"Political correctness" has always had a negative connotation, and rightly so. It's inextricably tied with Russia punishing people for wrongthink by sending them to "re-education" camps.

If you - or anyone else - can't distinguish between the "alt-right", conservatives, white separatists, and literal Nazis, then I don't know what to tell you. Plenty of leftists/liberals are able to make that distinction.

I know the difference between the regular conservative, the Alt-right is composed of the latter two with trolls in it.

I have a serious question for everyone though: What is the difference between "political correctness" and being a decent, respectful human being who respects others who are different than them?

I don't judge or criticize people unless they judge or criticize first.

There's a pretty big difference between calling someone a nigger and being hounded by a horde of shrieking blue checkmarks for using the word nigger, out of context. Or deciding to wear dreadlocks for whatever reason and having these same shrieking blue checkmarks accuse you of being racist. How is it that you're on this website without understanding the difference between basic politeness and political correctness?

"Political correctness" is literally about policing the thoughts, opinions, and speech of others. It has nothing to do with respect or universal human values and everything to do with punishing people for questioning a prevailing ideological narrative. Respect cannot exist in the climate of fear it creates because you can't even have the conversations which might foster respect between people with different opinions/values.

Authoritarian regimes demand political correctness and punish dissidents harshly. The flavour of ideology doesn't matter a whole lot. The Nazis did it, multiple communist regimes have done it, fundamentalist Islamic states do it.

I got on this site originally for Chris's antics and nothing more, I looked into these threads a lot and they are nothing short of conservative echo chambers and safe spaces. I voice my opinions which are different from almost everyone on here and it seems that opinions are fine and dandy if and only if they're conservative, pro-trump, etc.

i love how half the people in this thread are grandstanding about free speech yet dogpiling @King Kong... with wings? for wrongthink
ironic isn't it?

Not particularly. Most people here are fairly moderate, at "worst" right-leaning. It's just that left-wing people are funnier.

Back to the ovens with you.

although I check out the urls of new sites that are pulled up like the daily caller, breitbart, daily wire. the problem is as I mentioned earlier, you are getting info from one side.

You don't visit many other threads do you?
I voice my opinions which are different from almost everyone on here...
Well aren't you just a special little snowflake. You honestly think you're the only left leaning person on here?

I'm going to let you in on a secret, some people like Trump just because he rustles people's jimmies. I think you are mistaking hyperbole for actual opinion.

You can have whatever opinion you want, just don't expect people to not challenge you on it at some point because we have an extremely varied user base who will hold different opinions than what you believe.

Now out of curiosity, why do you think it's so important to be PC?

I'm not even sure that they're funnier. They're more easily discoverable because being an SJW is a recreational activity these days and they constantly virtue signal on social media.

I think there's a perception that we tend to take sides here based on political ideology. The reality is that in most instances we tend to think that both sides are equally batshit - SJWs are just more visible because they're endemic on social media, and that leads to them having more threads.

Most people here don't care about the "sides", or even the issues, until one (or all) of those sides tries to use their viewpoint as a justification for censorship.

Mate, other than Breitbart I don't even fucking know what sites are rightwing, and I don't particularly care. I'm disappointed at the media that continues to fuel the outrage culture permeating the US, and at how large companies pretty much own the Internet, but ultimately I just think that people murdering eachother over an orange man being president is funny.

The difference is politeness is a personal choice, not compelled behavior by "compassionate," authoritarian outside forces.

I don't judge or criticize people unless they judge or criticize first.

Well, aren't you wonderful? Do you want a cookie?

I actually don't think it's important to be PC because people who used to discriminate against non-Anglo Saxon, LGBT or non-christian who are butthurt about not being allowed to discriminate those people are REEEEEEEEEEing at the rest of the world for telling them to stop.

the first amendment does grant you free speech, but you are not immune to the consequences of what your speech brings on you. So these people who I mentioned earlier are using political correctness as a tactic to try and shield themselves from the consequences of their actions.

TL;DR

Political correctness is just the conservative version of the race or autism card

That and we had what, near 20 years of people bashing the right? It just wasn't bringing in the lols any more. Sure you had some jesus-freak every now and then, but you always knew what their shtick was and the jokes people were going to make. Shit had gotten stale.

Well if you go to just about any popular website forum, the bias is so one sided, that you could be forgiven for thinking that a place with a wider variety of political opinions looks like a right hugbox to them.

Telling someone they're dumb for saying dumb things isn't stripping away their rights, or even the more grey discussion about removing their platform. It's just giving them a heads up that they should think harder.

It's not like people are being threadbanned for having the wrong stance or something.
