Diablo 4 general - All shit will hit the fan this June

D4 is such an obvious damage control from Blizzard because of the backlash about Diablo Immortal. The very first "gameplay" trailer was just D3 with the brightness toned down. This wouldn't be an issue by itself, at least they know that people want something that's not a mobile game, but obviously they learned nothing which just makes the whole thing just all the more eye rolling. The standard pre-order is 70 fucking euros and one of the key features of the 90 euro Deluxe edition is "playing the game 4 days early". I remember when we burned Square Enix on the stake when they pulled the exact same shit with Deus Ex, but it looks like it's standard practice now.

Many people do not understand that bad games sell well all the time. They may say it, but they do not understand why a bad game can sell well.

D1 is iconic of the genre.
D2 is the masterstroke once LoD came out, captured the mainstream of gaming with that one. Its designs are a hallmark of the genre.
D3 was a shitshow in the start, but for all the hate some will heap on it (it deserves it), the expansion helped soften the blow. The main gaming scene sees this as the last of the diablo games. The remaster is just that bit of nostalgia cashin everyone does, D3 with its expansion is what they are thinking off when they think of D4.

For better or worse, current D3 has a decent sized fanbase of people who are happy to get a new game at this point. The seasons are in the double digits now and you cannot keep interest up forever.
Immortal is seen for exactly what it is, a mobile game built to extract cash. But its a phone game, so most gamers would never touch it anyway. Case and point, plenty of other companies shit out a mobile game based on a franchise that continues to do well. We all know its bollocks, so we have no reaction when it is shit like Immortal because we knew that anyway.

Diablo 4 will sell well, and it will do well, even though I suspect it will be a bad game. People decide to get a game for the most part in a series if the series has been good thus far. No one willingly buys a bad game, they hope its good as the series has been good for the most part. Even when words is out that their are serious problems, people who still want the game to be good will find people who will say its good. Anthem has plenty of content creators trying to push the idea that whilst the game is rough in areas, it will get better with time. Its was a fucking stinking shite from day 1.

Now whilst I am sure this game will sell well, if its bad, it will show up later on. A bad game will sell, but the game following a bad one will struggle. The same process that lets a bad game sell, is what stops a potential redemption arc of a game from selling, because even if its good people have that bad taste of the last one. EA made a highly profitable venture with this system, why do you think they buy up better game studios, they bank on those first games will sell well, even when they are often shit. Its hurt their brand now, but for a long time they got away with it.

In short, D4 will sell well, but if its shit, the series as a whole will likely be quietly put to sleep until enough time has passed for a stab at a revival. PoE2 or Last Epoch etc will likely be the hallmark of the genre moving on.

If Diablo 4 sells well while also being really bad - I'm not sure what Blizzard could do next. They would at that point have actually tanked all of their successful franchises.

Yeah Blizzard is an odd one in that regard. I wonder if WoW is the only thing keeping the lights on at this point, because Overwatch 2 seemed to have no buzz at all. Strange how in 20 odd years you can go from one of the biggest publishers out there with multiple massive hits, then looking like a corpse without hope.

I think they will get bought out buy some Chinese firm, and they will try to churn out the IPs. Its the situation they are in right now that I think is helping put some people off of the game. You just know they are banking on this being a cashcow, so that means aggressive ingame purchasing models. I swear Immortal was a shitshow on purpose, so they can remove many features and say "see we listened", whilst keeping plenty of other systems in place.

Fuck I am boring myself even talking about this shit, Blizz hasnt meant shit for years, I can barely muster the effort to shit on them they mean so little at this point. EA is not looking so great, and activision looked somewhat shit with the blizz connection, lot of the big names are in strange situations. Amazing to think fucking Activision was the voice of reason with Destiny as well, telling them to tone down the cash shop. Even UBIsoft was looking for equity investors, all the old names are dying out.

Hearthstone is also reportedly not doing well sales-wise, in regards to the new set that came out.

In regards to the Chinese firm buy out, didn't Blizzard and NetEase cut ties recently too?

Blizzard still sells Reforged, Overwatch 2 and keeps heroes of the storm on life support despite declining player base. Post Activision Blizzard came to define mediocrity and decline.
Diablo 4 will sell and profit that's for sure, but magic and good faith died with immortal and shit D2 remaster launch which also went to shit.

