Here's my argument to close chat having an unarchived Discord wannabe. Chat goes against the spirit of Kiwifarms and the archive everything mentality as it actively discourages posters from contributing to threads. and creates a sort of black hole of forum drama and entertainment that could be better used and archived in a thread.

Frankly I wish people would use chat more given how some threads for ongoing happenings (e.g. LA fires) end up cluttered with throwaway posts. People want to comment about how dumb sign language people are but because the chat box for the thunderdome is a ghost town, they completely shit up threads to the point that informative posts are entirely buried.

An example of a healthy chat would be the Keno Kasino. If there was no chat box, the BossmanJack thread would've ended up 10,000 pages of people going "LOL RIP chair!!!". Everyone gets to laugh in chat, then someone clips the kahntent, puts it in the thread and people who are late to the party can sticker to show appreciation. The system works as then the thread remains completely usable while everyone has an outlet for their ephemeral thoughts.

Why do you want to archive chat anyway? Do you see the shit that they put in General chat? There's not a single brain cell there and it's a complete waste of time and energy. If you really want to creep on the chats, either write your own client (the protocol is very simple) or use the logging functionality in Sockchat so you can wave around logs anytime someone embarrasses themselves like an insufferable nerd.
