept secure and that I wouldn't need to worry about my data being freely offered to the world. And the fact that this leak is currently being hosted on the front page of the website -- based on the results of a poll that was voted in by an incredibly small fraction of the userbase -- doesn't do much for my faith in the security of this website.

And it's a shame, because the several people who do share in these concerns are unable to voice them without a chorus of autists screeching at them about how they must have "something to hide."

Bruh, this is just ridiculous, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a bunch of adults to not act like retards here.

Okay, it's gone. I fixed it.

This argument is so fucking gay dude, the cat is out of the bag, there's no reason to act in denial about it. Learn and move forward, at least nobody can pretend to hold this above our heads. It's genuinely amazing to me how all of these people are pearl clutching over this, Shit happened, get the fuck over it.

I believe if the breach weren't such surface level shit, it would be handled in a different way. At least handling it this way, the people that use the site are informed - shit I mean, even users on the site 'worried' that they have been doxed cbf downloading the file and looking through it... Only those actually willing to do anything nerfacious will, and nothing's stopping them from finding the release elsewhere.

Any website/service exposed to the internet is at risk of being hacked. The only way to completely stop something like this from happening is not host a website/service.
