They almost hit French levels of pretension. A crime-ridden, corrupt., stinking city, full of uninspired "fine art" and overpriced boutiques where America's snobbiest and most privileged live. The only thing that makes NYC great is it attracts things that rich people buy and look at.
They are overly snooty but I will admit to having some excellent meals in NYC. The oysters in particular were the cheapest I've ever seen in the country, found a bar selling them a quarter a pop. And then you can get fantastic Italian at any random restaurant on Mulberry St, top tier dim sum in Chinatown, etc. It really is the only reason to slum it in that shit-hole, although I haven't been in many years, well before the Summer of Love.

But then you'll run into some literal faggot from Brooklyn who gets such a big ego about the cuisine available in their bug-hive and whose brain cannot comprehend getting a decent meal anywhere else and it makes you wish Manhattan would just fucking sink into the water.

Grocery stores had a variety artisan shit, a shitton of a particular cheese(goat), and a section dedicated to cheapo goyslop cheese product. Often 1:1 with American stores in terms of variety.
If it doesn't have at least two kinds of Stilton it isn't a real cheese section.

Maintenance is happening and I can't quote but @AndroidRaptor

it's a couple hundred to get across the country, more expensive than flying.

Where are you flying that it costs a couple of hundred? That's insane. Coach starts at $500 these days.

Shows how long its been since I've looked into flying anywhere

What the actual fuck

It's also great fun and I hope it doesn't die. Everyone should take a cross country trip by rail, and if you can afford it, get one of those cute little private cars. I love that shit.

High speed rail? Why would I want to zip past shit so fast I couldn't even see it?
Lol I took a train across the US when I was a young man because I'm retarded. I went from Baltimore to Seattle. Took me four days. I was next to a juggalo for like 4 states. He was nice. Kind of a degenerate though.

New Yorkers are self-assured pricks who eternally think they live in the greatest city in the world. They are worse than Texans when it comes to assuming everything related to their blighted city is the greatest thing ever. Do not regard any New Yorker's opinion as anything other than the ravings of a madman.
They may be wrong about most other things but they're right about pizza, much as Texans are right about chili.

Tbh don't you rarely leave your city?
Yep, though I'd like to visit relatives in my hatching area someday. Won't be any time soon though if even flying is 500+ bux now.

Europoors are right about most criticisms of the US, the shit they say about guns and free speech are the main things they should be mocked ruthlessly for.

I swear, parts of the Midwest are what the US could have been if we hadn't let all the undesirables in. I grew up around 1st gen Serbian and Polish families and eating there food all the time. They slowly built businesses and expanded to create some amazing food experiences in towns under 50k pop. Then you look at what the cities have become and realize there is a certain element that makes that life impossible.
You wanted Chinese food? you went to china town.
You wanted Polish? You went to the polish town.
You wanted Italian, off to the Italian... And so forth.
You could get any of the shit if you were willing to drive or travel to those areas.
The City versions are all but gone now for the most part. If you're more rural you still got areas you can go and visit to get stuff but its not what it was 30 years ago even 20.
So Null is right with some aspects.

How about fresh fish? Can the coasts at least get fresh fish?

at a minimum bleached flours, unbleached flours, wheat flours, bread flours, self rising, and a grabbag of obscure flours.
King Arthur higher gluten flour is also common in stores now. It makes great stretchy bread.

Do...do they not have farmers markets in other states?
I live in the PNW area and there's a shit ton of farmer's markets.
They're all over the US.

Yeah well like I said, one of those cute little private cars, where you can just come out to the club car for meals. And I've also spent time in coach next to a crazy Brazilian who was having moral qualms about joining what sounded like some kind of cartel. Spent a couple days talking to him. He'd apparently decided at the end he was going to try to make it legit in America. Hope he did. Whatever.

I'd definitely pick the private car thing, though, at this point in my life.

I am very sure null will have access to cheese that is almost impossible to obtain in America, and it will not be difficult for him to find it, especially with the many different regional varieties of cheeses. There's a lot of cheese in Europe that isn't in the American consciousness.
Where I live, I'll blow some dog shit euro trash country out the water. You want the finest feta? Himalayan yak cheddar? 90 year aged cheddar? Amish Swiss? Goat cheeses you can't even wrap your head around? Fresh moz that'll blow your tits off? It's all here in Wisconsin and we have the meats on top of it. The best part of it all is I fucking hate this state so God damn much for so many reasons but the meat and cheese is the best in the country, nay, the world.

Here's the train map for the US, red is trains, green is busses. Looks like it has at least a bit of train coverage in almost every state. Sure, it may take 2 weeks to cross the country, but it is there.
