Skitzocow DENelson83 - The Obsessed Canadian Sailor Moon Fan.

I get why legality is important to you in watching the new series, but why is it important in watching the old Sailor Moon?

I have been a Sailor Moon fan for a shorter time than most people, since late 2008. However, in those six years, Sailor Moon has impacted my life enormously. Back when I started watching it, I was in a very bad place regarding my mental and emotional health. Sailor Moon (along with my faith, my family, and psychiatric help) is what allowed me to crawl out of the hole I had dug myself into. It was (and still is) a source of endless optimism, hope, and happiness for me. It told me to keep believing in myself and in the future, to not give up or surrender when things got tough. Usagi in particular was someone I greatly admired; like me, she was a klutz and a crybaby and didn't seem like she was going to make it, but little by little she matured into a strong, brave warrior who never lost sight of her compassion and mercy. She (along with the other Senshi) inspired me to be a better person and to harness my inner strength. So I know exactly what you're talking about when you say that Sailor Moon is precious to you.

I never had friends to discuss SM with, either. It actually didn't bother me that much, because I've always been solitary by nature. However, a few years ago, I started a blog on Tumblr, where I would write posts on numerous topics and post the many pictures I had and people flocked to it. I started making friends immediately and now, nearly four years later, I have thousands of followers who love to read and discuss my thoughts on the series and the various analyses I do. I can't tell you how healthy and therapeutic it's been for me to socialize and bond with like-minded people who love what I love. I really want you to have that experience, too.

Tumblr's gone down the shitter, but there are still tons of blogs that are awesome and if you're savvy enough, you can craft your own little sphere that's full of cool, friendly people. I'd be more than happy to get you started. If you PM me, I can recommend a ton of Sailor Moon blogs that are owned by friends or great people in general. I also actually cofounded an amazing Sailor Moon forum and, while I'm pretty much MIA from there nowadays (through no fault of the forums, I'm just a lazy slob who really needs to get with it), it's still an amazing place full of friendly people who will be more than happy to discuss Sailor Moon with you all day long. If neither of those options are appealing, you can always PM me on here and we can totally gush about Sailor Moon for hours at a time. However, if you do decide to join a community, I recommend you take the advice of others on this thread and don't go into the whole "Viz ruined SM for me" thing right away. First impressions are everything, after all.

I hate seeing a fellow Sailor Moon fan feel isolated from the community. For better or for worse, integrating myself with the fandom was one of the best things I've done because it's gained me a ton of friends that I cherish. Imo, that's what every fan should get out of the series.

Damn... i mean in my country we dont have official releases of anything and we cant have crunchyroll for #reasons but heck is so hard to buy the blu rays/dvd?

also Sailor moon Crystal is cancer, fuck toei

Because I have a sense of loyalty to Sailor Moon, and watching it through piracy in a licensed territory would make me feel like I was throwing that loyalty away.

i buy mangas and anime with the god damn 300 dollars a year i can expend online because my government is full of morons, you dont have any excuse to not buying the blu rays/dvd

I'm not getting any of Viz's discs at this point for a myriad of reasons. I am still perceiving a great deal of disrespect for Canada coming out of Viz, for one. Also, the discs will not make me feel better at all, because Viz's spotlight has already moved on from that point in the show, thus they will do nothing to purge me of my sense of rejection.

Kay. I realize that this is really, really something you need to be talking about to a therapist, and nothing anyone says in this thread can replace that, but I have to say. You're making yourself miserable because you're craving acceptance from a corporation.

Placing so much value on acceptance by people is itself kind of iffy. Not everyone is going to like you. But being unhappy because you feel rejected by Viz is bound to make you miserable. Viz isn't a person who can love and respect you / Sailor Moon fans / Canada. You're setting yourself up to fail if you make your happiness depend on the actions of anyone else, much less a non-human entity that ultimately is responsible to the market, not to the people in its life.

