To be fair, Vee has been really stuck on the sexy women angle of criticism for a while now. He's playing into a trap that makes him look like a picky retard coomer, as for the most part, Silent Hill 2's remake is far better than you would ever expect from modern day Konami, or Bloober team for that matter. At some point one must take the wins you are given, rather than nitpick about something people have likely already fixed with mods.
A bit of a tangent but it may be only me but I always found that criticism that Grummz, Vee and others anti-DEI uses of bad looking characters to be retard and it just make they to look worse and to be coomers. What made 90% of the flops of this last 2 years bad wasn't a bad looking character but a subpar, buggy game with a very shitty story.
Yeah, it's a bit obnoxious to boil it down to "hot girl make good game", when in reality there is something to be said about solid character design, even if that character is not a hot woman. Control is another game that has that similar thing to Alien Isolation. I wouldn't call either protag "ugly" but they don't fall into that coomer bait that these people seem to want.
The problem is the approach more than the ugliness.

I would argue that what Vee and the like fail to understand is what makes something woke or not is the intent, more than anything. Even if the game or story is absolute shit, or the art looks like it was made by a retarded three year old, it does not make it woke. What makes it woke is the intent of the artist, deliberately making it shit, even when unnecessary, in order to push their progressive message.
They're definately in the "trying to maintain decorum" stage, but that never lasts on the Internet —especially when one of the parties is Dev who will throw his former "friends" under the bus for good boy points.
The type of intent is key. I think what makes something woke is that there's an agressive push to include diversity, LGBT, ugly women, etc. in the game because they want to pretend they are in some way helping those people in real life by putting them in a video game. They think that the no fat black women with vitiligo in a video game=no black women with vitaligo worked on a video game.
Yeah I was going to post same also what doesnt help Vee in this case is that he represent other extreme of this debate, because he uses coomer mods.
Ugly women/blacks/gays/prog shit is a decent enough definition for usual purposes. These people aren't putting this stuff in there to hide anything, they genuinely believe it's aspirational and or how the world is/should be. The same way a normal writer might have in the past written about a young man going on adventures and becoming a hero, these people write a tranny coping and seething and standing up to white cisarchy or something.
I love how this is the third "dev picks a fight with his fans" video in the past 3 weeks.
No he's going to be grinning ear from ear, while me makes videos where he goes. "Here's why Trump's new tax policy is actually bad!" "Is Trump starting another war? It sure looks like it!"
