Well that's the thing. It was pushed off the edge, down the cliff, and into the river. The "Right" at this point is everyone else against the hyper left. That is how bad its gotten. The Left pushed everyone away that didn't strictly adhere to dogma, that didn't take the girl dick. Now its blown up, because "everyone else" as it turns out, is a lot of fucking people with a bone to pick. Dev doesn't get this. It is still 2001 to him. Bush bad, Republicans no fun bad, all of it. Well like Dev, they live in countries with no spines. Countries that have already given in. America still had some fight left. Its why Dev 'doesn't get it'. His nation has already fallen. It's not that what happened to Gonzalo Lira in Ukraine is surprising, or that it doesn't make sense.
It's that it reveals the depravity of the parties involved—not just the depravity of Ukraine, our supposed heckin' liberal-democracy-loving ally who is totally Westernized and totally just like you and me; but also the depravity of the Biden administration, since they knew about Lira's situation the whole time and could have saved him with a single phone call, but they chose not to, knowing exactly what would happen as a result.

And it's also just depressing and dismaying to see how few people in the broader public even know about this story, let alone care.

At some point the solution is "I am no longer asking". Locker room politics has its place. But, it's usually the last thing you want to resort to because it's essentially saying "I can't take you in good faith anymore. I can only recognize you as a subversive element who will use my own good nature against me to make my life worse, and I can no longer grant you the opportunity."

It marks an end to the practice of debating in good spirit, and the beginning of "That's an interesting statement. But, I have a gun, so what now smart guy?"
