Death Battle - Analyzing weapons, armor, and skills on the Internet since 2010.

Been seeing some drama around one of the match pitches from a few months back. Basically the guy that pitched Homura vs Kurumi Tokisaki was an autistic loli who showed off his body pillow and spent more time going over Madoka lore than actually discussing the match. r/deathbattle's been having a meltdown over it, Twitter's been constantly dunking on the guy, and the original video got taken down. But I managed to snag an upload that the original uploader's trying to have deleted.

Edit: Been trying to get a higher upload since the current one wound up incredibly compressed, but the site won't let it upload.

I know jackshit about either of those characters. Does Homura actually have a chance at winning or is it him sperging?

I've seen Madoka, so I can say with confidence that Homura would be an extremely powerful character that would be very difficult for most characters to fight against. She's not invincible by any means, but she could take characters you think are badasses and mop the floor with them easily. It would take a very specific type of character to be to able to go toe-to-toe with her and be an even fight.

It's hard to discuss why due to spoilers, though. No idea if you're interested, but I can elaborate if you care. Personally, I'd suggest just watching the show, but I don't know where your interests in anime lie.

No idea about the other character.

The movie ended with her absorbing all the power of God Madoka, who’s apparently some multiversal deity that exists outside the laws of reality and time or something. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched Madoka, but I remember Devil Homura creates a new universe and rewrites the memories of everyone, though it’s implied at the end that Madoka will eventually regain her memories and powers over time

Yep, sounds about right from what I remember. The only thing you missed was that Sayaka also has memories of the old universe and what Homura did to Madoka.

Last I heard there’s a new Madoka movie coming out that’s a sequel to Rebellion. All we have is a trailer though.

The Early Death Battle Days weren't amazing, but it had a comfy garage-band feel that let them make edgy jokes like doing making Rebecca Black vs Justin Beiber because they found it funny, running Mai vs Chun-Li on the basis of "Tits vs Ass", having Felecia vs Taokaka just to have a catgirl fight, or making Bucky O’Hare vs Fox McCloud just because they thought it was cool.
The gaming/internet culture was just accepting of edgy jokes, i think after 2016 they just became softer
Remember when rooster teeth kicked out a voice actor for openly voting for trump?

Apparently Death Battle fans (mostly the subreddit) have become obsessed with this one background character in Mahito v Shiggy.

Seriously, go on r/deathbattle and you’re gonna see fanart and memes thirsting over this complete randy. Even making a whole separate subreddit around her.
Apparently there was even vore fanart of her. I’m not going to go looking for that, but I wouldn’t be shocked.
Is this what they call safe horny? Zoomers having to pretend this random painfully average hag is anything but "mid"?

The art for the entire episode was mid at best, so there's no design they could've made that would've been above mid, let alone that random background character.

Feels weird they're doing the DOOM/Halo fight when a new DOOM game is coming out in May. They couldn't have swapped episodes around and delayed it a bit?
Well, it’s probably because the new Doom: The Dark Ages is just a prequel to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternsl.

Also, isn’t the Doom series one of those things where the lore isn’t much to write home about and also not the thing that gets people excited about the games?

Yeah, but it's still a new game, there's no telling what may happen in it to effect powerscaling, even a little bit.

It may not be the focal point, but the lore has gotten increasingly prominent since the 2016 game.

It’d be really funny if it turns out the Death Battle crew was close enough to the Doom devs/publishers to get the okay to be told that Dark Ages wouldn’t affect anything in their upcoming episode.

They have other tells too, if I didn't notice their biases I'd still have known Kratos was going to win because of the dialogue. Kratos was monologuing about Asura being consumed by rage and how he isn't anymore.
This episode had insipid subtext on masculinity. You can hear them goon under their breaths over how Kratos "did better" than that toxic chuddie Asura, despite acknowledging themselves how Asura is not some savage macho stereotype in the first place.

I know Death Battle Cast isn't talked about but occasionally there are matchups that I think could be fun episodes like this

Given how absolutely bonkers both Wonder of U and 096 are, I think it could make for a solidly entertaining episode given the amount of bullshit that both can pull.

I think it'll be funny if the game comes out and it turns out the Doom Slayer was actually weaker in Eternal somehow than he was in Dark Ages.

Why they felt the need to try and make this shit deep is beyond me. The entire concept of the show is having two action figures clash against each other, it ain't high art. They did the same thing with Goku/Superman in all three fights.

I can only assume it’s because the idea of Death Battle is also to celebrate the characters and the IPs they come from.

IIRC, The reason Korra vs Storm happened was because Korra was brought up as fighting Rey from the SW sequels, and there was a feeling if Rey vs Korra happened, it’d be nothing of comments of “can’t both of them lose?” Along with people asking for a scene where the two are killed by Aang and Luke for “disrespecting their legacies” (maybe even have Mara Jade there for some extra salt on the wound). All of which led the crew to have a feeling of “that’s not this show is about, man.”

Also, Ben mentioned on Death Battle Cast that the impetus for Deadpool vs The Mask was because when Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie happened, there were a lot of comments about how DB was leaning a lot into the hyper flanderized “Memepool” and completely ignoring how Deadpool is done in the comics where he’s got a great resume and skill set, and Ben thought it was interesting to where there’s a point where Deadpool has two different perceptions based on who you talk to.

So they had it where the fight against The Mask was Wiz and Boomstick putting things against Deadpool in every way they could, feeling empty after Mask won, and then receiving a letter from Deadpool thanking them for helping him realize who he really is. (I promise it all makes sense in context). Also, Ben mentioned how he felt The Mask actually WAS that hyper random flanderized fourth wall breaker people think Deadpool now is.