Blizzard will never recreate lightning in a bottle that was D2/LoD or classic WoW.
D4 will be just another soulless cash grab aimed for casuals.
Days of seeing best of CDs and Blizzard battle chest are long gone. Way of mobile game, shilling and lack of creativity is in.

D4 will sell with battle pass shit, but at what cost? End of franchise much like Warcraft and Starcraft.

Pretty sure the only thing keeping Blizzard floating is WoW; but that will never get the numbers it once had. Star Craft 2 is on maintenance mode, so there will be nothing new there; it's just taking up resources. Overwatch is over the hump of success, and the changes they made with Overwatch 2 is killing off people who could enjoy it; its attempt at e-sports is over too. Heroes of the Storm was never going to go anywhere; LoL and DotA has that shit on lock down, a nice attempt, but not worth the push they tried to give it, and the same goes for Hearthstone. They killed goodwill with the older autists with what they did to War Craft 3, and I know it's being played, but haven't heard anything (good or bad) about their re-release of Star Craft 1. Now they're gonna shoot themselves in the foot, three times in a row with Diablo; 1. Real Money Auction House, 2. "Don't you have phones?" 3. Seasonal Battle Passes (on top of whatever else).

Not gonna put a time frame on it... but if this continues, their days are numbered.

the same goes for Hearthstone

Blizzard has also been lucky with HS for a long time, because the two major competing card games, Magic Arena, and the DOTA 2 card game Artifact, both failed to eat into HS's player base. Magic Arena has been a disappointment for what Wizards of the Coast was expecting, and Artifact was a flat out dud.

Hearthstone started at right time, free open beta. MTG for idiots, in fact hearthstone copied mechanics from now dead tcg from 90s which was aping MTG.

I know whales that have been playing HS since closed alpha and still waste money on that pay to win shit

WoW nerds + Retard proof game + game centered on lootbox mechanics + Year 2016 = profit!

Like any franchise that is based on greed, HS wasn't meant to be.

FOMO ridden bullshit that will be D4 will sell for few years then dropped like HoTS esports teams.

Christ, even Blizzcon was in decline.
They can't police every red shirt guy or people who are there to piss off Blizzard's CCP, overlords

Who cares they're getting bought out in a few months.
Government has to approve such sale considering the money and lobbying companies Blizzard HQ moves to Beijing instead of pajeetland of Microsoft.

I am looking forward shitshow that is coming .But I will probably buy it eventually, becauce when I quit WoW I spent my WoW gold on tokens so I have money on my battlenet account . That can't be used for anything better.

Any one planning on ordering a KFC Double Down in order to get into the March 17-19 Beta?
That's hilarious.

I'm tepid about D4 and waiting to see how it is. I'm not preordering and the little interest I might have had in doing so was gone when I saw the $110 base price. I'll get it eventually if it's getting a good response because everyone is looking for an excuse to shit on it.

The MMO aspect they're adding in seems interesting since I jump on D3 for a week or two every season with a couple of mates and then put it down until the next one.

They kind of have to find new MMOlikes, now that WoW and Diablo Immortal are banned in China.

Personally I'll stay away from Blizzard shit and watch outspoken critics of Activision playing the next best thing™.

Game of "spot the flip flopper" is the game for me.

Did the minimal system requirements release yet? Can't wait for "DON'T YOU HAVE RTX 3090?" memes.

Anyways I haven't played the series since 2 and can't see how it will be good. Besides culture war "every woman is in a manface in Burqah, every guy walks shirtless", modern gaming is just too grind heavy to be enjoyable. Gaming aren't a hobby you can play 10-20 hours and move to a new experience, it's a fucking lifestyle where you need minimum of 40 hours.

but haven't heard anything (good or bad) about their re-release of Star Craft 1.

It's functional. I got hit by the bug of replaying Starcraft 1, and the re-release at 5 bucks is a good buy, I'm not entirely onboard with some design changes (I mean, how some units got new models) but it's a decent way to replay SC1. Didn't get bugs, units move as I remember from the old title, I'm having fun. It's clearly done on the cheap however.

Now, for a weird question: is Diablo 3 "fun" to play as a complete casual? I mean, I liked Diablo 1&2 mostly for atmosphere. I must have run Diablo 2 on Normal and some Nightmare dabbling with the most subpar builds possible just to have fun and enjoy the pretty models and cinematics, and I wonder if Diablo 3 reached the level where you can ignore the mess and enjoy the skeletons flying around.