As much as I love Sailor Moon, I can't stand the fanbase. I don't think I've ever seen a group of people who act more entitled than those who claim to love the show or comic. Nothing is ever good enough and they will look for any reason to not support something that's supposedly so important to them. The dub gave them new names, cut out nudity, and deleted 1 second scenes with Kanji that children wouldn't be able to read? That's like racist! Totally won't watch the dub. Pioneer released bi-lingual DVDs of the 3rd and 4th season? They're using the wrong intros and don't have the next episode previews LOL won't buy. The manga's been re-released at a time when companies are seeing if there's still a market for Sailor Moon? And they kept the characters original names! Oh wait, one of the characters said "putting on airs". That sounds weird so I'm going to dismiss the entire translation and not buy the comic.

Hey, how come Japan gets all this cool merchandise and North America doesn't? Why won't they release it here there's totally a market for it! T______T

Not yet. Other stuff keeps coming up.
You know, I hate to take a hardball stance on this, but...stop. I've seen this type of thing enough.

Go to therapy. Stop making excuses because "other stuff" will always come up, believe me. Until you accept that therapy is the important stuff that should come first, nothing is going to change.

And you need to start accepting the other avenues available to you or you're never going to move on.

This has nothing to do with money or the content of the show for me. The issue that concerns me at this point is the experience surrounding it. What I am seeking out of this whole thing is the same kind of experience that fans in the US got with Viz's Sailor Moon starting back on 5/19/14. Viz may be some kind of faceless corporation, but trust me, the people who work for it have feelings just like the fans of their offerings.

My next meeting with my psychiatrist is in a couple of weeks. I will make a point of asking him to recommend a good psychotherapist / counsellor in my area.

Well, I had quite a long discussion just now with another fan of Sailor Moon through Twitter. And one of the things that was brought up was whether or not I had started getting therapy for this depression. The truth is, I haven't. One of the things that my psychiatrist told me is that psychotherapy is not covered under MSP here in BC. Several months ago, I had an intake appointment with my local mental health unit, but that did not seem to amount to much. I will have to try that again, and see if it gets me hooked up with a psychotherapist, without the fear of having to shell out too much money for such a service. But I will say this much: I feel I have let you guys down, and I have some serious thinking to do pretty quick.

It's not about letting us down, this is something you should do for your own quality of life. I made an offer in this thread to help you find services, we're in the same area and I work in the field. The offer still stands if you need it, navigating the system can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

Honestly mental health care in this country, probably any country, it's absolute shit. I'm actually motivated to get help for my depression and have so much trouble with it still. It fucking sucks.
I am always very pleased to see people getting help. If you are trying you haven't let anyone down. You aren't letting anyone down until you stop trying.

So basically mr SM Fan your super obsessed with something to the point of killing your self over it yet dont have the balls to pirate it or buy it? You do realize how fucked up that seems right? I mean most people your age have a wife kids and a career.

You have what exactly to show for your life? Nothing just some shitty obession and a psych visit which says

"Hey world look at me! Look at what a bat shit crazy failure I am! I should have been aborted and never born!"

Sir it is my profound judgement that you and by extension your life was and is a failure. You have nothing to show for it Nothing at all.

Your just a waste of resources and oxygen not worthy of life itself.

Please Get your fucking life on track and contribute to society and stop being a pa fucking thetic failure.

Because at this rate your gonna wind up with no friends no hope, love or compassion...

wait nevermind you dont have any as it stands. Wow your life is a failure. Congrats you worthless fucking shitbag!

Frankly I don't understand how you have these feelings. I'm a huge psychopathic nut for Jurassic Park. If for whatever reason universal refused to release JW to Canada on video, yiu can bet your pretty sailor-lovin' ass I wouldn't hesitate to pirate it. I don't care about the corporation. I don't care about the feelings of the workers. They are part of a faceless mass who merely distributes.
To reinforce everyone's advice, you really oughta keep up with the psych. Additionally, try to reach out to other communities. Especially your Geocaching hobby. Do you like video games or are they not interesting to you? Why does SM give you so much enjoyment?
